It may sound like judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie favor those contestants, but how big of an advantage is the Platinum Ticket?
In Season 20 the recipients were HunterGirl, Kenedi Anderson and Jay. In this case the judges forecast one finalist in HunterGirl, who went on to become the runner-up to Noah Thompson. Later that season Jay finished in the Top 7, but was eliminated after well-received performances of “I Have Nothing” and “A Song for Mama.”

With Saturday marking the first official day of Autumn, Las Vegas’ Life is Beautiful is the last hurrah of the summer festival season.
Life Is Beautiful is unique in that it doesn’t take place in a large field or a city park, but smack dab in the middle of Vegas’ eclectic downtown, turning parking lots into disco rooms, hotels into art exhibits, and swaths of streets into stage areas. There’s neon everywhere, a giant fire-spewing metal Praying Mantis by the festival’s entrance, and fitting to the Life Is Beautiful message,...

With 42 short films across six programmes representing 23 countries, this year’s Short Cuts lineup at the Toronto International Film Festival continues its tradition of profiling a wide variety of world cinema from new and established filmmakers. And like in prior years, we were lucky enough to watch this year’s selection and report on some of the best short films playing at TIFF this year. Here are ten shorts that constitute some highlights from this year’s programme.
1001 Nights (Rea Rajčić)
In Rea Rajčić’s documentary, two octogenarian women get together every day to sit down and watch Turkish soap operas, a routine that proves to be more than just appointment viewing. Cutting between gorgeous shots of peacocks roaming the streets of their city and the two women seated in an apartment living room––sleeping, commenting, and bickering as they watch their stories––Rajčić highlights the strong connection between her subjects.

As most good finales do, the end of The Wheel of Time’s first season placed many of its characters in completely different situations than those they found themselves in throughout the earlier part of the story. Rosamund Pike, who portrays Moiraine, spoke to us about the changes in store for her character in season 2.
When an Aes Sedai is stilled, she becomes disconnected from her source of power, but it’s about more than just losing the ability to weave spells. Digital spaces are a vast and ever-growing landscape one seems to be simply flowing through. Daunting bulks of colliding information, rapid jumps from one place to the other, and the feel of inhabiting past, present, and future simultaneously create a very particular sensory experience that informs Argentine filmmaker Eduardo Williams’ latest Locarno main competition title “The Human Surge 3,” which has also just been announced as playing Toronto’s Wavelengths section.
Ever since he broke into the festival scene with 2011’s “I Could See a Puma,” and later solidified his festival standing with Golden Leopard – Filmmakers of the Present winner “The Human Surge” (2016), Eduardo Williams’ oeuvre has stood out by embracing the formal possibilities of new media, and rethinking our relationship with images through its insightful inquiries on human connectivity and digital textures. Mumbai, June 24 (Ians) As the world celebrates Pride Month in June, Sandeep Modi, the director of the soon-to-be-released ‘The Night Manager: Part 2’ and the writer of the Sushmita Sen-starrer streaming show ‘Aarya’, feels that the audience also is now more open to the idea that Lgbtqia+ characters represent the truth of our times.
The director has crafted queer characters for both ‘Aarya’ and the Indian adaptation of ‘The Night Manager’.
Talking about his thought process behind queer characters, Sandeep said: “I have had two opportunities to bring to light this paradigm shift, firstly in Aarya through the representation of Acp Khan who does not want to publicly accept his identity; and secondly, in The Night Manager, Brij Pal’s (Bj) character who is open about his sexuality and carries his identity on his sleeve. Human Resources is an adult animated series created by Jennifer Flackett, Kelly Galuska, Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll and Mark Levin.
From the “wicked” world of Big Mouth comes the second season of this very badass series that turns this (professional) mischief into something fun, at least for a few minutes. Whether one gets tired of it or not is up to the viewer.
Human Resources
Absurd and crude, great in some of its dialogues, reflective… Human Resources continues with its tone of ludicrous parody that mixes The Office with Big Mouth itself and that, yes, manages to amuse in a South Park style, with that humor that you either love or hate but that, at least, has the honesty to try, in its provocative style, many times, just for the sake of it.
And other times, perhaps not by chance, in that provocation it finds the perfect formula to tell us something totally coherent.

Thankfully puberty doesn’t last forever, but unfortunately the same has to be true of Big Mouth: The animated Netflix series, which has offered a hilarious, unsparing look at the horrors and joys (but mostly horrors) of early adolescence will end after its eighth season.
The show’s end isn’t exactly imminent, with Season Seven set to air this year, and Season Eight premiering in 2024. The stories in the final seasons will dovetail a bit with Big Mouth spin-off, Human Resources, which will end after its upcoming second season.
