‘Kingdom’ Actor Jonathan Tucker Helped Neighbors to Safety During Home Intruder Scare in Los Angeles
Jonathan Tucker sprang into action during a home intruder scare in his Los Angeles neighborhood, the actor’s representative confirmed to Variety. TMZ first reported the story. The incident occurred Sunday evening in L.A.’s Hancock Park neighborhood.
The “Kingdom” actor called police after seeing a suspicious man walking around his block and banging on front doors. When he later saw that one of his neighbors’ front doors was wide open, he ran over to the home to check if the neighbors were in danger.
A mother and her daughter, plus another child, were inside the home at the time and Tucker led them to safety outside until police arrived on the scene. According to TMZ, law enforcement sources placed the disruptor in a 5150 hold, meaning the intruder was experiencing a mental health incident.

Exclusive: Kadeem Hardison has been set as a series regular in Ed Brubaker’s Prime Video graphic novel series Criminal. He joins the previously announced cast Adria Arjona and Richard Jenkins.
Criminal is an interlocking universe of crime stories based on the multi-Eisner Award-winning graphic novel series created by Brubaker and Sean Phillips.
Hardison will portray the character Gnarly, an old friend of Leo and Ivan. Gnarly was his nickname as a boxer back in the 1970s and it’s all anyone calls him. He walks with a limp, an old one. Gnarly’s a local legend, and he can go from warm to fierce in a heartbeat. He commands respect, partly because he can inflict massive physical damage, even at his advanced age — and partly because he has the authority and gravitas to stop other men in their tracks.

Roger Corman, who died Saturday at 98, was famously involved with many of the greats of filmmaking at the start of their careers. In the case of Ron Howard, he helped the young actor transition from being a child star into a versatile director, giving him his first directing job with the action comedy “Grand Theft Auto” in 1977.
Howard noted that Corman was also known for giving women more opportunities than they typically had in the film industry at that time, including Penelope Spheeris and Gale Ann Hurd.
Howard paid tribute to Corman Sunday morning in a heartfelt message, writing, “Roger not only mentored a couple of generations of high profile filmmakers, but he also opened doors to many on the production side who were struggling to find career paths in the industry. When I was working for Roger, he had far more women in positions of authority throughout his company...

If you're like us, the broadcast shows are not hitting their marks.
They're beyond formulaic (everyone's out to tear down Firehouse 51 on Chicago Fire? Give us a break already) and have lost their pizazz.
Watching TV barely cracks our faces with a smile.
But the streamer that is part of our return to classic TV (Dark Shadows? Check! Family? Check! Columbo? Check!), Tubi, has a new original series on the way starring Gilmore Girls and Parenthood star Lauren Graham.
Neither show is on Tubi, so why not create one to bring the talented actress into their world?
That's what Tubi is doing as the Fox Corporation's ad-supported VOD service announced today that it has greenlit the new original comedy series The Z Suite starring Graham.

For Jenny Slate, there’s much to love about working as a stand-up comic today.
“We have the opportunity to be really thoughtful about saying something deeply important about our own personal development, about the world at large, about current events, about censorship in art, about what is the current vernacular in art,” the comedian says.
Certainly, she acknowledges, “cancel culture is frightening,” and it’s always “scary to be a person with a microphone, [but] it’s also a great privilege. If you’re a performer and you feel that you’re talented, if you pair that talent with thoughtfulness, I think [it’s a] great opportunity to feel fully expressed.”
On Monday night, Slate was at Deadline’s Studio at the Prime Experience to promote her latest special Seasoned Professional, which debuted on Prime Video on February 23. Also appearing for solo interviews were comedians Tig Notaro and Jim Gaffigan, who while discussing...

Melanie Lynskey is praising husband Jason Ritter for putting his own acting career on hold for her success.
“He’s the most supportive person in the world,” the Yellowjackets star told People magazine about Ritter, whom she began dating in 2013 and married in 2020. “The last few years we’ve had this role of like, whoever’s job makes the most sense, whether it’s the most exciting career wise or it’s more money, we would prioritize the one that was going to help move the person’s career forward.”
Lynskey added that her success comes at the expense of Ritter’s work, as he has been “getting offered stuff all the time” but has passed on roles in support of his wife. “It’s like genuinely sacrificing,” she said.
The actress also credited the Parenthood alum for encouraging her to take on her memorable role in the first season of The Last of Us.

Tobey Maguire, in one way or another, revolutionized the very essence of Marvel, popularizing it among audiences when DC characters like Superman and Batman were dominating pop culture. Spider-Man trilogy has to be the best works of the actor, but he almost didn’t become an actor.

At 78 years old, Martin was the biggest comedian of all time for some, a movie star for others, and one of the old guys from Only Murders in the Building for the rest.

There is a good chance Ace Ventura: Pet Detective will come up in conversation if you ask someone who is strolling their dog on the street about their favorite Jim Carrey flick. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective earned mixed reviews upon its initial release, so it is almost funny to see how beloved it has become among fans despite this fact. Nevertheless, the film remains a hilarious detective satire.
Reviewers and viewers alike had a major effect because of Carrey’s performance. Not only did it initiate the actor’s cinematic career, but it also initiated a franchise. Having said that, what if we told you that Carrey was not the first choice to play such an iconic character?
Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
The original contender for the role is also a legendary figure in the comedy film industry, but his comedic sensibility is nothing like Carrey’s outrageous and wild improvisation.

