Jason Momoa is living the dream. Those are his words, as he describes his latest project, Max’s unscripted travel series, “On the Roam,” during which he travels the country to seek out craftsmanship, art, adventure and friendship, meeting different people with an assortment of skills along the way.
“This is everything I love to do, and I wanted to make a show about all the things that I love, respect and honor,” he tells Variety of the series, which debuts on Jan. 18. “Some of these people are the people I idolize. You think of it as a travel show, but it’s really all of these people opening their homes and lives to you. The more they’re peeling back these layers and letting me in, it was just an honor to find out their paths and how they got there.

The layoffs come at a time of general turbulence in entertainment, which is still reeling from last summer’s double strikes and the pandemic that preceded it. Other media companies hit with mass layoffs just recently include Amazon, Hallmark Media, Great American Media,...

Four of the most prominent women to ever be on screen come together for a heartwarming story about the importance of friendship. ‘80 for Brady’ is inspired by a true story of a group of women over the age of eighty from Massachusetts that were the “80 for Brady Club.” Known for their love of Tom Brady, these women would get together each Sunday to watch the New England Patriots play. Scripted by the writers of ‘Booksmart,’ Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins, with an independent producer of ‘The Climb,’ Kyle Marvin making his directorial debut creates an adequate piece that does not feel the need to exceed what it is. The script, almost a long sitcom, plays out the situational humor with the day-to-day reality of their age being the stimulant. The best moments directed by Marvin are when the four actresses are able to inhabit the space available to them. The chemistry between Jane Fonda,...

There are plenty of points across the nine episodes of “Physical 100” where a contestant claims that they’re “fighting for their life.” That’s more a cliche than willful ignorance, but it does connect with the reasons why this Netflix show probably first popped on people’s radars and why it became a hit on its own merits.
Sure, a handful of moments early in the show draft a tiny bit off “Squid Game.” There’s the idea of winnowing a large group down to one winner. At one point, the contestants have to stand on numbered tiles (something that leads one of them to reference that other show directly.) Both are Korean-produced Netflix shows with nine-episode first seasons, but the two shows have far more differences than similarities.

Michael Jackson was scheduled to perform at the O2 Arena in 2009, although the event was later canceled. When Miley Cyrus headlined the same venue, she was sure to mention the “Thriller” singer in her own original song. Here’s what we know about this performance — and Cyrus’ thoughts on Jackson.

Cyrus has some impressive performances under her belt, recently hosting a New Year’s Eve Special with Dolly Parton and earning a Grammy nomination in the Best Pop Vocal Album category for Bangerz. In 2009, the singer headlined a concert at the O2 Arena in London.
This concert included songs from Cyrus’ Hannah Montana fame, like “The Climb,” “Spotlight,” and “Let’s Get Crazy.” There were some references to other artists in Cyrus’ setlist.

Scoot McNairy and Kit Harington discuss gun-running, drug-dealing and the last episode of Game of Thrones (Ok, maybe not that) in this first-look still from Blood for Dust, the action-thriller from Netflix’s Amanda Knox documentary director Rod Blackhurst.
Written by David Ebeltoft (Here Alone) from a story he co-wrote with Blackhurst, the feature is being sold at the European Film Market in Berlin by Highland Film Group.
Now in postproduction, Blood for Dust follows former friends Cliff (McNairy), a traveling salesman struggling to make a living, and Ricky (Harington), an illegal weapons dealer making serious money, who reconnect one fateful day. Hoping to make some quick cash, Cliff agrees to partner with the violent Ricky, who is expanding his business to include cross-state drug and gun deliveries for John, a mid-level American cartel boss (Josh Lucas). Reluctantly he agrees to retrofit his beat-up station wagon to carry dozens of kilos of drugs.

Jason Momoa has amassed so many fans it’s difficult to keep track of when they became supporters. Of course, many Momoa enthusiasts likely caught wind of him as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. But regardless of which project is their favorite, his fans are also obsessed with the actor’s wholesome interactions with them. Recently, one such encounter even went viral.

Game of Thrones might have put Jason Momoa on the map for mainstream audiences. But sci-fi fans had likely already discovered him as Ronon Dex on Stargate Atlantis. From 2005 to 2009, Momoa appeared in that TV series. But even before the show’s debut, he landed his first major acting role on Baywatch: Hawaii. From 1999 to 2001, he appeared with star David Hasselhoff in that Baywatch spinoff.
Since Game of Thrones, Momoa has broken into movies.

