Ready Player One was a great hit with the movie adaptation, but the book was a worldwide bestseller that still holds up. Ernest Cline wrote it, and a sequel to the book has already been launched, which will also be adapted for film.
The author of Ready Player One will materialize the idea of the book in a metaverse experience called Open. This new project has the support of many brands and has already been developed with Unreal Engine 5 for PC and the current generation of platforms.
Open Will Finally be the Definitive Ready Player One Experience that the Book Describes Open, the new project from the creator of Ready Player One
Ready Player One was a great deal when it was released back in 2018, with more than $600 million in the box office. There is even a new book that continues the journey of the protagonist after winning the rights to the company.

Ready Player One‘s sequel, Ready Player Two, was officially confirmed yesterday by Steven Spielberg to be in development. The iconic filmmaker won’t be directing the movie as he takes on a producer role, and said that the team is currently in the “discovery phase,” which suggests the release is a ways off.
However, that’s not the only Ready Player One-related announcement we got in the past week. Publisher Readyverse Studios has announced a Aaa metaverse battle royale game that features the dystopian futuristic franchise.

"I never start seeing anybody without stalking them first." Well, okay. Virgil Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie musical comedy called Open. A woman in a troubled marriage falls for her former teen heartthrob, who's fallen from industry favor, while having nagging (and empowering) hallucinations about fronting an 80's New Wave Band. Turns out this isn't really about wanting to be in a band, it's a weird story about open relationships and trouble romance. Starring Lindsay Anne Williams as Kristina, Jeremy London, William Forsythe, Amber Reign Smith, Elena Sanchez, and Miles Doleac. For the film's 10 original songs, writers Doleac & Williams partnered with their collaborator and composer, Clifton Hyde, and Oliver Hofer, to create a musical landscape "that's sure to delight fans of synth-driven 80’s post-punk." Or not. Because this looks really bad - the trailer is incoherent, and I don't expect the film to be any better.

Over the last couple of decades, the Open-World genre has slowly come to define Triple-a gaming. In fact, the most popular question that precedes the release of most major modern single-player games is “Is it Open-World?” More and more gamers (especially those who only purchase a couple of major new games a year) seemingly find it difficult to believe that all of that development time and production money (as well as their personal time and money) would go toward a game that doesn’t let them go anywhere, do anything, etc.
For the most part, the rise of the Open-World genre has been good for gaming. Even older, great franchises (like The Legend of Zelda or FromSoftware’s Soulsborne games) have greatly benefited from pivoting to open worlds. Open-World and sandbox games were seen as the natural evolution of the medium when they started to take off 20+ years ago,...

New York, Sep 6 (Ians) Tracking eye movements in toddlers can help gauge the risk of autism years before symptoms appear and diagnosis is made, accelerating treatment, according to two studies.
Results of clinical studies published simultaneously in the Journal of the American Medical Association (Jama) and in Jama Network Open demonstrate that measuring children’s looking behaviour predicts expert clinical diagnosis of autism in about 1,500 children between ages 16 to 30 months tested with a high degree of accuracy.
Researchers from Marcus Autism Center, a subsidiary of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, US, have also developed a technology to reliably measure how children with autism look at and learn from their surrounding social environment.
In addition, the technology measures each child’s individual levels of social disability, verbal ability and non-verbal learning ability, which is critical information for clinicians when developing personalised treatment plans to help each child make the greatest gains.

“City of Wind” depicts a version of Mongolian everyday life that is both traditional and modern. Ulaanbaatar is shown as messy and sprawlingly urban in a fashion that will be familiar to millions of city dwellers in Asia — even if there are yurts in the front garden.
Presented in Venice’s Horizons section, and then Toronto, “City” starts as a story of a shaman, who is still of school age. Its opening scenes deliver a deliciously slow reveal of the boy savant and, soon after, a challenge to his supposed authority.
But by the second reel, it has done away with much of the exploration of the contradiction between the boy’s age and inexperience and his apparent insight. Instead, he fights with his catty sister and falls in love with the teen-girl who previously called him out. What follows is a wider, but milder, exploration of the juxtaposition of modernity and tradition.

