Idols

There was some social commentary here, some scenes were funny, the brother tension was great and they made some progress. Also yes Dean you too started the apocalypse, stop blaming Sam.

Very superstitious, writing's on the wall...

Warning: Spoilers
I'd been wondering how long it would be before we got some seriously nasty gore this season. Windshield in the face? Nasty! I liked Sam and Dean's conversation in the car on the way to their "first real case back at it together". I'm glad Sam brought up the fact that they were taking time out from something important (the apocalypse) to go investigate this case. I know certain people prefer the standalone episodes to the myth arc episodes, but it needed to be said - so I'm glad Sam said it. Dean made a good point, though, that the apocalypse will still be there when they get back (just hope Lucifer doesn't do any mass slaughter before then, I guess). I liked Dean explaining the history of the silver Porsche (ie. James Dean's car). It was pretty funny watching both boys hesitant to go near it to check the number on the engine. Especially funny was Dean being scared while "up Christine's skirt", and then Sam suddenly appearing with, "Need a flashlight?". Dean telling Sam not to speak/not even *look* at the car was also amusing (as always, Jared gave great reactions).

As funny as the "hip" museum guy was with his double-thumbs-up impression of The Fonz, it was easily outdone by Sam's attempt at it. I felt for Sam walking in on Dean's phone conversation with Bobby, and the way Dean talked to him. Yeah, Sam's got quite a lot to make up for, but after Dean's talk to him in the car...he certainly changed his tune fast. As unhappy as I was with Dean in that scene, I'll admit that he still amused me in the very next scene with his Honest Abe impersonation (complete with "funny hat"). How sad that even Hungry Hungry Gandhi (who we later learn was trying to take a bite out of Sam) knew that Sam's vulnerable spot was his throat. One of these days, the writers are going to have to address why every single evil thing the boys fight goes for Sam's throat. Seriously. Dean making fun of Sam ("Couldn'ta been a fan of someone cool? Really - Gandhi??") was amusing. Then we got some more drama between the two. Sam made some good points, and I'm glad he aired his feelings, telling Dean why he did what he did back in Season 4.

The boys questioning the two girls, and their were commenting (in between sobs), "It was horrible."/"*Way* horrible."/"I thought she'd be *nice*."/"I still can't believe it." - this is where things really got moving (and highly amusing). I couldn't help it - both the "Paris Hilton BFFs" amused the hell out of me (with their "She looked really good, though."/"Skinny!"/"Skinny and fast!"). Dean saying to Sam, "Paris Hilton isn't dead as far as we know, right?" and then Sam replying with, "Pretty sure, no." was funny too.

Paris Hilton beating up Sam and Dean, and her flick of the hair, was priceless. Her "Awesome." line was...well...how you'd expect Paris Hilton to deliver it. I liked the shot of her sitting atop the box, sharpening her nails on a knife - causing sparks in the process - and how the camera kind of slowly moved down to reveal it (nice lighting on Paris in that shot too, by the way). The music playing was good also. I appreciated the quick flash of the Pagan god's true form (neat bit of continuity with Season 3's 'A Very Supernatural Christmas'). Dean's "I guess these days no one gives a flying crap about some backwards forest god, huh?" was good, as was Paris with, "Celebrities? What have they got besides small dogs and spray-tans?". Dean one-upped her with, "I have never even seen House of Wax." (nice shout-out to the movie Jared and Paris were both in. Again, Jared's reaction to what Jensen said made it all the more funnier). Paris saying "One distant father figure coming right up." was kind of unnerving. How could you not cheer, when Sam went to town with the chopping off of Paris Hilton's head (complete with over-the-top blood splatter on his face)? That really let you know how much she'd ticked him off, by bringing John into it. Good shot of her severed head. Sam's line to Dean beat all the other ones, hands down: "Dude, you just got wailed on by Paris Hilton!".

Dean saying that Danielle (the last victim) had sworn off The Simple Life and that the Sheriff was putting out an APB on Paris Hilton were a couple more good lines, but most important was that end talk between Sam and Dean. It was about time it happened. That was a nice little moment - with Dean offering Sam the keys/letting Sam drive the Impala. I'd been worried about the lack of classic rock in this episode (after getting so many good songs in the previous episodes), and figured they must have used the money to get Paris Hilton on the show instead. It then came as a relief to hear 'Superstition' playing at the very end (too bad it couldn't have been the Stevie Wonder version, though. I prefer that one). This episode was okay, but not great. More than anything, it proved that Paris Hilton's best acting is when she's playing herself.

Best part of the episode? The 'Soon' preview of what's to come. Looks very promising.

I knew I hated wax museums for a reason!
zombiehigh183 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This might have been the first funny episode of the season but there are two major important parts in it: First, Sam chopped off Paris Hilton's head (That felt right, I wouldn't mind it, My apologies to all Paris Hilton's fans, but I don't like her at all) Second, The brother's showing a great level of maturity discussing their problems with each other without a fight.

Starting off with each other on a simple case, Sam thinks there are bigger problems ahead but Dean on the contrary thinks they still have to work on them being partners again. However, Dean is obviously acting like a dick with Sam, putting him under the microscope, dragging him around every where and asking him to do tons of research while he himself goes to have fun. (and I thought you had learned your lesson, now you are driving him away?) Sam patiently and silently taking in his attitude but when he finds that this road will lead them to a brick wall, He finally confronts his brother for the real reason he ran off with Ruby in the first place, simply because he wanted to feel strong, to be in charge, to grow up. He takes his responsibility for bringing on the apocalypse like a man not blaming anybody but himself and he admits that he hates himself for what he has done. The two still have some trust building to do yet according to Sam they can't go back to the way they were because it was wrong they now have to work on the same level. Eventually Dean realizes that Sam is right and apologizes to his brother for the way he was tightening the leash around him and admits that he too takes the blame for bringing on the apocalypse, as he himself had broken the first seal and nobody knew killing Lillith would be a bad thing. The episode ends with Dean asking Sam to drive the Impala.

