- H.R.G. hosts a non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner by inviting Claire over at his apartment for dinner. But the dinner becomes more awkward and uncomfortable when Noah invites his former co-worker Lauren, while Noah's ex-wife, Sandra, also shows up with her newest beau, a younger man named Doug Douglas, whom like her also has a small dog fetish. Claire is also conflicted about where she wants to be, in which Noah invites over Gretchen to try to lift up her spirits. Meanwhile, the Petrelli family gets a surprise guest at their table when Sylar shows up having reclaimed Nathan's body and holds both Peter and Angela at his mercy. Elsewhere, Samuel continues to hold Hiro hostage as part of some grand master plan, as Lydia goes to Hiro in search of the truth about Samuel.—NBC Publicity
- "Heroes" - "Chapter Ten: Thanksgiving" - Nov. 23, 2009
We have three Thanksgiving tales tonight.
Previously on Heroes: Gretchen is going home, shes scared for her life hanging with Claire. Lauren gets Haitianed when she realizes Noah loves Sandra more than her. Rene/Haitian gives Peter the storage unit address so he (and Sathan) find Nathans real body. Sylar tries to convince Sathan to touch him (as Matt can do nothing to prevent it), but actually only does it by accident when they are interrupted. Samuel convinces Hiro to go back in time eight weeks to not save Mohinder, but save the film he destroyed in return for Charlie's whereabouts, but then won't honor his end of the deal.
There's some weird lightplay going on this episode, as at The Carnival, Samuel watches the film of his birth as Hiro comes pounding on the door, demanding Charlie. Samuel goes on about it being good it's a day of thanks, as he now knows his destiny. Hiro demands Charlie, but Samuel tasks him in Japanese, if the Samurai is feeling brave? He then points out a nearby axe and tells him to freeze time and chop him into bits. Hiro wont fall for it. "You are the devil," Hiro says in his native tongue. "I'm your savior, you just don't know it yet," Samuel replies before telling Hiro to help with the table, and smile because its Thanksgiving.
In an Arlington, VA grocery store, Noah Bennet grabs a large frozen turkey, while asking Claire over the phone when he can expect her. She's feeling lonely and a social pariah now that Gretchen's moved all the way across campus. (so she didn't go home?) Lyle cant make it from school(?), and HRG doesn't want to be alone with Sandra and her new beard--sorry, beau, Doug. Claire finally agrees, saying she wants to talk to him, anyway. HRG then pulls up another face on his SPRINT! phone: He's either got Elizabeth Rohm's home number, or its Lauren. When who should walk up at that moment? Lauren's surprised to see him, too. She's joined the CIA since PrimaTech exploded. (So she was working at Hartsdale office? That's the ONLY one of the three known offices in the US that went boom.) HRG tells her he's living over on Dupont Circle, which is apparently on the other side of town, she notes. He covers by needing some canned yams that just happened to be only sold by that store. She calls him on the stalking. He counters he's cooking for his daughter and ex-wife, which is news to Lauren. She points out his "frozen beast" of a bird wont fully thaw for a day, he'll need a cooked bird and proceeds to show him where they are. He says there will be four of them, five if she joins, as she realizes he already noticed her single turkey pot pie. He tells her, "It would be great to catch up."
Over at Peter's apartment, Nathan is sleeping off a hangover as Peter watches. A red frocked Angela comes knocking, he goes to answer, passing the chapter title written on the wall (damn taggers!). She's brought dinner and two servants to his dreary apartment, who immediately vamoose after dropping off the eats. She asks where his brother is. "Good question," he asks, which she deflects by handing him a carton of food to put in a bowl. He wants to talk, which she agrees that's what holidays are for, reminding him to stir in some milk to his carton, "that's the way your brother likes it." The two men having left, he puts the carton on the counter and tells her what he's been doing: checking out her storage unit where he saw Nathans dead body. She regards him a moment, then blames it on Rene before claiming it was a shape-shifter posing as Nathan, "the worst kind of identity theft," and they had to hide the body discreetly lest the media stumble across a dead Senators body.
