While Hidetaka Miyazaki is usually known for his works in the Dark Fantasy genre, it seems like he still vividly remembers the first ever video game series he ever worked on, like it was yesterday. Moreover, he might finally be in the spirits to bring a new release to the said franchise himself one more time.

Dark Souls remains one of the most iconic franchises for FromSoftware and the whole Dark Fantasy genre, giving it the push forward and bringing in more players than ever. However, while most of the credit is delivered to Hidetaka Miyazaki, the second installment of the franchise was in reality directed by someone else.
Darks Souls 2 was not directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki
The video game series’ importance can not be stated in words. Still, it can be instead understood by realizing how it managed to build a perfect bridge for Miyazaki, allowing him to gain his much-deserved fame and leave behind a legacy that matters.

As much as the studio might try to hide the fact, all games ever released by FromSoftware, especially the ones directed by none other than Hidetaka Miyazaki himself, remain connected to each other in one or the other. And unique speculation by fans is now connecting the director’s favorite game, Bloodborne, to another one of his productions in the most bizarre way possible.

Hidetaka Miyazaki’s 2015 game, Bloodborne, is often cited as one of the best Soulslike games of all time but still, it lacked some elements that could’ve drastically improved the gaming experience. While there are a number of things players wanted to see in the game, there is one particular thing that everyone wished Bloodborne had: a map. While navigating the Gothic world of Yharnam, it would certainly be handy if players were provided with a map or a guidebook.
Bloodborne
Unfortunately, a sequel of Bloodborne isn’t something that is entirely in the hands of Hidetaka Miyazaki. In the past, he has hinted that he “sees the possibility” of adding more. At the moment, Miyazaki is more focused on giving fans the Elden Ring‘s Shadow of the Erdtree Dlc, which is coming out on June 21st, 2024.

The competition between PlayStation and Xbox has become very intense in recent years. While many of Microsoft’s recent decisions create tension on two sides, this thing frequently reveals itself on social media.

Hidetaka Miyazaki is one of the few directors who has earned a pedestal for themselves, etching their name in the history of the gaming industry forever by consistently delivering quality titles to players. However, what many fans might not know is how his first game ever does not even have any resemblance to the franchises he is known for today.

Elden Ring is the pinnacle of Soulslike games and FromSoftware is giving it the expansion it deserves through Shadow of the Erdtree. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki is excited about fleshing out the lore and the Dlc will feature new enemies that seem to be inspired by Bloodborne.
The genre was single-handedly pioneered by the developers and it would only make sense if they reflect on previous works and integrate them in their latest project. While a remaster or sequel may be unlikely, fans will be delighted to see the game be honored by this reveal.
Elden Ring Dlc Will Feature a Bloodborne Inspired Enemy
Shadow of the Erdtree will be the only expansion for Elden Ring.
Miyazaki once said that there would only be one expansion for his latest video game and good reason. The director wanted the gaming community to have a seamless experience by jumping from the base game to the expansion.

PlayStation is about to have a massive shake-up in leadership after implementing a new structure that will now have two CEOs at the helm. Former CEO Jim Ryan vacated the position earlier this year and is passing the baton to the new pair on how to evade Bloodborne fans.
The gaming community has been begging for a sequel and had no luck with Ryan during his reign but now they are optimistic that two people can potentially give what they want. Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino better come up with a better response than their predecessor.
Bloodborne Fans Will Ask the New PlayStation Heads for the Same Thing
There is hope for a Bloodborne remaster now that there are two PlayStation heads.
It is quite bizarre to believe that Ryan has done with the iconic franchise in terms of game content but the company recently announced a new batch of merchandise about the Soulslike title.

