This episode opens a year ago as Australian tourist Priya Tsetsang is trying to sell her paintings on Venice Beach; she is approached by Nolan Kinnard, a doctor who works for the Rossum Corporation. He tells her that he believes she can go far in the art world and sets up an exhibition of her work in a gallery... unfortunately he wants her for more than her art. She refuses and the next thing we know she is in the Dollhouse as Sierra and she is frequently called to serve him. Sierra is somewhat troubled; something that shows through her painting so Echo approaches Topher to see if he can help; this leads to him discovering just how Priya came to become Sierra. Something that will cause moral dilemmas for him and Adelle.
This is one of the best episodes yet. We know the Dolls have fairly tragic backgrounds but what we learn about Sierra seems particularly tragic; largely because we see that she was a happy person until she crossed paths with a particularly unpleasant Rossum associate... events so unpleasant that even Topher of morally outraged. The story progressed well with some quite disturbing revelations before the satisfying conclusion. Dichen Lachman gets a chance to shine in this episode; this particularly shows in the scene where she meets Topher for the first time as a very troubled Priya. Fran Kranz also impresses as Topher; it was nice to get a greater insight into his character. Although only a one off guest actor Vincent Ventresca impressed as the genuinely disturbing Kinnard. Overall a top quality episode that fans of the series are sure to enjoy.
