Tasteless, Offensive, and Completely Unnecessary
fleaguit25 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
First off, allow me to say that the idea seemed ridiculous from the outset. A Sci-Fi Musical? Really? But my kids love High School Musical, Twilight, and all that supernatural crap, so I bought it for them. I figured maybe it would be a low budget cult film, could be cool. Maybe some good songs. Maybe my kids would like it.

And unfortunately, they did. Now my 12 year old is walking around the house singing "Leave Your Backdoor Open," one of the numbers in the film that is clearly an ode to anal sex. I don't even want to think about having the conversation with her later in life as to why daddy showed her this film.

I would complain about the violence in this movie, but it's so poorly done it's not even worth mentioning.

The acting wasn't terrible, except for that guy who plays "Eddie." That smug jerk with his dirty mouth almost ruined the whole movie for me, I couldn't stand to watch him on screen for a moment longer.

Bottom line, stay away from this film. Half the songs are still stuck in my head, and I'm not happy about it.

This movie is equal to if not worse then Troll 2.

Warning: Spoilers
All I can say good about this movie is, the girls are cute.

The acting was horrible. The script is worse. The special effects could have been done better in the 1960's.

As a musical, I expected a lot more singing but it was not here.

As for the Sci-Fi, it made Troll 2 look intelligent. At least Troll 2 tried. The movie has killer alien plants that are only reverent at the end of the movie and very disappointing.

I sat watching, waiting for something to happen to get me interested but nothing. I would never recommend this move to anyone. I would rather shoot myself in the head than see this film again.

Worst movie ever
tlorch24 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I guess the spaceship on the cover misled me a bit.

I expected a bit more from the "aliens." There wasn't much to like about this movie if anything.

The mad scientist was awful to listen to.

The detention teacher's acting was forced.

Overall, just about all of the acting was forced.

Nothing interesting ever happened.

The worst thing was the awful sound effects added to the voices.

These made the songs pretty much unintelligible.

Otherwise, I would have probably rated this a "2." From what I could hear, the actors(?) seemed to have pretty good singing voices.

Dreadful music, dreadful production values
rhaynes197421 March 2012
This is bottom of the barrel film-making but, if nothing else at least they tried to be different. Unfortunately, it didn't work. The music is bad, the production design in shocking (most of the film looks like it was shot either against a green-screen or at someone's house) and unforgivably, the mix of the film is bad. When you're making a musical your sound has to be good guys.

This is a dreary, lackluster, badly performed, hammily acted mess, which is a shame considering I love musicals. In fairness though i did only manage to sit through about half of this film, I resembled a scene from Scanners, it was just before the moment my head was about to explode that I turned the film off.

As the other reviewer said, only a masochist would endure an entire viewing.

So very very bad...
Animus9 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Watching 'Sci-Fi High the Movie Musical'.... oooooh it's bad.... It's MST3k level bad and it desperately needs the Rifftrax treatment. The production values are bad and so are the visuals and sound. Badly lit scenes, odd camera angles, high school level acting (and trust me these actors are many years out of high school) make this a mess. Oh and then there's the plot... such as it is. It's about a high school dance... or a bet between some greaser-wanna be's, or a basketball game, or some evil force inhabiting the school, or it's about finding the right band for the dance, or it's about a girl trying to move on after a bad breakup, or it's about science gone wrong, or it's about a guy with a fear of singing who sings about it several time (????). In the end the plot doesn't really matter because the movie fails to resolve much of anything. Almost all the characters die in the end which is the highlight of the film since the character pretty much all sucked... I'm giving it 1 star on IMDB because I can't give it 0

Very Unique and Fun Experience
edmls28 January 2011
What a clever way to incorporate science fiction, music and humor into a film. Mysterious forces complicate the everyday problems of high school students. The movie is reminiscent of a post World War II 1950's American film. The music also takes you back to that time. It was excellent, unforgettable and the voices were professional. I am still singing the songs.

The actors were both humorous and effective. The movie is fast-paced with fun special effects, like the car that rides through the night sky. Watch closely for the clues that will lead you to the surprise ending. So get out the popcorn, sit back and be prepared to laugh, be a little frightened, enjoy some music and have a very unique experience.

The Best and Worst Movie of the Year
jamesmillerband13 February 2011
Sci-Fi High : The Movie Musical aptly named and paints a pretty perfect picture of what you are in for. With decent performances from an amateur no-name cast, this independent film is destined to be a cult classic... the tongue-in-cheek writing along with almost spoof-like direction are a breath of fresh air for a seemingly serious movie... shades of back to the future, hints of little shop of horrors, and heavy doses of originality make this a prime choice for pajamas, popcorn and your significant other on a quiet Sunday movie night. you may even find yourself humming some of the songs after wards. Though a bit rough around the edges this low budget production scores big with it's sense of humor, fantasy and music. - James Miller

Billy Dever is ELVIS
rbcpapc29 January 2011
I thought this movie was good. My teens loved it. Takes you back to 50's type high school Good Drama Especially the classroom " Detention scene". Billy sings a song Elvis style. I would have liked more singing, but again Im an Elvis fan Cafeteria scene is funny. Something out of animal house. I got a kick out of the guy who chases the girl who is disgusted by him Teacher on stage was funny too, wouldn't shut up like any teacher LOL. I don't know what the reviewer is talking about . I don't see any offensive vulgar or insinuations. The comments about back door? You can't say anything these days! She's probably frustrated LOL.

Elvis has NOT left the building!

Appreciate
Ebell88128 January 2011
I'm not understanding this reviews. i bought the movie as well being a sci fi freak, although not the best audio and quality it is obviously a low budget film, worked with what they can. the songs too stayed in my head, but wouldn't that prove the score to be successful? i appreciate the originality of combining the original concepts of a musical, a sci fi film, and high school angst. I personally though the characters were hysterical, especially that jock who looks like biff from Back to the Future. There were some great shots and almost had a grease-like feel to it.if you're looking for Hollywood, million dollar-budgeted movies and effects...blockbuster shouldn't be too far away.
