Big Bird is familiar to countless people of multiple generations all around the world who grew up watching “Sesame Street.” But who’s the man behind (or inside, actually) the 8-foot-tall, perpetually six-years-old, 4,000-feathers-covered bird? That would be Caroll Spinney, who has puppeteered Big Bird since the first “Sesame Street” episode aired in 1969. He also puppeteers Big Bird’s next-door neighbor, Oscar the Grouch. Now 81, Spinney still works on the PBS show as both characters and has no plans for retirement. Spinney is the subject of new documentary “I Am Big Bird” (now available to VOD and iTunes in a limited theatrical release), a sweet, reverent tribute to the man behind the yellow feathers. The film puts a spotlight on both his joyous and difficult times on “Sesame Street” and features archival footage and interviews with Spinney, his wife and several “Sesame Street” cast and crew members. Here are the...

Despite mostly negative reviews, the Fifty Shades Of Grey movie has been a massive hit. It could be good news for cinema as a whole...
I’m in a coffee shop in the middle of London, and I keep overhearing the same two words murmured at neighbouring tables or from passers-by: Fifty Shades. I look at my phone, and Fifty Shades is trending on Twitter.
A bus has just gone past in the pouring February rain, and there’s Fifty Shades Of Grey on the side: Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson in a clinch, lips parted, her arms raised above her head. It’s an image just sexy enough to advertise the film’s erotic promise, but not so filthy as to cause alarm: presumably, the handcuffs and nipple clamps are all just out of shot.
Meanwhile, a news story’s doing the rounds about a man glassed by a...

It's curious that a director as idiosyncratic and...well, just plain weird as Tim Burton has become one of Hollywood's A-listers. But from 1989's "Batman" to 2010's billion-dollar-grossing "Alice in Wonderland," the helmer has managed to turn his dark, gothic imagination into something that genuinely captures the hearts and minds of the general public. Indeed, even films like "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and the upcoming "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," which are produced by Burton, show that he, like Alfred Hitchcock before him, has become one of the few directors who's a true brand name, with audiences knowing what they can expect when they purchase a ticket.
But despite his success, Burton, like every filmmaker, isn't necessarily able to get everything he wants made. The path of his career has been littered with a number of projects that either didn't get made at all, or got made with radically different interpretations and visions to them.

Marvel may have regained the movie rights for the Punisher, but not everyone wants them to plow straight ahead into a new film. The Twitter Report covers this perspective, as well as how to talk to your child about Frank Castle today.

The first "Red" trailer for the film based on Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner's comic of the same name is out on the Internet and starting discussions. Both of the book's creators offered commentary via Twitter, as did a few of their colleagues.
Elsewhere, some post-Avengers retreat assessments continued to trickle in over the last 24 hours, and I've got Ed Brubaker and Christos Gage's thoughts retweeted below. Since the "Lost" series finale concluded Sunday night, Twitter friendships have been placed in jeopardy, "Battlestar Galactica" comparisons have been made, and occasionally satisfaction was experienced. While Brian Michael Bendis was unfollowing spoiler-posters, Ron Marz decided that he was Ok with where the episode left everyone. Then there was Dennis Calero, who reached a common ground between the show's failures and successes.
All in all, it was night of fiery words and critical screams in the Twitter Report feed, but I've summed up the big picture in retweets below as best I could. Frank Frazetta's death hit Twitter pretty hard last week, but when news broke that former Black Sabbath frontman Ronnie James Dio passed away last night, writers and artists alike were hit with a second round of shock. In fact, the last 12 hours of tweets in the comics Twitterverse has been totally dominated by personal experiences, appreciation and occasional expressions of indifference from those who never really clicked with Dio's message of dragons, magic and metal.

Elsewhere, big names in comics turned out for "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" last night, including Kevin Smith, who compared his daughter's relationship with the franchise to his own experience with "Star Wars." Far more comics faces were gathered in New York, though, for the Spider-Man summit Fred Van Lente tweeted about yesterday. Dan Slott posted a pic from the group's Marvel-funded dinner. Check that out after the jump along with Gail Simone's first tweet from her Xbox 360, Steve Niles' reaction to last night's meteor shower and Matthew Sturges' Imogen Heap dilemma.
It's all in the Twitter Report for November 17, 2009.
@marcbernardin Nothing against Sir Anthony Hopkins, but if you're not gonna do Brian Blessed for Odin, you shoulda coaxed Sean Connery out of retirement.

