Doctor Who and Torchwood writer James Moran has penned a brand new movie. And we've got some details of it right here...
You might know the pen of James Moran from its work on the likes of Doctor Who, Torchwood and the movie Severance. You’ll soon know it, too, for the currently in post-production film, Cockneys vs Zombies. But you might just want to add another credit to the list, as another of Moran’s screenplays, Tower Block, is heading into production next week.
The film is set to star Jack O’Connell, Russell Tovey, Sheridan Smith and Ralph Brown, and it’s being directed by debutants Ronnie Thompson and James Nunn. It’ll be shooting on location in East London.
The premise of the film is centred around Tower Block 31, which is home to a brutal murder. Its residents are too scared to come forward, and the crime is never solved.

Av Pictures and Scanner-Rhodes Productions have released a new teaser trailer for upcoming British horror film Stormhouse.
Written by Jason Arnopp and directed by Dan Turner (Girl Number 9), Stormhouse stars Katherine Flynn, Martin Delaney, Frankie Fitzgerald, Andrew Hall, Grant Masters, James Capel, Munir Khairdin and Grahame Fox.
In 2002, eight months before the invasion of Iraq, the Military captured and imprisoned a supernatural entity at Stormhouse, a secret underground base. This film documents the final four days of that experiment. ‘Ghost whisperer’ Hayley Sands (Flynn) is brought to Stormhouse by the Government to make contact with the captured entity. But her arrival triggers a series of events which lead to the entity’s escape, plunging the base into a horrific nightmare.
As we reported yesterday, Stormhouse will premiere at the 65th Edinburgh International Film Festival in June, before being unleashed nationwide later in the year.

The nominees for the 2010 Streamys were announced today. The Streamys celebrate online television programming and this year they have a fantastic line up of nominees. Last year was the Streamys debut year and the winners included high profile shows such as Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and the exceptional Battlestar Galactica web series The Face of the Enemy.
This year there is even more competition with some really interesting content now being released on the web rather than through more traditional media routes. Two of my favourites from this year’s nominee list are the excellent Interview Project which is presented by davidlynch.com and the slightly flawed but thoroughly enjoyable Angel of Death, created by Ed Brubaker and starring Zoe Bell, which also received a DVD release last year.
The awards ceremony takes place on April 11th 2010 and the full list of nominees is listed below with handy links...

Within seconds of beginning my search for where I could watch this six-part UK-based web thriller, it had been compared to not one (Saw) but two (Seven) American movies and not one (24) but two (Lost) American television series. At almost the same time, Girl Number 9 was letting me know it was made specifically for the internet, and unlike anything I had seen before. Written by James Moran (Doctor Who, Torchwood,Severance) and starring Gareth David-Lloyd (Torchwood), Joe Absolom (Doc Martin, Personal Affairs), and Tracy-Ann Oberman (Doctor Who, Eastenders), the series has a lot of BBC talent to back it up—along with a huge advertising campaign. The Guardian in particular did a very interesting piece that was open-ended: it began its review at episode 1 and then added information as each subsequent episode was released. The author also encouraged its readers to join in the discussion in the comments section,...

We don't cover a lot of web series material here on Twitch because, honestly, most of them just aren't very good. But there are exceptions. And recent UK series Girl Number 9 is one of them. A serial killer thriller scripted by James Moran - who the observant among you will recognize from his work on Severance, Doctor Who and Torchwood - and starring Torchwood's Gareth David-Lloyd, it is available online now in six five minute installments and will soon be arriving on DVD as well. For today's Daily TwitPic I needed to consult an expert. My taste in entertainment ranges all over the map. I love "The Simpsons" and "The Wire." "Survivor" is a weekly stop-in for me (Amazing this season), as is "Fringe." "Star Wars" is my crack. But with all of those varied interests, I've never found the time to bring "Dr. Who" into my life, the longest-running sci-fi TV series in the world.
Luckily, MTV Splash Page editor Rick Marshall is a Whovian, the "Who" equivalent of a Trekkie (or is it Trekker?). So when I set eyes on today's TwitPic, Rick was the man I turned to for help. The salt shaker-looking thing pictured with James Moran ("Girl Number 9" writer/director) is called a Dalek. It is Not a robot. It is in fact a member of a brutal alien race which Rick likened to outer space Nazis. Still looks...

"Twilight" actress Anna Kendrick has a clever friend who's not above impersonating an "Eclipse" actor to make out with unsuspecting prey, so next time someone walks up you at a club telling you they've been filming with David Slade recently, double-check IMDb. Slade, meanwhile, announced an "official" wrap to "Eclipse" filming yesterday, following last week's tweeted wrap by Christian Serratos.

Scott Weinberg: Regarding this online thing you've co-created .... what is it?
James Moran: Oh, are we doing the IMprompterview right now? Well, Girl Number 9 is a six-part web thriller. Starting on October 30. It's about...
Scott: How many parts?
James: Six.
Scott: When's it start?
James: Septober 90th.
Scott: What's it about?
James: Following a string of murders, a man is arrested - the evidence is all circumstantial, so they need to get a confession out of him, or he could walk...
Scott: Sounds a lot like Tron.
James: ...but as soon as they start the interrogation, they get drawn into his twisted mind games, and discover that all is not as it seems. And yes, if that gets people watching, then yes, it is Exactly like Tron. Every episode has a cliffhanger, there are twists and turns every couple of minutes, and it's very dark and scary.