As the social and political turmoil of 1960s America spilled into the 1970s, network television executives and producers knew they could no longer ignore the thorny issues being argued over kitchen tables and at work/school. The Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement, the Equal Rights Amendment, etc. were driving a wedge between families and neighbors. So when Norman Lear trotted out the unrepentant bigot Archie Bunker on "All in the Family" in 1971, many people in the country felt seen. And while they might not agree on the hot-button topics explored on this show, they could at least laugh through their many disagreements.
There came a point, however (somewhere between President Richard M. Nixon's resignation and the end of the Vietnam War), where television viewers grew weary of all these socially conscious sitcoms. Yes, they were still watching them in huge numbers, but they needed a break from the nonstop tumult of their lives.

Steve Martin is a comedy legend, plain and simple. And he deserves your attention. Long before he became the star of beloved family comedies like "Parenthood" and "Father of the Bride," he was a massive stand-up comedian, selling out shows, firing off hilarious albums, and cracking up the likes of Johnny Carson on "The Tonight Show." He even made such big waves at "Saturday Night Live" that many people mistakenly believe he was once a full-fledged cast member. It's the kind of career open mic comics dream about. Now we're going to find out how Steve Martin made it happen.
Apple TV+ is releasing a two-part documentary from A24 and Tremolo Productions called "Steve! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces." What's particularly interesting about this two-part approach is that it will take a look at Steve Martin's life and career from two different perspectives.

Sometimes it feels like Ron Howard has been around forever. The actor/director, who was born on March 1, 1954, has been a star in TV and movies for over 65 years. From his early days playing Andy Griffith‘s son Opie on “The Andy Griffith Show” to his directing of the latest “Star Wars” story, “Solo,” the unassuming Howard still finds himself the center of attention.
Now primarily known as a director, Howard has won two Academy Awards — for producing and directing 2001’s Best Picture winner “A Beautiful Mind” starring Russell Crowe — and has two more nominations to his credit for producing and directing 2008 nominee “Frost/Nixon” starring Michael Sheen and Frank Langella.
Let’s take a photo gallery tour of his 17 greatest feature films, ranked from worst to best. Keep in mind that our gallery strictly focuses on his directing career and leaves out his terrific work as an actor in movies.

Remakes have always been and will always be a tricky proposition. You could have something as pure and wonderful as 1982’s The Thing, which is objectively better than the revered Howard Hawks and Christian Nyby version, but be trapped in purgatory for way too long before it is decided that its proper and loved. There’s a bunch that are better in different ways or at least thoroughly enjoyable in their own right like John Carpenter’s masterpiece, Philip Kaufman’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and of course David Cronenberg’s The Fly. While you can argue the horror vs sci fi merits of any of these movies, their quality can’t be disputed. When it comes down to what you can or can’t remake, I think the gloves are off at this point. There’s very few sacred cows left and sometimes a remake can help. Something...

“The big fear, when I agreed to direct, was that I didn’t really know technically a lot about what a director should know about lenses and apertures,” admits Ray Romano about his initial trepidation about stepping behind the camera on his film “Somewhere in Queens.” The multi-hyphenate talent directed, co-wrote, produced, and starred in the film, but the decision to direct it himself came very late in the development process. What ultimately persuaded him was his sense that he was an expert in “the story and the soul of the story and every character’s motivation.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Penned with Mark Stegemann, “Somewhere in Queens” does draw heavily on Romano’s life experience. The film centers on the relationship between father Leo Russo, played by Romano, and his son Matthew, nicknamed “Sticks” (Jacob Ward), who is the star player on his high school basketball team.

Blue Bloods' cancellation leaves a massive hole in the TV landscape.
While we still have both halves of Blue Bloods Season 14 to look forward to, it hurts knowing these are some of our last visits with the Reagan family.
While Blue Bloods was a cop drama, many fans looked forward to the Sunday dinner scene in each episode and loved the show's family values. When this show goes off the air, that'll be one less family drama on the schedule -- and there aren't many around anymore.
At its heart, Blue Bloods was about a family that loved each other through thick and thin and had each other's backs
Viewers are hungry for that sort of stuff. Every week, Facebook groups for Blue Bloods fans were full of posts discussing the Sunday dinner. Sometimes, the scene would be short, and people would complain or think there wasn't one and get upset.

It promises to take fans “on a hilarious R-rated journey back to the ’90s” along with more of the concept’s signature raunchy humor, eye-popping special effects and a fresh cast of characters played by Max Burkholder (“Parenthood”), Alanna Ubach (“Euphoria”), Scott Grimes (“The Orville”) and Giorgia Whigham (“13 Reasons Why”). They join the iconic teddy bear, Ted, voiced as in the movies by MacFarlane. Watch the teaser trailer above.
In the new story, it’s 1993, and Ted’s (MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend,...

On the surface, Monk wasn't much different from other gimmicky amateur sleuth series -- the genre that began with Murder She Wrote in the 1980s continued.
While Jessica Fletcher was an author-turned-sleuth and Diagnosis Murder's Mark Sloane was a doctor-turned-detective, Monk's selling point was that his Ocd both hindered him and helped him to solve cases.
But for neurodiverse viewers like me, Monk was groundbreaking. While the series ended shortly before Parenthood became known for including an autistic character, Monk deserves the credit for having the first neurodiverse hero on TV.
Monk's Ocd wasn't just a gimmick but part and parcel of who he was.
Although sometimes some of his quirks were played for laughs, he was a lot more than the butt of the joke. Lieutenant Stotlemeyer respected his opinion and knew his different perspective on cases was an asset to the police, even if Monk did drive...

Everyone likes Jason Ritter, the charming actor from shows such as Parenthood, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World and Joan of Arcadia, right? Well, if you’re Gen V’s Sam, you’re not such a big fan of the TV vet.
In TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek from this Friday’s episode of the Boys spinoff (streaming on Prime Video), Sam finds himself suffering from a breakdown involving visions of a puppet show starring Ritter (as himself) and a felt version of The Seven supe The Deep. And to make matters worse, the duo talk directly to Sam from the screen.