The buzz around “80 for Brady” focuses on its octogenarian stars — Sally Field, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Lily Tomlin — and Tom Brady’s legacy, both of which drove the movie to second place at the box office last weekend. The story of four Brady-obsessed friends who travel to see him play the Super Bowl is charming, bittersweet, and a smart play by Paramount to capture the demographics of older women and NFL fans alike. But its unsung heroes are two young filmmakers best known for a low-budget Cannes hit.
“80 for Brady” marks the directorial debut of Kyle Marvin, who, with Michael Angelo Covino, scripted and starred in the 2019 Cannes hit “The Climb,” which was Covino’s own directorial debut. In 2021, the pair rewrote “80 for Brady” and they now share executive producer credits.

Plot: A group of eighty-year-old women win tickets to the Super Bowl to see their favorite quarterback, Tom Brady, in action.
Review: One has to give all the gals involved in 80 for Brady credit. In recent years, all four have had tremendous success, with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin doing excellent work on the consistently watchable Grace and Frankie on Netflix. Meanwhile, Rita Moreno, at ninety-one (but looking at least fifteen years younger), is an Egot winner who was just in Spielberg’s remake of her own West Side Story, while Sally Field (the youngest of the group at 76) was recently in a terrific indie called Hello My Name is Doris. All four are still in the game and doing great work, but 80 for Brady isn’t going to be a career highlight for any of them.

There’s little logic when it comes to fandom. Some of it stems from personal taste or geographic proximity or sentimental nostalgia — or some combination of the three — and some of it is truly the stuff of magic. All of which is to say that the premise of “80 For Brady,” a new star-dense comedy that imagines four octogenarians as diehard Tom Brady fans doesn’t exactly strain plausibility. The heart wants what the heart wants, even if it’s for the Patriots to go all the way.
The titular “80 For Brady” are based on a real set of Boston-based octogenarians, brought to life in the film by Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field. Their story caught the eyes of screenwriters Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern (“Booksmart”), who recognized the inherent comedy and affection to such a relationship between women. “80 For Brady” is also the...

While the various shakeups at DC ever since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over have put numerous projects back on the shelf and an untold amount of people out of work, one man is happy to be continuing his gig at DC and Warner Bros. is Jason Momoa.
In an Instagram story, Jason Momoa said he would continue working with DC and Warner Bros. “Four years ago, I had the jeep out front… Y’all remember four years ago? I was screaming, wasn’t I?…Screaming when I left Warner Bros. Everybody ready?…Yahoo!…Four years again. It’s a mystery, baby…I’ve got some really good news. Great news with Warner Bros. Amazing. Wish I could tell you, but here it is. Peter [Safran], I love you. James [Gunn], I love you. David [Zaslav]. Okay. To the future, to the future.”

In an early episode of the new HBO Max competition show “The Climb,” a pair of contestants face down a one-on-one climb-off to determine who stays on the show. They’re just two of about a dozen different climbers vying for a chance at some cash, recognition, and a shot at a potential new career. The challenge of the week is bouldering, meaning that without a rope system to tether a climber to the rock itself, the only thing protecting a potential two-story fall is a giant cushion on the ground.
A lesser version of “The Climb” would make a grand show of forcing those two climbers to carry all the necessary pads themselves, an arbitrary punishment designed to shame the people who didn’t quite reach the same physical or metaphorical heights as their peers that week. Instead, when “The Climb” cuts to a wide shot of all the contestants,...

A sweet if toothless “Girls Trip” for the “Golden Girls” crowd, “80 for Brady” unites four Hollywood legends — “Grace and Frankie” duo Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field — as a real-life gang of octogenarian amigas who road-tripped to the 2017 Super Bowl to cheer on their favorite quarterback, Tom Brady. Selected as the opening-night cork-popper for the Palm Springs International Film Festival (whose diva-worshiping audience reps the two demographics this featherweight offering serves best: gay and gray), Kyle Marvin’s directorial debut is a pleasant enough reminder that these gals are still game for a good time.
More fuddy-duddy buddy comedy than sports film, the female-scripted laffer (co-written by Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern) celebrates the fact that football appeals to more than just bros. Never mind that its central foursome seems less interested in Brady’s form than in how well he fills out his uniform. Here,...
