- Duncan tells Belle he is falling for her and comes on to her again but, visualizing regular client Al giving her advice, she puts him off, saying that escorts should not carry emotional baggage. So both she and Ben are amazed when Bambi and Byron announce their forthcoming marriage. Duncan persists in claiming that he can handle Belle's work if they become an item, so she finally gives in, even telling him her real name.—don @ minifie-1
- Belle goes shopping and spends 4,600 pounds. No 1 rule of being an escort: You're only allowed one lover, money.
Later, in Duncan's office, Belle tries to talk to him about the proposed dust cover design for her book, but can only flash back to them on the desk. She finally tells him she thinks it's weird that he's acting as if nothing happened. He tells her they should keep work separate. That works for about 30 seconds when she decides she has to leave.
Back home, she eagerly awaits her regular Al, because he pays well and there's no b.s. He comes in and they say a few quick hellos and get ready for it. They get down to it, freely expressing what feels good, no games being played.
After, he tells her he might be able to come around every Tuesday, which makes her happy. So does the envelope of 10 hours of pay he gives her. Then he asks if she ever thought about settling down. She tells him she can't have a boyfriend while she's doing the job, men can't handle it. Al reckons he could have, though.
Al leaves and passes Duncan on his way out. Belle buzzes him up and scrambles to throw away the sex toys and condom wrappers before he gets there.
Duncan brought her proofs of her cover. He says he knows he was an idiot earlier and asks if they can rewind. He likes her and would like to see her again. But he warns her he's a total nightmare. She says she's impossible, too.
They make up and he starts kissing her on the couch. She starts imagining Al there, haranguing her to ask Duncan why he's OK with what she does.
She asks, then says it bothers her that he's OK with it. So he says he's not. And she says it can't work then. He's confused. She tells him he should go.
Belle goes to the bank and puts her money in her security deposit box. She runs into Stephanie there, doing the same thing. Stephanie says the best thing about cash is there's no one to spend it on but herself and notes Belle has the same situation, i.e., she's alone. Belle doesn't answer.
Belle visits Ben at his bar. He socks her arm and repeats her words back to her, when she said she can't see someone while doing the job and told him he should sock her if she does.
Byron and Bambi come in all aglow and order champagne. They announce they're getting married. Belle notes they met two weeks ago when Byron booked Bambi for a shag. She says they don't know each other and asks Byron what Bambi's favorite color is. Of course Byron doesn't know. Their mood spoiled, they leave.
Belle visits Stephanie to talk about Bambi. Stephanie's unconcerned. When Belle asks, Stephanie tells her it isn't possible to see someone and do the job. Stephanie tried it once, and the woman ran off with all her money, and her car. She says the only thing you can count on is money.
In her apartment, Bambi and Byron get to know each other, quizzing each other on favorites. They learn that neither of their parents like them.
Belle busts into Duncan's office, interrupting his phone call. She apologizes for being confusing that morning and says she doesn't think he'll be able to cope. She decides it was a bad idea to come and leaves. He follows her to the elevators, where a secretary happens to place a full size cut-out of her stand-in from the book cover, which looms over their conversation.
She tries to get him to imagine how things would work, when she talks about her day and all the men she's had sex with. She tells him she had sex before he was there in the morning. Duncan says he knows. She tells him she's had sex with 1,036 men and sometimes she enjoys it. He can't compete with that.
He just wants to see where it might go. He just sees that she's smart and funny, if a bit crazy. He asks her real name. He says they should quit analyzing and go for it. No argument from her. They're on.
