young black man needs to get a grip on everything.
Enjoyed watching this film, but there are some problems. The lead character "Faybien" doesn't give a real strong performance, reciting his lines without much emotion or sincerity (to be fair, this seems to be his first work.) The script isn't very consistent, and the characters seem to change personalities here and there. Faybien is a young, very attractive black man, who isn't really even out to himself yet. His friends talk him into talking to a guy at the bus-stop, but even that is hard for him to do. Derrick Briggs is "Lonnie", who is out, loud, and proud, and puts up with a lot more than most of us would. Love really must be blind. Without giving away plot points, Faybien does things early on that even later on he isn't ready to do yet. He has to get away from his father, so he stays with his friends, and needs to get a job. The script needs some major polishing up for consistency and continuity. The best acting performance was by J'Nara Corbin, who plays his best friend "Amera". She is always shrieking, nagging, complaining, acting surprised at whatever is going on. We hardly ever see her just talk, laugh or have fun. Also a good performance by the hot, muscle guy Maurice Murrell, who plays "Jay". Faybien needs to come to terms with himself, his lifestyle, his father, the people around him. One real fun thing here is the term we hear used instead of the word "GAY"... are people really using this term to avoid saying the word gay? Written and directed by Roger Omeus, this appears to be his first work; hopefully we'll see more from him, a little more polished. I AM glad to see another story about gay African Americans... another good one is "Dirty Laundry" by Maurice Jamal.