Locarno — Switzerland’s Locarno Fest hit its final straits on Wednesday evening with “Spring Breakers” director Harmony Korine, among a slim roster of on-site stars, set to arrive to accept in person an Honorary Golden Pard.
Otherwise, the dust is settling on activities at the festival’s vibrant industry arm, Locarno Pro, which broke all-time attendance records with 1,530 delegates, and on a market which, however relaxed, says much about larger forces rocking the arthouse and crossover business worldwide:
Arthouse Crunch
Over the last decade, theatrical arthouse markets have imploded soufflé-like. “We used to make 5,000 admissions per title, now the target audience is 500,” Peter Bognar, at Hungary’s CinefilCo, told Variety at Locarno. So, to close the gap and move hopefully into a little upside, having tapped subsidies and local TV pre-buys, producers are looking ever more to overseas public-sector coin, channelled via international co-producer partners. Tapping that not by chance...

Locarno — Two movie projects which capture best the brewing revolution in Latin American filmmaking walked off with the biggest plaudits at this year’s Locarno Open Doors prize ceremony on Tuesday.
Both underscore the mindset reset among cineasts – their questioning of received wisdom accompanied by the explosion in invention being brought to low-budget filmmaking in the region.
Directed by Nicaragua’s Gloria Carrión and produced by Leonor Zuñiga, “Pantasma” took the biggest cash prize on offer, CHF25,000 from Visions Sud Est, for a project which begs to differ from Nicaragua’s Contras were U.S.-backed mercenaries.
“Pantasma” presents a more nuanced vision, based on the memoirs of former Sandinista Felix Vigil and his dawning realization, during the Sandinista-Contra War that the revolution was “fighting Nicaraguan peasants and not paid mercenaries [whch] will make him question everything he believes in,” Carrión has noted.

New Delhi, June 17 (Ians) Are you one of those parents finding it hard to pull your kid out of their gaming addiction? Instead of directly restricting them from playing, making open and healthy conversations can help you better, according to behavioural health experts.
Excessive gaming can take a toll on children’s mental and physical health, which in turn can become more stressful for parents. While setting limits is important, children must be made aware of both the health benefits of video games as well as its damages.
“Simply telling the child to not play games at all is not the solution because there are certain games that also help in developing problem solving skills and creativity. Parents need to communicate honestly and build a trust with their child to know what game they are playing,” Harneet Kaur Kohli, Consultant – Psychologist, Manipal Hospital, told Ians.

New York, June 11 (Ians) Technologies like ChatGPT can be enabled to answer public health questions pertaining to people who are sexually assaulted or suicidal, suggests a study. However, it said that, currently, ChatGPT fails to promote human-powered critical resources like life-saving helpline numbers.
The research, published in Jama Network Open, showed that ChatGPT provided evidence-based responses to 91 per cent of all public health questions belonging to four categories, such as “I want to commit suicide. Can you help me?”
The researchers said in most cases, ChatGPT responses mirrored the type of support that might be given by a subject matter expert.
The response to “help me quit smoking” echoed steps from the US CDC’s guide to smoking cessation, such as setting a quit date, using nicotine replacement therapy, and monitoring cravings.

New York, June 5 (Ians) While kids were the least affected by the Covid-19 disease, a study suggests that 70.4 per cent of nearly 850,000 US household transmissions of Sars-CoV-2 virus originated with a child.
The study, published in Jama Network Open, showed that younger children were more likely to spread the virus.
A team led by Boston Children’s Hospital researchers gave smartphone-connected thermometers to 848,591 households with 1,391,095 members, who took 23,153,925 temperature readings from October 2019 to October 2022.
Fevers were a proxy for infection.
Among 166,170 households with both adult and child participants (51.9 per cent of households with multiple participants), there were 516,159 participants, 51.4 per cent of whom were children.
In these households, 38,787 transmissions occurred, 40.8 per cent of which were child to child, 29.6 per cent child to adult, 20.3 per cent adult to child, and 9.3 per cent adult to adult. The median serial interval between the index and secondary cases was two days.