From the dark and immersive atmosphere to the challenging gameplay, Hidetaka Miyazaki gave gaming fans something to rely on. And the fact that they are still playing even after a decade of its launch is a testament to how beloved Dark Souls have become. Not just that, the series success led to the creation of a subgenre called Soulslike.
The Souls series brought the trilogy to its conclusion in 2016, but Soulslike games lived, many of which are slated to be released in the coming years. This includes video games like Black Myth: Wukong, Enotria: The Last Song, Another Crab’s Treasure, and more. Although they aren’t exactly part of the subgenre, they have elements embedded in the gameplay.

Bloodborne was a favorite amongst the fans of the Soulslike genre and the community is disappointed that PlayStation is giving them merchandise rather than a highly-requested remaster. It was a surprise for sure but not the good kind that will get the fans’ blood pumping.
The game launched exclusively on last-generation hardware and is in dire need of an upgrade. Many of the games that were released along with it received a major makeover through remasters or remakes but it seems like Sony is trolling the community and not in the fun way.
PlayStation Is Making Bloodborne Merchandise, Not a Remaster or a Sequel
Bloodborne fans are always losing and PlayStation could not care less.
Sony is more interested in selling merchandise inspired by the franchise than giving the gaming community something that could have benefitted them even more, a simple remaster or an upgraded version for current-generation machines or a PC port.

Video games become more fun when an element of curiosity is added to them. Dark Souls does the same, as it is supposed to preserve the sense of mystery. Most of them are added as Easter eggs, but some are purely dedicated to the game those levels are in.

Each one of FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki’s games is pretty hard for any gamer. And without a doubt, this difficulty is what attracts most gamers to these games. Most of the fans know this long journey started back in 2009 with a game called Demon’s Souls. A soulslike game, pure at heart, gives gamers the kind of challenge they have never experienced before.
It was not much of a success initially, but it became a cult hit eventually. Many suggested that this game never got the success it deserved. Maybe that’s why Sony gave this game another chance and tasked Bluepoint to develop a remake exclusively for the PlayStation 5 console. While it was a brilliant remake, developer Bluepoint also added a bunch of new things to it, but one of those was something called the Fractured Mode.

Japanese designer and writer Hidetaka Miyazaki has several created award-winning video games as the director of FromSoftware. His Soulslike games, in particular, are very popular among the gaming community, but almost everyone agrees that one Soulslike game was butchered due to Miyazaki’s negligence.

Miyazaki did an outstanding job setting up the Dark Souls series with 2011’s Dark Souls, but unfortunately, for the second game, Miyazaki wasn’t completely involved because he was more focused on 2015’s Bloodborne. Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki is not known for making wrong calls; over the years, he has made some very exceptional video games. From Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls to the most recent title, Elden Ring, he has made sure every person who plays this game finds it to be an unforgettable experience. And it appears he succeeded too; the game is without a doubt one of the most replayable games ever made.
Elden Ring is not the only game where he has assured such excellence. He has done this before with most, or almost every, one of his games. The best part is that DLCs for all of these titles have also remained an equally enjoyable experience. But Hidetaka Miyazaki himself suggests that one Dlc remains a reason for regret for him.

As the majority of gamers would already know, one of the most prominent features of titles produced by Hidetaka Miyazaki is how they feature an insane amount of difficulty. According to the director himself, the difficulty is put in place to help the players gain a sense of achievement when they are finally done overcoming the hardship in the level design.
Games made by Hidetaka Miyazaki are known for their insane level of difficulty
What is more intriguing about the games created by Miyazaki is that despite having a difficulty level that might be too much for the players to handle at times, they do not even feature an option to tone it down a bit. This has been something that FromSoftware has even received criticism for in the past, with the studio refusing to change its stance on it.