Peter starts to say what Matt told them, but she cuts him off. "Officer Parkman is unbalanced. Suicidal, last I heard," she says. Peter retorts, "because Sylars in his head? Is that right? What did you do, Ma? Is my brother really dead?" Shes at a loss for words as Nathan agrees, "We'd all like to hear that one." She all but ignores the question, telling them to set the table where they will discuss everything. Nathan grabs her, demanding she answer. She tells them they will sit down and have dinner like they do every year or she will walk out the door and they will never hear from her again. He releases her and shares a look with Peter who walks off, as Angela nervously looks on. Then his face ripples slightly.
HEROES
Bennet is working the yams when there's a knock on the door. He greets Claire warmly, saying it smells good, but she has something to tell him when Lauren walks in the room. She hasn't seen Claire in ages, commenting she's gotten big. Claire pulls her dad to the side and they discuss the 'non-date', but Sandra will understand, what with bringing Doug along. A knock at the door signals the arrival of Mr. Muggles!, Sandra, and Doug, bearing wine and Dame Penelope Jean Lovegood III (Akasha), who is Muggles' new girlfriend (much like Doug is Sandys). Sandra mistakes Lauren for a domestic (What, no gong to announce "dinner is prepared!"?). "You brought a date?" Sandra inquires. "No, thats Lauren," Noah remarks, saying its time to eat.
Over at the Carnival, Hiro and Lydia set the table. When she asks if they don't have Thanksgiving in Japan (huh?), he glumly explains they have a different celebration instead. She notices he's upset and tells him he can talk to her. He'd rather not, as he's not family, but a prisoner, because Samuel broke his promise. Edgar listens in as he says he fixed the past and still doesn't have Charlie before running off. Edgar and Lydia question whats going on, as they question where Joseph is, if Hiro has fixed the past?
Lydia pulls Hiro aside, saying they need to talk. She asks what he did for Samuel, but he won't say with Charlies life at stake. She needs to change, and does so in front of an embarrassed Hiro. She explains they can help each other, explaining her power, that she "can be inside [his] soul, be as one." He thinks NakedLady! is trying to seduce him when his heart belongs to Charlie. She apologizes, she needs contact to make this work. He acknowledges "every ability has a different set of rules" before she lets him touch her back. She doesn't learn anything we don't already know, but wants to know why he wasn't tasked to save Joseph. Hiro doesn't know, and Samuel would never tell her. She begs him to take her back eight weeks when the man from the government came to the Carnival and murdered Joseph. He doesn't want to, but she convinces him she needs to know the truth. POP! They arrive Eight Weeks Ago as Mohinder leaves Joseph's trailer and learn Samuel questions his brother about what is going on. She wants to know if this is the night Joseph gets murdered? He doesn't know, but warns her its dangerous, before they step on-- shes off, trailing the brothers. "--butterfly." Hiro has no choice but to follow.
Back at Peter's apartment, he wants Angela to start spilling. She puts him off, asking Nathan to say grace. He refuses, asking what he has to be thankful for? "I'm dead. I know it, he knows it. Why don't you tell us and put us all out of our misery?" She finally relents, saying she doesn't expect them to understand or approve the decision she made, but hopes they will keep an open mind and not condemn it. She goes on to explain when Sylar was going to kill the President, they fought, she had a dream of Nathan fighting for his life, but Matt saved him. She panicked, found Matt and dragged him to the hotel, but by the time they got there-- "I was already dead," Nathan finishes. She admits she made Matt do it, asking for them to forgive her. Peter asks if the body was Nathan. "Technically, yes," she answers, but as far as the world is concerned, Nathan is still alive. Sathan protests its not him. "It's your mind, your memories," she explains, saying he is Nathan, Peters brother, her son, its been that way for months and nothing has to change. "We are still a family," she insists. Neither can believe it. She finally raises her wine glass, "To us!"