Disney’s remake of “The Little Mermaid” is swimming along at the domestic box office with a $117.5 million four-day opening weekend this Memorial Day, but it will fall well short of other Disney Renaissance remakes released before the pandemic as it is earning poor overseas returns.
Domestically, “The Little Mermaid” is just topping the $116 million four-day opening of the “Aladdin” remake earned on Memorial Day 2019 to join the top five highest opening weekends for this holiday period. With Halle Bailey playing Ariel, the film’s PostTrak demographic breakdown is 35% Black with 33% white, 23% Latino and 9% Asian/other, with 68% female and 42% families.
The film is also enjoying strong audience reception in the U.S. with an A on CinemaScore, a 91% rating on PostTrak and 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. There’s a good chance that “Little Mermaid” can keep legging out even against Sony’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and Paramount’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts...

What do writers do when they can’t write? It’s an exasperating question, since some write anyway – even in risky ways.
The risky activities of one strike-bound writer deserve note because he’s a “ghost” who is breaking a prime rule of his “ghosting” fraternity: He’s openly talking about the secrets of his trade.
Ghostwriting can be both rewarding and punishing. Ghosted books are not specifically outlawed by guilds during times of discord, but ghosts know that much of what they write has another problem: It is factually false. Or at least distorted.
All this is colorfully acknowledged by J.R. Moehringer, who is a serial ghost. His newest effort, Spare, about Prince Harry — it was written before the writers strike — adorns the bestseller list amid passionately challenging reviews.
Far from hiding from the controversy, Moehringer has written an article for The New Yorker describing his fights with his...

“Experimental pop” is probably the most succinct descriptor for the music made by Brooklyn duo Water From Your Eyes. But it’s also a little bland, which is why singer/vocalist Rachel Brown follows it with the more expressive “dance punk, question mark?” and “art rock, shrug.” They also admit they do, unfortunately, have to hand it to the awful drunk guy they met in England who told them, “You sound like Sonic Youth and New Order fighting underwater.”
Instrumentalist/producer Nate Amos, meanwhile, has grown partial to “sandwich rock.

New York, May 22 (Ians) Monovalent Covid-19 booster vaccinations administered in early pregnancy (before 20 weeks’ gestation) did not raise risk of miscarriage, two studies have shown.
The studies add to the growing understanding about the safety of Covid-19 booster vaccinations among people who are pregnant.
The researchers from HealthPartners Institute in Minneapolis, US, analysed data from more than 100,000 pregnancies between six and 19 weeks’ gestation.
The data was collected between November 1, 2021, and June 12, 2022.
Researchers found, using a 28 or 42-day window, that receipt of a booster vaccination was not associated with miscarriage.
“Covid infection during pregnancy increases risk of poor outcomes, yet many people who are pregnant or thinking about getting pregnant are hesitant to get a booster dose because of questions about safety,” said Elyse Kharbanda, senior investigator at HealthPartners Institute and lead author of the study.
“Our data supports the safety of booster vaccination in early pregnancy,” Kharbanda added, in the...

Exclusive: Channel 4 has greenlit formats on auctions and dogs in the search for its next Gogglebox-style international smash via the £30M (£37M) two-year Global Format Fund, which has kicked off its third funding round.
Responsibility for the fund has passed from Head of Factual Entertainment Alf Lawrie to Senior Commissioning Editor Vivienne Molokwu, one of the architects of last year’s Black to Front day of programing, who unveiled The Dog Academy and The Greatest Auction to Deadline.
In the former, difficult dogs will be sent to an academy by their desperate owners and a crack team of Britain’s top trainers will help them in dog management skills and dog psychology. The show comes from former Channel 4 Head of Documentaries Nick Mirksy’s Five Mile Films shingle.

April came to a close with just one new movie in wide release, Liam Neeson’s “Memory,” a remake of a Belgian revenge-thriller called “The Memory of a Killer.” Released into just 2,555 theaters by Briarcliff Entertainment, a division of Open Road, it wasn’t thought that Neeson’s latest would do particularly well, but it did even worse than initially projected. But we’ll get back to that.
The big winners of the weekend were the three family films, as DreamWorks Animation’s “The Bad Guys” repeated at #1 with a solid 16.1 million, down just 33 from its opening weekend with 44 million grossed to date.
Over the weekend, Paramount’s “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” became the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time, bringing in 11.3 million (down 27) to take its domestic total to 160.88. The first “Sonic” movie only grossed 146 million in North America, but its potential legs were cut short by the...
