I will preface my review by saying I hate dancing. I hate people watching dancing, people dancing period, I hate doing it myself. But the dancing scenes here were certainly not as bad, and definitely not as long, as they could have been.

Nevertheless, Apple TV+ definitely has something with this show. It manages to balance the comedy and drama dynamic better than so many other shows that try it.

You are guaranteed some laughs each week and yet you almost never feel let down from a storytelling perspective either. Glad Apple took the initiative and immediately renewed this one quite early in its run.

Another pointless dance montage

Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what it is with the current trend of recent TV shows and their insistence to ham fist a dance number in. Big door prize' forgoes any plot development this episode and bores the audience with not one, but two.

Before we get there the episode starts with Father challenging church and state as he's inexplicably in the school art room to talk to another side character and deliver the philosophy exposition. Why an alcoholic priest is seemingly roaming around a middle school the viewer is at a guess.

Our main characters plot fails to gain traction instead we get to watch them have the same tired argument for the 3rd time in 3 episodes.

The philosophical insights into morpho machine are as shallow as the gondola moat they keep trying to get the viewer to notice. One l sequence blurts out all the interesting main questions in a montage format... with no acknowledgement, debate or discussion. What exactly is the point of basing the series around the consequences of knowing your potential if you refuse to address it and instead waste the time with 15 minutes of wedding drivel and dance numbers.

Big door prize started off strong but all 4 wheels are firmly detached and sliding out of control into a inevitable mess at this point.

So I'm stepping off, before I see the rest of the wasted....excuse the pun: potential. The writers could certainly of used a morpho.