Noah Bennet proposes a toast, thanking everyone for showing up, his first host in his first apartment, noting that without Lauren, they would all be eating Japanese take out. Lauren ignores tact and asks Sandra how she and Doug met. He takes the honor, saying it was love at first sight...for Mr. Muggles and Miss Lovegood at the groomer, so he and Sandy had no choice. Claire tries to pass him a dish, but he's "legume intolerant" as Sandra asks how Noah and Lauren met? They admit they worked together at PrimaTech, but reconnected that morning in frozen foods, Lauren joking that's where she usually trolls for eligible men. Sandra wonders if it's the paper company or that "other thing" shes not supposed to know about. Lauren doesn't realize Sandra's hip to the Company, but "you can only erase a memory so many times," Sandra explains. Doug doesn't get it. Sandra asks if she's tumbling on something shes not supposed to remember, but Noah assures her she isn't. (Thanks to H-Bomb!) Changing the subject, Doug explains his family had a tradition that everyone would say what they were thankful for. Awkward looks ensue, so he begins, thanking "the two beautiful women in my life, Miss Lovegood and my beautiful Sandy." Noah takes the bait, thanking Claire for coming (but no mention of LYLE!), which Sandy agrees. Lauren is thankful for canned yams. Claire isn't so thankful, as Noah points out her roomie moved out. Doug asks why, "You're so likable." Claire retorts he doesn't know anything about her, then announces shes dropping out of school.
Back at the Carnival, Samuel is saying it will be a Thanksgiving to remember, before noticing Lydia is absent. Edgar wisely plays stupid, but her daughter Amanda says she went to find the Japanese man. Samuel is suspicious. Eight weeks ago, Lydia and Hiro have followed Samuel and Joseph into a field lit by the full moon, where Samuel is questioning everything he overheard. Joseph asks him to calm down, explaining he can control the earth, but its more than that, the cities, mountains. He has the power to kill millions. Samuel realizes he's known about his untapped potential and wants to know how he could do these things, but Joseph has already told him too much. Samuel wants the film so he can learn from it, but Joseph says he told Suresh to burn it. Samuel grows angry. Joseph says he's already made arrangements, a man from the government is coming to take Samuel in, hes already given the man a compass. Samuel feels betrayed as a rock floats up beside him. Joseph reminds him they're still brothers, and he loves him. Samuel responds by "throwing" the rock through Josephs neck, before realizing what he's done, and cradling his brother in his last moments, unaware Lydia and Hiro are watching. Samuel hears her sobbing and approaches the sound as Hiro struggles to teleport away, finally disappearing moments before they are found.
Back at the Bennet's, Claire is defending her decision, saying it just wasn't Gretchen, but Becky (Who's Becky?), and she just doesn't belong there. HRG asks what she's going to do, then. She says she'll go travel Europe, get a job, or just find somewhere she fits in and be herself. He wants to know where the $40,000 for her school is supposed to go? She doesn't know, but wants to know where it came from? He brings up what Samuel told her (Who's Samuel?), she denies it and can't lie anymore and shes "a freak, people don't like freaks!" Doug wants to interject something to a chorus of "NO!" Sandra wants everyone to take a breath, as Doug explains they've all felt like it, as he did growing up when he discovered he "had a penchant for dog breeding" do you think he had any friends? "Eh-ah." "Really?" Claire retorts, asking "do you think that this is going to blow over?" as she stabs her arm at the dinner table! Doug faints away as her parents get annoyed at her stunt, and Claire and Lauren ("aw, geez!") find it morbidly amusing as Sandy goes to help Doug.
As Hiro and Lydia return to the present day Carnival, she wants to tell the others what she saw. Hiro can only think of Charlie's safety. She tells him they have to stand up to him, some things are too important. She walks off as Samuel stumbles upon Hiro, saying he got lost. Samuel makes a now you're found joke as he leads Hiro to the table. He asks Lydia if something is going on, noticing a stalk from the field in her hair. He hands off the wine bottle, telling Edgar to "pass the cheer."
