The police find a university student, Archie Rahman, stabbed to death on the floor of his flat. Their only real clue is a book on Persian pottery that was checked out of the library by another student who claims to have been studying in the library with her friend Sally Douglas at the time the young man was killed. The police soon focus on several inconsistencies in Sally's story, and she finally admits that Archie, whom she claims she did not know, lured her to his flat and raped her. The police are skeptical, and when the media gets hold of the story, the case takes on racial overtones with the public clearly taking Sally's view of the case. It's left to James Steel and Alesha Phillips to sort out the truth.
