- Arlo: It's sad, really, that you would let me do the work in finding it. If you think about it, we're all detectives... dropped into a puzzle of a life, looking for clues to why we're here.
- Bella Sway: When we learned about the Moon in school, it was only the science. The miracles to come. Our saviors in the sky. Earth was going to be healed, oh, yeah... Any day now.
- Paul Sarno: That day is actually here, Bella.
- Bella Sway: How can you still believe in it when things are messed up?
- Paul Sarno: I'm no different than you. You said it yourself, you fought for a cause.
- Bella Sway: That's just something I say so things make sense. There was no cause, just people in high places sending people like me off to die. That's sort of the basic setup of history.
- Arlo: Well, it opened the door to other victories. Every day is new and precious. "Savor sweet the bitter wisdom," as Mwangi wrote.
- Paul Sarno: I just see well enough not to believe in the impossible.
- Bella Sway: We're having this conversation on the Moon. What's that? Impossible things happen all the time now.
- Paul Sarno: Yeah, okay, exactly. IO... we create a tool that solves hard problems, sees things as they really are, and isn't distracted or tricked by fear or yearning.
- Bella Sway: But someone yearned to make it. How do you think the pyramids got built or the Giza Needle? Some... someone got wounded. They got their heart broken, or they wanted their daddy to love them or to... to prove somebody wrong. Or they were chasing a ghost. That's what built IO. We don't survive in spite of our wounds. We survive because of them.
- Maite Voss: [to Bella] They brought you here for a reason. This is not the end. This is the beginning. Ask yourself, are we to be remembered as the descendants of apes or the ancestors of gods?
- Maite Voss: Look, Loa, these are new.
- Loa: Is that a weed?
- Maite Voss: These are what the old pluckers called "volunteers." Gusted here by wind and rain... The bounty of chance. Weeds fight the garden. They thieve the light and water... but volunteers help the garden. They join the cause.