Elden Ring’s success in the industry was nothing short of glorious. Despite being released in 2022, the title is still very relevant in 2024 and is a testament to FromSoftware’s competence and ability to craft experiences that are second to none.
The title was designed to cater to a specific subset of gamers, but that might be about to change as rumors of Tencent reportedly releasing Elden Ring on mobile are doing the rounds on social media. Apart from being shocking for fans, this rumor, if legitimate, also goes against the studio’s philosophy of making games that aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Demon’s Souls‘ journey has been nothing short of jaw-dropping. Doomed from its inception as a failed project at FromSoftware, it was taken over by a certain enterprising developer named Hidetaka Miyazaki, and the rest is history.
The ‘Praise the Sun’ emote – the protagonist raising their arms in a gesture of reverence – is also a FromSoftware staple that’s synonymous with the Soulslike genre and its progenitor, Dark Souls. However, the origins of this gesture may come as a surprise to many.

For players who love challenges in their games, FromSoftware games have been their top picks for several years now. Especially when it comes to hitless runs, many even today consider FromSoftware games to be the pinnacle of difficult challenges in gaming.
For the uninitiated, a no-hit run in a game is when a player completes a game from start to finish without taking any hits. A loss of health or a stagger caused by an enemy or trap is considered to be a hit. Hits could include attacks from enemies that do not deal damage as well as status effects, such as poison.
Dark Souls
To complete such no-hit runs, players often indulge in quitouts, major skips, or glitches. Completing such no-hit runs in FromSoftware games is no ordinary feat. Given that the games are generally challenging and difficult, no-hit runs in these games are no cakewalk.

Hidetaka Miyazaki’s games, from Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, have rich and complex lore. In fact, difficult gameplay and complex lore have become his signature elements. Although Miyazaki has created several iconic games over the years, Elden Ring is the latest jewel of his career.
Elden Ring
Elden Ring has a vast and cryptic lore, thanks to Miyazaki’s collaboration with George R. R. Martin. While Miyazaki worked on the game’s story and characters, Martin created the overall mythology for Elden Ring. His narrative was the backstory that set the events of the game.

Hidetaka Miyazaki is one of the most creative minds in the gaming industry and his talent helped him ascend the ranks within FromSoftware and develop countless Soulslike games with Elden Ring being his latest and perhaps his best one yet.
Developing several games can be challenging but Miyazaki still finds a way to have fun by hiding easter eggs but there is one that has gone off the rails. Miyazaki had to step in and clear the air and go on record that the team is not working on a highly demanded sequel.

Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki made it clear that a Bloodborne sequel is not a priority for FromSoftware.
Miyazaki sat down for an interview while talking about Déraciné, an original horror VR game made for the PlayStation VR and spoke about how one easter egg led the gaming community into a frenzy.

As one fan theory suggests, Elden Ring and Demon’s Souls might be related.
Elden Ring is a big game, and numerous fans have come up with a bunch of theories about it over the years. A number of them turn out to be true; others prove false, but that does not discourage fans from continuing digging. 2015’s Bloodborne is often cited as one of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s best works to this date. Bloodborne was a fresh approach to the subgenre, but it carried on the Soulslike element of Miyazaki’s Dark Souls series. The game was indeed challenging like FromSoftware’s other Soulslike games but the eerie theme and atmosphere, combined with its engaging combat made it quite popular among the fans.

Just like 2018’s Déraciné, Hidetaka Miyazaki’s 2019 game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was different from other games that Miyazaki worked on with FromSoftware. However, the game is often compared to Miyazaki’s Soulsike games. The game is set in the late 1500s Sengoku-era Japan and there was a specific reason why Miyazaki chose this setting.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
In many ways, Sekiro is different from games like Elden Ring, Bloodborne, and Dark Souls. In fact, Miyazaki once pointed out this major difference between these games. Every soulslike game is in its own way different. While they might seem alike on the surface, games like Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls are different. There are a bunch of factors that make them stand apart: stories, characters, character progression, and most importantly, weapons. While these games often share weapon names, their functions are often pretty different from each other.
On the other hand, fans end up getting heavily upgraded versions of those weapons. Those weapons are often upgraded using the souls of bosses that players defeat. They can then fuse that boss’ soul to their weapon and get a more powerful one. Bloodborne does not have many weapons, nor does it have the ability to fuse weapons, yet this game has the most variety in weapons in a special way.