Bits and pieces:

1- It was hilarious to see the boys' reactions to the goofy cop and the witnesses.

2- Dean sweet talking to the car and his freaked out attitude towards her had me laughing non stop.

3- It had been very long since we last saw Sam doing autopsy.

4- It was cool knowing that Sam was a fan of Gandhi, it fit pretty much in his character. And again with Sammy's neck!

5- OK Sam knows Spanish and seeds, he is really a geek.

6- Sam's reaction to the "House of wax" reference was great, but like Dean, I never watched it.

7- I love it that Dean still idolized his father despite John's cracked image over the years, I jumped in anticipation waiting for Jeffrey Dean Morgan's appearance. But I guess they either couldn't get him on the show or it would have been extra disturbing to see Sam chop off his dad's head even if he was a fake one.

8- "Dude, you just got whaled on by Paris Hilton."

Horror/Comedy at it's finest!
Red_Identity8 October 2009
My favorite genre within horror is comedy and horror mixed together, so I was very pleased with this episode! While we have had comedic episodes before, this one came in a campier, cheesier state. There were a lot of memorable scenes and lines, including the conversation in Spanish exchanged from Sam and a cleaning lady. Another example that i thought was clever was when Dean tells Paris Hilton that he has not seen House of Wax, and Sam makes a look (because Jared Padalecki was actually in that film with Hilton). There were many inside jokes in this episode, and I had a blast! We need episodes like these in a while, and this reminded me of great horror/comedies out there, like the recent Drag Me To Hell, and the underrated Jennifer's Body. GREAT EPISODE!

You can't tell me Paris Hilton is awesome for doing this

You can't tell me Paris Hilton is awesome for doing this. Gained a lot more respect for her after this episode. Her performance is also surprisingly good.

A Fresh Restart
claudio_carvalho16 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Sam and Dean travel to a small town to investigate the mysterious death of a man in his parked Porsche. They lean that the car is James Dean's "Little Bastard" and the victim's best friend has recorded his death. Meanwhile another man is murdered by Abraham Lincoln and they go to a wax museum. When Sam is attacked by Gandhi, they discover that idols are killing their fans.

This comic episode of Supernatural is uneven, with good and silly jokes. The participation and decapitation of Paris Hilton is hilarious, and the Sam's comment to Dean that he had been trashed by Paris Hilton made me laugh. My vote is six.

Not bad
mm-3926 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Not a bad Supernatural. This Supernatural is pure comedy. They find out that a monster which looks like celebrities kills the people who worship the celebrities image. There is many funny one liners by the characters Sam and Dean. The best part of the show is when Paris Hilton attacks Dean which gets across as funny and stupid. I believe there is a theme about stupid people who have an obsession with celebrities. These stupid people have no life and their obsessions about celebrities kill them emotionally. They are running out of ideas for episodes. This maybe the second last season of Supernatural. I bet the series will get more sillier as they try to come up with ideas. I give Fallen Idols a six out of ten.

Cool episode, with an insightful theme...
m-4782626 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It takes some time to take off, but I like it. Season 5 is clearly the series and its mythology at its peak. The storyline wasn't too convoluted and repetitive yet, so every fillers were worth your time. Fallen Idols opening scene was creepy, like every good Supernatural episodes should. And it was nice seeing Paris and Jared reunited again. And that little dig at both their movie. Hilton's parts were fun. I don't mind her, in fact I think she was smart agreeing to the part, regardless of things said about who she is and represents, in the script. And embrace it. Which goes to show her tabloid image is just that. An impression of her. But I laughed at it, especially where the fangirls told the brothers what « she » did. « She's so skinny, and fast... » That preview of next episodes, is very tantalizing, and clearly marks the beginning of what I remember being so epic about season 5.

Started great, but.....
tiriake29 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This episode started out great. It was supposed to be a hunt with learning wheels, so that they could learn how to work as a functioning team again. They went to investigate a strange death in a garage.

"Little Bastard" looked great and when Dean and Sam were checking the engine number..they were simply said just adorable. It was nice to see Paul McGillion in this episode :) Although his part was very short.

There were lots of funny jokes and situation. Like when Sam was attacked by Gandhi or when Paris Hilton was fighting with Dean.

However it didn't end great in my opinion. What possessed the writers to write such speech for Sam? I have tried so hard to find sympathy for Sam. So according to Sam (because that was what he was saying between the lines) everything is Deans fault. Sam went to Ruby, because of Dean. He drank demon blood because of Dean. Then with the same breath he says to Dean that his big brother needs to let him grow up. It was truly ridiculous. Basically Dean sacrificed himself to save Sam, he died...in the 4 months he was gone, Sam went an became demon blood addict. Part of being adult is also taking responsibility for your own actions and not blame your big brother for every single thing you do.

Will Sam ever grow up and accept the responsibility for his own actions?

Worst Episode Ever
CubsandCulture16 March 2020
I really do not understand how this clunker got made in season 5. It is probably the worst episode of the entire series and it has nothing good to say about it. The premise is silly and yet unfunny. The brotherly melodrama is forced. It's not scary. And Hilton didn't deserve to be on the show. I usually skip this during re-watches.

Not as good as others make it out to be
NatashaJAmos20152 December 2021
Why the heck is this episode rated so highly? I'm sorry but Paris Hilton cannot act and she's so cringey in this episode. It's pretty much what I call a filler episode and if you dont have time to watch every episode of the awesome season 5, then you can skip it and not miss any of the main storyline.

This is on my list of one of the worst SPN episodes of the entire series.
