Big Improvement! Warning: Spoilers
My wife really loves this show, and read all the books. So she really wanted to show me the series. Season 1 was a solid 7.5 or so out of 10. But this season has been pretty "alright" I guess. But this episode was pretty dang cool. The twist with finding out about Mal, and the showdowns with Krigan vs his mother was super cool.

Glad we got to see some Jesper development with the other "metal bending" chinese lady. Dude has been sort of a comedic relief this season.

The big con is that, I really don't give a crap about the Fjordian dude. I like Anna being on the team, but you can tell her boyfreind in prison is sort of an afterthought. They shouldve just left him out, or reserved a good chunk of one episode for him.

before this episode

For at least the last four or five, i couldn't wait for this season to be over...it felt repetitive and uninteresting... weak writing compared to the first season...but this episode is stronger...more depth. Maybe it's because of the backstory being offered by one of the characters...and it seems to be hinting as to how characters are connected in ways we didn't realize before...there is some REALLY good acting in this series...especially by the mother and son. Zoe Wanamaker(Baghra) and General Kirigan(Ben Barnes). Both characters are formidable but Baghra seems invincible and though she claims she's evil, her actions seem to say she's either neutral or, as any human should, learned from the errors of her ways, turning them into lessons rather than mistakes. Kirigan, for me, is just too 'typical' of a villain. Barnes acts the part well but i feel there is little to no depth to the character, which is a shame. I feel it weakens the show. I haven't read the books and maybe the way the show is done is very faithful to the books...but, were i involved in any decision making capacity, i would've given him either qualities &/or a background that might have made us a bit more sympathetic to his character...

Better, but still not at the level of season 1
dennydeeee14 June 2023
Unfortunately, season 2 has been mostly a disappointment. The debut season in comparison was really intriguing, the story felt original and not really predictable. The characters felt quite complex and well written.

In this season, however, things have changed. It felt as if the show suddenly redefined the audience to "teens only", forgetting about the "adult" public. There's really no other explanation why the story became so shallow and the characters so one dimensional.

Back to this episode - I was hoping that it would finally get the season back on its feet, given it's higher ratings. And yes - there was a surprising plot twist and the events in this episode were overall less predictable. However, at the same time even that "big reveal" felt really rushed. There was no feeling of discovery - the show runners clearly didn't trust the audience enough to spend the time on building the reveal.

All in all - as many viewers already wrote, it's a pity that the season turned out this way.. However even if it does get renewed, there's no guarantee we won't see another "season 2" in terms of the final result.

Secrets Unveiled, Sacrifices Made, and the Neshyenyer Revealed
Vaynrat22 November 2023
"Shadow and Bone" Season 2, Episode 6, delves into the profound with a stellar 10/10, unraveling a tapestry of secrets, sacrifices, and the revelation of the formidable Neshyenyer.

Determined to obliterate the Darkling, Alina, Baghra, and Mal embark on a journey to Morozova's workshop. The episode takes an intricate turn as Baghra discloses her haunting past, revealing herself as Morozova's daughter banished for a tragic accident involving her sister and a telekinetic Cut. The revelation that Baghra resurrected her sister as an Amplifier, intertwined with Merzost, adds a layer of complexity to the narrative.

Mal's discovery of his identity as the third Amplifier, descended from Baghra's sister, adds a poignant dimension. The revelation that he must sacrifice himself as the Firebird on Alina's blade to annihilate the Fold sets the stage for a heart-wrenching climax.

As Kirigan reappears, launching an attack on Alina, Baghra makes the ultimate sacrifice to save them. However, Kirigan unveils the truth about Mal's identity as the Firebird, further deepening the stakes.

Simultaneously, in Shu Han, the Crows grapple with hallucinations induced by Ohval's poisonous flowers. The episode takes a mystical turn as the flowers are neutralized with butterflies, revealing Ohval as Sankta Neyar, the Saint who forged the Neshyenyer. The Disciple's identity as her husband adds another layer of intrigue. Tolya's persuasion leads Ohval to entrust them with the Neshyenyer, setting the stage for a formidable confrontation against the Darkling.

Ni Weh Sesh is an enthralling chapter, skillfully weaving together revelations, sacrifices, and the introduction of a powerful artifact, making it a must-watch installment in the Grishaverse saga.

It's just getting silly now
akaslammin29 April 2023
Yes this show, like the books it is based on, was always a teen fiction story but it also catered for adult fans. But occasionally the characters, their motivations and their decisions and the story itself are clearly catering for and reflecting what seems a more silly, overly sentimental and naive teen consideration. But this episode and unfortunately the ones following are almost entirely silly and naive.

I really hope if they continue to make shows based in the world they focus on some of the more interesting and complex characters and communities like the Crows.

It was so silly at times there were laugh out loud moments.