Miss Lovegood licks Doug's face on the floor, as Lauren comments, "I guess hes never seen a regen before?" She and Sandra chat about the dinner being Noah's way of letting Claire know she has a family that loves her. Sandra glances behind her to see the other two talking. HRG is showing his "wall of weird" to Claire. She thought he gave it all up? So did he, but he comes across the compass which almost got him killed, and it belongs to the strange man who showed up at her dorm, threatening her attempt at a normal life. She thinks he might be right, as when he asks why she cut herself, she rants they don't know what its like to be her, they can't possibly understand. He warns her about how dangerous these people are, they arguing about him treating her like a child. Another knock at the door interrupts them. He puts the compass down and Claire rolls her eyes while he goes to greet the new visitor: Gretchen, who apologizes for being late.
Angela wants to know, "whos ready for pie?" (Apparently, we missed the main courses here?) She reaches for a knife before Sathan covers her hand, asking if theres a problem? She doesn't see her son, because hes not her son. Peter doesn't see his brother because he's not his brother. Peter starts to protest, "Nathan--", but he replies, "Guess again." Angela realizes Sylar's in there, too, as he says, "We never should have gone to Texas, Pete." He then bursts out in electricity, Peter pulls Angela clear, covering her as Nathan falls to the floor in agony. When it stops, Peter leans forward to check on Nathan, but its Sylar who rises.
"It feels good to finally be me again," Sylar exclaims, then grabs a napkin, tucks it in his shirt and sits down. "Whats for dinner? I'm starved," he says, pulling out the chairs for Angela and Peter to sit.
Samuel slices up the pumpkin pie, noting its special because each one present had a hand in making it happen, just like they've had a hand in each others lives, a shared destiny. But tonight is a special night, as the future is here and it will be greater than Joseph could ever have imagined. But he can't tell them about it with a traitor in their midst. Amanda and rest are confused while Hiro, Lydia, and Edgar try to play it cool. Samuel claims the person who killed his brother is sitting at the table and its time they all knew the truth. Edgar speaks up, saying Hiro saw Samuel kill Joseph as Lydia hides her shock. Samuel asks Hiro if it is true, but Hiro apologizes to Edgar, he has to think about Charlie, then claims he didn't see anything. Edgar wants Hiro to tell everyone the truth, but Samuel thinks he's angry because Edgar's done something shameful, accusing him of killing Joseph and betraying them to the government. Edgar calls him a "lying bastard!" as Hiro notices a fist-sized rock float up behind Edgar and freezes time for everyone else. Edgar starts to protest, but Hiro points out the stone. He thanks Hiro, but wants to take the opportunity for revenge. Hiro says it is not the day for it, that sometimes "a hero has to run away, to live to fight another day." Edgar reluctantly agrees as Hiro promises they will defeat him. He'll hold Hiro to that promise before running off and Hiro resumes the flow of time. Everyone is startled and no one notices the rock drop. Samuel accuses, "Only the guilty turn tail and run. Edgar is gone, good riddance." Hiro gives Lydia an assuring nod.
Sylar has all but finished off Angela's pie by himself, noting, "I feel like I haven't eaten in months!" (apparently, Matt's burritos and Lynnette's Tahitian Pancakes weren't near as good as Angela's pie?) Angela and Peter are telekinetically pinned to chairs on either side of him, now. He wonders "if that's some kind of existential soul thing?" Peter questions if he has one. Sylar goads him, "C'mon, buddy! Thats all you got? No big speeches about hope? Triumph of the human spirit?" Peter wants to be released and he'll find out. Sylar finds it funny and turns to Angela, "And you? You've raised the evil incarnate bar to an entirely new level. Thank you...for giving me something to strive for," he tells her then gets up and goes in for a kiss. (Queen Cougar FTW!) He walks around the table. "All this talk of souls and spirit has my head spinning. I am not a religious man, but there is one thing I do believe in: blood. Time to carve the turkey," he says and points to Angela's head. Peter protests as she screams, but then his abilities fail him. Peter realizes Nathan is still in there, fighting to protect his family. Sylar slams him back into the wall, screaming, "Nathans dead!" Angela agrees with Peter and shouts support to her eldest. Sylar finds himself struggling for control of his body, Nathan showing thru for a moment as Angela shouts encouragement. It seems Nathan has won for the moment, asking his mother, "What have you done to me?" before running out the door. Peter starts after him and we hear a crash. Peter runs to the door, looking down the hall to see a broken window.
