Wyatt Russell is the latest name to join the cast of Lionsgate's Awol , Variety reports. He will join Max Adler, Liam Hemsworth, Chris Lowell, Teresa Palmer, Austin Stowell and Aimee Teegarden in the upcoming drama Danny Mooney, best known minor acting roles in films like Whip It and The Genesis Code , will helm the period project. Set during the Vietnam war, the story revolves around a soldier (Stowell) who goes Awol with his best friend (Hemsworth) after his girlfriend (Teegarden) leaves him. Though details on his part are currently few, Russell will play a character named Topher. Vanishing on 7th Street has been directed by Brad Anderson, from a script written by Anthony Jaswinski. It features a strong cast, including Thandie Newton (RocknRolla), Hayden Christensen (Jumper), John Leguizamo (Repo Men), Taylor Groothuis (Flipped) and Jordan Trovillion (The Genesis Code).
Synopsis: Vanishing on 7th Street focuses on a group of survivors who wake up to find their community has completely disappeared after a global blackout. They hole up in a bar to defend themselves from a dark menace.
The trailer certainly arouses a certain level of curiosity. Anderson is best known for directing episodes of TV series such as Fringe, The Wire and HBO’s upcoming Boardwalk Empire, so it’ll be interesting to see how he adapts his vision and style to suit a feature length film.