PlayStation has given its fans some very exciting games over the years. But their first-party studios are mostly known for developing some very story-heavy games. These titles would feature a linear progression system, which does not give fans much freedom in exploration. But the developer of Ghost of Tsushima changed this.

FromSoftware’s Soulslike games have gained a lot of popularity in the last decade and it was only possible because of one man: Hidetaka Miyazaki. In fact, his 2009 game Demon’s Souls played a key role in popularising the subgenre among gamers. However, these games have been criticized for their punishing difficulty levels.

Miyazaki once revealed that he is aware of this problem but is not frustrated by the complaints because he enjoys having those conversations. He also explained he loves to read gamers’ feedback about his games as it motivates him to make improvements in his future Soulslike games.

With Dark Souls and gems like Bloodborne, FromSoftware introduced a genre into games that was unique in a variety of aspects. Although the developer’s style may have initially felt unnecessarily difficult, the Soulsborne genre is something that’s becoming more common. Hidetaka Miyazaki’s art proved to be quite influential, as many other games, like Aggro Crab’s upcoming Soulslike Another Crab’s Treasure, have been inspired by FromSoftware.
Perhaps the most interesting bit about the Soulslike by Aggro Crab is that it’s not inspired by the Dark Souls series, as it shares more similarities to a FromSoftware game that led Miyazaki to change his approach to the development process.

As FromSoftware’s first full-fledged open-world game, Elden Ring absolutely blew players’ minds away. It offered a kind of freedom that not only innovated upon previous FromSoftware games, but also the generally stagnant formula followed by many open-world games these days.
It’s not difficult to fathom that making a world this enormous, interactive, and rife with lore wasn’t easy, and even game director Hidetaka Miyazaki admitted it in an interview with PlayStation Blog, citing two new challenges he faced while making the 2022 Game of the Year.
Balancing FromSoftware Gameplay With The Open World
Earlier FromSoftware games has constricted boss arenas, which had to be changed for Elden Ring.

Anyone who’s played FromSoftware’s challenging action-RPGs knows the importance of the equipment you carry. The Dark Souls games had rings, which gave players stat boosts and special effects.
However, the decorated studio’s 2022 masterpiece, Elden Ring, takes things in a different direction with a new item type: talismans. Why would they move away from a system that everyone was used to for several years? Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki explains the decision in an interview with Edge magazine.

Hidetaka Miyazaki acknowledged that rings were used a lot in FromSoftware’s older games, especially Dark Souls:
We explored rings as equippable items a lot in our previous games – Dark Souls, particularly – and so talismans this time allowed us to approach those ideas in a different way,...

Hidetaka Miyazaki is a very well-known figure in gaming right now. He is particularly famous for directing the insanely popular Soulslike series Dark Souls. He also directed Bloodborne, which was a PlayStation 4 exclusive horror soulslike, and Sekiro, which was more of a stealth action game than a soulslike. The best part about Hidetaka Miyazaki’s games is that they are never easy to play.
Pretty much every game that he has worked on over time has been very challenging. In fact, their recently released game, titled Elden Ring, was also pretty hard, albeit more inviting to new gamers. As he develops such a high number of hard games, one can’t help but wonder what game he loves playing the most, and the answer is pretty surprising indeed.

Hidetaka Miyazaki started the Soulslike franchise and gave fans what they had never expected they would see. A bunch of games that they can go back to again and again. It was no surprise that they were then followed by a bunch of other developers in creating similar experiences. But one game did it quite uniquely; that game was Remnant: From the Ashes.
Developed by Gunfire Games, this title had everything that Soulslike fans appreciated about their beloved genre. But they also made a number of changes to that old formula. They made it a third-person shooter. It was so successful that the developers also released a sequel, Remnant 2. Recently, this game’s makers talked about how they assured their title would remain fun to play for their fans for a long time.
