- Chloe O'Brian: Does anyone think this happened a little too fast and a little too easily?
- Dana Walsh: You know, Chloe, things do happen a little faster in here than what you're used to.
- Chloe O'Brian: I know. You keep reminding me. I might not be up to speed on all your software, but I know if someone doesn't want to be found, they don't leave behind code fragments that could lead to an I.P. address.
- Dana Walsh: Unless, of course, they were in a hurry and they had to improvise.
- Chloe O'Brian: Maybe, but then why would you go through all that trouble and leave a huge red flag for everyone to find?
- Brian Hastings: What is your point?
- Chloe O'Brian: It's like someone wanted us to find her. I just think we should continue to vet this until we're sure that we have the right person.
- Brian Hastings: We are vetting this, from every angle. I appreciate your concerns. We'll keep them in mind.
- Chloe O'Brian: In other words, "Shut up, Chloe".
- Dana Walsh: That's not what he said.
- Chloe O'Brian: Well, that's what I heard.
- Jack Bauer: All I'm saying is that it is possible that someone broke into the apartment and used her computer to steal the documents. All you need to do is send a couple of agents to check it out.
- Brian Hastings: I'm sorry, I just don't see it. And I can't waste valuable resources because Chloe O'Brian has a theory.
- Jack Bauer: Chloe and I have worked together for a long time. And trust me, she's someone you might want to listen to. She's very good at what she does. And if she's right, the assassin's got you looking in the wrong place, and you will get bit.
- President Allison Taylor: Mr. President, I want to thank you for wanting to continue our negotiations. I know it's a risk.
- President Omar Hassan: Madam President, you are no stranger to making personal sacrifices for your beliefs. If the price for peace is my life, so be it.
- Chloe O'Brian: Jack, you've come to me for help many times, and I've never let you down. You've asked me to do crazy things, and I've always taken your side. Please. Help me. I can't do this by myself.
- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone] Victor Aruz told me right before he died that the assassin is someone working very close to President Hassan
- Brian Hastings: Did you get a name?
- Jack Bauer: No, not before he died
- Brian Hastings: You believe him?
- Jack Bauer: Normally, I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw him but he was dying sir: he had no reason to lie
- Brian Hastings: Alright, we're on it. I need you and Cole back here to debrief
- Jack Bauer: I already gave one of your agents my statement
- Brian Hastings: [Insistently] I need you back here
- Jack Bauer: [Before hanging up] fine, we're on our way
- Farhad Hassan: [Talking privately] they've taken Meredith to CTU
- President Omar Hassan: I can't believe she's a part of this: what reason could she have to have someone kill me?
- Farhad Hassan: What reason could any American have for doing anything? Money. They found incriminating files on her computer. if you want to believe it or not, she is guilty and she's going to talk. I need to know what she's going to tell them about your "relationship." Be honest with me: tell me everything
- President Omar Hassan: It started three months ago, we met for an interview in her hotel. Dalia and I had been fighting that day
- Farhad Hassan: She used you, she "almost" cost you your life and if this affair ever becomes public, it'll destroy your creditability and everything you've worked for
- President Omar Hassan: I don't need you to tell me the consequences
- Farhad Hassan: If she does talk, you must deny it. Look, I know you think you must do the "honorable" thing and confess "the truth" but it would be a terrible mistake
- President Omar Hassan: [Ignores his advice and leaves] I need to be with my family
- Meredith Reed: [while being detained at CTU] look, I don't know who the hell you people you are but I want an attorney and I demand to know what I'm being "charged" with
- Brian Hastings: We found the files
- Meredith Reed: What files?
- Brian Hastings: On your computer in your apartment
- Meredith Reed: You searched my apartment?
- Brian Hastings: We found six documents on your laptop that were stolen from UN servers
- Meredith Reed: What "documents"?
- Brian Hastings: Relating to the security arrangements for the peace conference: your here because we know your part of a plan to assassinate President Hassan
- Meredith Reed: What?
- Brian Hastings: Please don't waste my time. The evidence against you is "clear cut"
- Meredith Reed: Listen to me, your making a mistake. If there files on my computer, someone put them there
- Jack Bauer: [Talking privately] Meredith Reed might be telling you the truth
- Brian Hastings: Is this coming from O'Brian? I told her to drop this
- Jack Bauer: Yeah, well she didn't
- Jack Bauer: [Shows him a photo] she found this: they were taken traffic cams near Ms. Reed's apartment. Check the time stamps, it shows this man entering the building through the service entrance almost five minutes before the intrusion into the UN servers: it shows him leaving the building almost immediately after
- Brian Hastings: So?
