So the theory about SB being Homelander's father turns out to be true, and it might be a giant cliché and overused trope, but I don't care because it works so well for this story and makes the plot and character relationships way more complex and personal.
First of all, just as I thought, they couldn't kill A-Train, which I wanted them to because I thought his story is over and it's cheesy to keep showing us his heart problem and then not kill him. But him having Blue Hawk's heart in his chest now makes much more sense and it's even better than I thought and I would've never thought of it. So no problem for me since it works so well. Really good writers here. Although I don't know how BH's heart was even intact, I assumed all his internal organs either exploded or scraped across the asphalt, but that's a negligible nitpick.
We also have lots of flashbacks for Butcher and Black Noir, but they're not boring or your typical flashback scenes that hold back the actual plot, they are done beautifully in a really creative and interesting way and I have no problems with them. Even though Black Noir's was kinda too on the nose and obvious that it was more of an exposition for the audience, it was still done in a creative way and I have no problem with this kind of exposition, especially when they are "show And tell" and not just tell.
We finally get to see where Queen Maeve is held up, and my theory about Black Noir going to rescue her wasn't correct. And Homelander threatens Maeve with something worse than death.
Mindstorm was a really great character and seemed to have one of the strongest powers in this world, but he still couldn't last 1 second against Soldier Boy.
We also get our seasonal dose of Homelander providing and drinking milk scene.
Mother's Milk's fight with his ex's husband was obviously bound to happen.
We also have the revelation about Temp V but Butcher, even after all the moving and revealing flashbacks, still doesn't tell Hughie about the danger they're in by taking Temp V, and it looks like he's stuck in the cycle of self-destruction and destroying everyone around him if it means he gets closer to his goal which is revenge. Seems like no amount of reliving his past and what he did to Lenny can change his mind and he still has this "whatever it takes" mindset.
Kimiko also gets her powers back, and it makes sense because it was the only way they could've gone with her story line. It was either this or Frenchie and her running away to Marseille. I also hope Frenchie also takes V (I don't remember if V on adults works or nah) and he gets powers too, because it feels like he's been sidelined the whole show, it would be cool to see him have it too, but I guess that could go against the very reason Kimiko wanted to have her powers back.
Through the presentation of those cartoon animals, we get to see what actually happened in Nicaragua and also Noir's past with Soldier Boy and we see that Soldier Boy ain't no saint.
And now that Soldier Boy's already brittle "relationship" with Butcher and Hughie is shattered completely, and him finding out Homelander is his son, it's gonna make an already complicated situation 10 times more complicated and The Boys might need to go against Soldier Boys too in addition to Homelander and that's gonna make things harder for them. And they might even team up with Black Noir and Maeve but I don't think Black Noir can stand against Soldier Boy since SB already messed him up once and turned him into this.
Anyway, this was a really well-done episode that revealed so much more and the plot got more complex, and with Soldier Boy probably wanting to be his son and Butcher and Hughie on the verge of frying their brains, it makes me more excited for the finale and next seasons to see how the writers are gonna deal with them.