Back at the Bennet's, Noah hands Doug's coat to Sandra as he is sitting on the bed, Lauren watches from the kitchen. Gretchen and Claire sit at the table, eating pie(!!). HRG called Gretchen because he knew both girls were feeling low. Claire asks about her new roomie. "Fine, dull," before she admits she's bored since no one's tried to kill her for days, now. "And shes a slob." Claire says the other side of the room is still open, before apologizing. Gretchen admits of everyone she met at college, she's the only one who made sense to her. Noah's asking Lauren about Christmas? She counters with a movie, unless he wants to stalk her some more? She gives him her card to call before bidding the girls goodnight and taking off with leftovers. Sandra and the dogs (and Doug) are heading out, too. Claire apologizes for earlier, but Sandra covers, saying she told him it was a peanut. "He's a good man, but not the sharpest tack." She turns to her ex, "Not a dull moment, Noah," she chides him before they kiss goodbye. (YAY!) Claire has her coat, as Gretchen thanks him for the invite with a hug and says she'll wait in the car. He reminds Claire she has choices, which she agrees about. He asks if she's headed back to school? She obviously lies that she is as she hugs him goodbye. She stops and thanks him for inviting Gretchen, admitting it's "the dad thing to do." He replies that next Thanksgiving is at her place, which she agrees its a date before leaving.
Gretchen is waiting in her NISSAN CUBE! And asks if Claire is ready to head back. "Actually, no," Claire replies. They have a couple days before classes start again and instead of hitting Black Friday sales, she wants to find out where the compass leads, admitting she stole it from her father. "He said I had choices and I wanna know what they are, and this can lead me to them," she says. She asks if Gretchen is up for an adventure, especially since they might run into Becky, the Invisible Sorority Sista, there. Gretchen admits Becky's not one of her favorite people, but Claire is, "which way?" Claire checks the compass, which points SW, "Take a right."
Hiro walks past Samuel's trailer. "You saved Edgar, how honorable," he says. "But you betrayed me, put Charlie's life in danger." Hiro turns to him, "Your brother was right, you are powerful, but I am powerful, too." Samuel says he'll make it so he will never see her again. Hiro counters he wont, because he still needs his power and demands to know exactly when/where Charlie is or he is leaving, and Samuel will be lost. Samuel is impressed with Hiro standing up to him, but doubts Hiro thinks he would let him leave. "You don't have a choice," Hiro says. "I always have a choice," Samuel counters, motioning behind Hiro. Hiro turns and Damien (Rasta Man who tried to give Sylar back his memories) grabs Hiro's head. We see a flash of this season's memories go by. Samuel asks, "How do you feel, Hiro?"
Hiro replies in Japanese, "Must rescue Watson...Beam me up, Scotty--" POP! Surprised at his disappearance, Samuel accuses Damien, "What have you done?"
Peter tends to Angela's wound. "I'm gonna find him," he assures her. "I'm gonna bring him back, mom." She doesn't buy it. "It's over, it isn't possible, anymore," she says. Peter says one thing hes learned since this started is anything is possible. Nobody wants Sylar dead more than him, but even more than that, he wants his brother alive.
To Be Continued...
Next week: Claire gets cold feet at the Carnival entrance about Becky as Samuel comes out to greet her. Peter checks in at work before going after Sylar...with a nail gun. THUNK!