- Jack Bauer: Chloe talked to the building manager: there's no scheduled maintenance today, no packages delivered
- Brian Hastings: And this is your "evidence"? I'm looking at an apartment where dozens of people live coming and going all day long
- Jack Bauer: Look, I understand, all I'm saying is that it is possible that someone broke into the apartment and used her computer to steal the documents. All you need to do is send a couple of agents to check it out
- Brian Hastings: I'm sorry, I just don't see it. And I can't waste valuable resources because Chloe O'Brian has a theory
- Jack Bauer: Chloe and I have worked together for a long time. And trust me, she's someone you might want to listen to. She's very good at what she does. And if she's right, the assassin's got you looking in the wrong place, and you will get bit
- Brian Hastings: I have a "suspect in hand" But the file she had is "damning" enough to encrypt, that's what I'm going to focus my resources on now if you will excuse me
- Jack Bauer: [Talking privately] what's wrong?
- Kim Bauer: I spoke to Chloe: she told me what's happening
- Jack Bauer: Chloe called you?
- Kim Bauer: No, I called her because you wouldn't tell me what was going on. So I decided to find out for myself, I know about the threat to the peace conference and CTU might have the wrong suspect is what's happening
- Jack Bauer: Chloe had me make her case to the head of CTU: he wasn't convinced. He thinks his got the right person
- Kim Bauer: But what if he's wrong? And there's someone inside the UN working with this assassin?
- Jack Bauer: That's what Chloe thinks
- Kim Bauer: What do you think?
- Jack Bauer: I think it's not my problem
- Kim Bauer: [Turns around to walk away] dad
- Jack Bauer: [Turns back to face her] what?
- Kim Bauer: I don't believe you, I've never known you to walk away from something like this. if you have to stay, it's alright, you're not letting me down, I understand
- Jack Bauer: Sweetheart, I want to go with you
- Kim Bauer: I know you do and there's nothing I want more is for you to come with us. I've been waiting so long for this day: we both have but if something terrible will happen and if you could've done something to stop it, I don't think you'd be able to live with yourself
- Kim Bauer: [When he doesn't say anything] dad, it's ok, you can go
- Jack Bauer: [after thinking it over] as soon I'm finished here I will get on a plane and be in Los Angeles, I promise
- Kim Bauer: [Nods] just be careful please
- Jack Bauer: [Before hugging] come here
- Brian Hastings: I told you to leave this alone
- Jack Bauer: Chloe tracked the man in the surveillance photo to a second location: we didn't think you'd follow through with an investigation
- Brian Hastings: So you had no choice but to steal weapons from the armory?
- Jack Bauer: Would you have followed through with an investigation if I had asked?
- Brian Hastings: I'm not debating this anymore
- Jack Bauer: You shutdown a lead before you can access whether it was good or bad
- Brian Hastings: [to Cole, referring to Jack] take him to detention
- Brian Hastings: [Raises his voice] take him
- Cole Ortiz: [to Jack] let's go
- Jack Bauer: [to Hastings] I'm sure President Taylor will be very interested to find out what happened to my informant when I tried to deliver him to you
- Brian Hastings: Excuse me?
- Jack Bauer: Cole tried to secure that landing zone with more men but instead you sent a drone which failed to protect my informant and two of your men. Cole hasn't said anything about it and neither will I as long as you let me pursue this
- Brian Hastings: So now you're blackmailing me?
- Jack Bauer: You "forced my hand", now I'm "forcing yours"
- Brian Hastings: You don't want to be doing this Bauer
- Jack Bauer: No, I don't, I want to be on a plane to Los Angeles with my family but you're not giving me another choice
- Brian Hastings: You want to waste time chasing ghosts? Knock yourself out. I've got to stop an assassination plot
- Brian Hastings: [to Cole, referring to Jack] give him the bag
- Jack Bauer: [to Hastings] I need Chloe to run Ops
- Brian Hastings: Fine, she's all yours
- Rob Weiss: [Over the phone] did you bring in Victor Aruz?
- Brian Hastings: I'm afraid not sir, it was an ambush and Aruz was killed along with two of our men
- Rob Weiss: Damn it
- Brian Hastings: Before Aruz died, he "shared" some "troubling information." He claimed that someone close to Hassan has been conspiring with the assassin. Now we don't have a name yet but we are pursuing a "lead"
- Rob Weiss: Tell me how and I had better be impressed
- Brian Hastings: We're tracing what "might" be an unauthorized entry into one of the UN servers
- Rob Weiss: And you think this is the person we're looking for?
- Brian Hastings: We're "optimistic"
- Rob Weiss: Yeah, you better hope that "optimism" translates into results
- Brian Hastings: Sir, until we locate the insider, you might want consider "locking down" President Hassan and postponing this conference
- Rob Weiss: That is not an option: we are close to signing one of the most important treaties in the history of this country. You were put in charge of CTU because you said you could get the job done "lean, mean, and fast", that's what you said. President Taylor expects you to deliver on those words
- Brian Hastings: Sir...
- Rob Weiss: [Before hanging up] I'll take this to the President, keep me posted
- Meredith Reed: [Over the phone, referring his performance during the press conference] you were terrific
- President Omar Hassan: It's not about me: it's about the message that's important, I just hope no one could see how nervous I was
- Meredith Reed: You hid it well
- President Omar Hassan: Are you here?
- Meredith Reed: Yes but I'm on my way out: do you still have time to see me?
- President Omar Hassan: I've been looking forward to it all day
- Meredith Reed: When?
- President Omar Hassan: What're you saying?
- Meredith Reed: When can I see you?
- President Omar Hassan: I've got half an hour before the next session begins: meet me now and we'll go up to my private office together. I'll tell my staff that you requested an interview
- Meredith Reed: Perfect, I'll be right there
- Jack Bauer: [Debriefing him in her office] I'm sorry but we've got to do this kind of quick
- Chloe O'Brian: I guess you heard about the reporter they arrested?
- Jack Bauer: Yeah
- Chloe O'Brian: Well, I think they might have the wrong person: Meredith Reed could be innocent
- Jack Bauer: Hastings said they found evidence on her computer
- Chloe O'Brian: I know but I think those files may have been "planted"
- Chloe O'Brian: [Shows him photos] look, I've been scanning through traffic cam footage from outside Meredith Reed's apartment building. Five minutes before the intrusion into the UN server, this man was going into the service entrance of the building, ten minutes later, he left. What if he went through her apartment and used her laptop to break into the servers?
- Jack Bauer: Sounds a little "thin"
- Jack Bauer: [Confused] why are you showing me this? Why don't you just take it to Hastings?
- Chloe O'Brian: Hastings doesn't think know what I'm doing: he won't listen to me. He "might" listen to you
- Jack Bauer: I'm here for my debrief, Kim's on her way, I'm leaving on a plane to Los Angeles with my family in an hour
- Chloe O'Brian: I'm just asking you to talk to him: it'll take ten minutes. If the assassin framed reed to create a diversion that means we have the wrong person in custody that he still has someone inside Hassan's delegation
- Jack Bauer: I'm sorry, it's not my problem. Please let's just continue with the debrief
- President Allison Taylor: [after shaking hands] Mr. President, I want to thank you for wanting to continue our negotiations. I know it's a risk
- President Omar Hassan: Madam President, you are no stranger to making personal sacrifices for your beliefs. If the price for peace is my life, so be it
- President Allison Taylor: We are doing everything in our power to make sure that doesn't happen: we've "tightened" security measures here and CTU's top priority is to find the people who are targeting you
- President Omar Hassan: I appreciate that, the woman you've taken into custody...
- President Allison Taylor: [Correcting him] the "reporter" Meredith Reed
- President Omar Hassan: Yes, is CTU certain she's a part of this plot?
- President Allison Taylor: From what I understand the evidence against her is quite incriminating
- President Omar Hassan: Have they found her "reasons?"
- President Allison Taylor: Ms. Reed is being questioned as we speak. I'll make sure any information we get will be shared with your people as soon as possible
- Brian Hastings: [Questioning her at CTU] I think we need a "fresh start." Now you "claim" those files were "planted" on your computer: fine. I'm willing to give you the "benefit of the doubt" but you need to meet me "half way", talk to me. Help me understand your side of "the story", fair enough?
- Brian Hastings: [after she nods] so when was the first time you met President Hassan?
- Meredith Reed: About six months ago at a conference of oil ministers. I requested an interview and he agreed: we met in his hotel lobby twice, it lasted an hour and a half the most
- Brian Hastings: When you were in Bédar profiling President Hassan, were you ever "approached" by anyone hostile to his regime?
- Meredith Reed: No
- Brian Hastings: No one paid you?
- Meredith Reed: No
- Brian Hastings: Pressured you into cooperating?
- Meredith Reed: I said no
- Brian Hastings: So all you did was interview President Hassan? That's it?
- Meredith Reed: Yes, that's all
- Brian Hastings: [after being informed she's not telling the truth through biometrics] you're lying
- Meredith Reed: I'm not
- Brian Hastings: [Raises his voice] tell me what really happened in Bédar? How is it connected to the assassination plot?
- Meredith Reed: I don't have anything to do with any plan to assassinate President Hassan my God, why would I?
- Brian Hastings: Your reasons irrelevant: all I care about is stopping the assassin
- Meredith Reed: So do I, so if someone really is trying to kill Hassan you need to stop wasting time on me and find them