The Twitter Report joins most of the comics community today in wishing "Sandman" and "Coraline" creator Neil Gaiman a happy birthday today. That wish might not be able to compete with the illustrated sushi card he received today, but he's a favorite around here, and we hope the day is good to him.
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" has been a trending Twitter topic for weeks now, but after last night's official launch, more tweeters are transitioning over into actually playing the game instead of just talking about it—and Brian Michael Bendis is among them. Phil Hester, meanwhile, prefers pinball.
Check out what they had to say after the jump along with some great art by Todd Nauck. It's all in the Twitter Report for November 10, 2009.

Epic competitions abounded last night as the Yankees bested the Angels to win yet another World Series appearance. New Yorker and Marvel Eic Joe Quesada was so overcome with hometown pride that he's even forsaken his allegiance to the Mets for the duration of the Mlb post season, according to his tweets.
Meanwhile, on the Internet, "Adventures of Dr. McNinja" creator Chris Hastings was involved in a cutthroat contest of voting, wherein his super-cute dog Commissioner Jim Gordon might have won him $1 million. He seemed to have the backing of nearly every webcomic creator on Twitter, that's for sure. Check out who was behind him, as well as the problem Mike Oliveri has with "New Moon" werewolves, which artist Andy Diggle is planning a new creator-owned series with and whether Gail Simone will ever want to write for Marvel again.
It's all after the jump in the Twitter Report for October 26, 2009.

I'm not sure what sparked the wave of "Doctor Who" thoughts on Twitter today, but both James Robinson and Eric Trautman got a bad taste in their mouths, and Tom Brevoort had nothing but praise for the show's new logo.
Elsewhere, Lee Grabett posted a peek at his rendition of Batman and Robin from "Batgirl" #5, which is starting to verge on Frank Quitely. You can read what they all had to tweet below while you also find out what excites Brian Michael Bendis about Baltimore, which tweets lost a few followers for Marc Bernardin and what Geoff Johns thinks of Francis Manapul's Flash.
It's all in the Twitter Report for October 8, 2009.
@LeeGarbett Wanna see a wee Batman and Robin panel from Batgirl #5? http://pic.gd/50a0e0

@pauljholden Say what you like but those fan made Judges uniforms are f---ing ace http://twitpic.

Comic book readers love controversy, and so did creators on Twitter Wednesday night. Tweets showed up all night mourning the death of Twitter user @Hobodarkseid, who was outed in an NPR blog post as being none other than writer Matt Fraction.
Elsewhere, a few creators took issue with claims made my Tyrese Gibson in a CNN article about inventing digital comics for iTunes. Brian Michael Bendis and Christian Beranek both weighed in on that one. On lighter notes, Jon Favreau and Stan Lee are both jazzed about "Iron Man 2," and Stan Lee believes he may outshine Robert Downey Jr.
All of those insights and more can be found below in the Twitter Report for October 1, 2009.
@Jerwa So, @Hobodarkseid is actually Matt Fraction. Well played, sir.
-Brandon Jerwa, Writer ("Highlander," "Battlestar Galactica")
@McKelvie If Batman had known the radio could kill Darkseid, Final Crisis would have been a lot shorter.

Twitter updates were booming last night, which should come as no surprise since most comic book creators are nocturnal. Brian Michael Bendis tweeted a micro-review of the Facebook movie script he's seen, and Rob Liefeld couldn't hold back his excitement coming out of a Deadpool meeting.
Meanwhile, on the East Coast, everyone in comics with a Twitter account seemed to be either out to greet British visitors Andy Diggle and Jock or tweeting their RSVP. Then there was Geoff Johns, who set up his own in-home Mame emulator-powered arcade cabinet. But "Donkey Kong Jr." would prove to be his downfall.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and that mixtape of tweets is waiting for you below in the Twitter Report for September 23, 2009.
@Brianmbendis i read the facebook script. its great. really really great. sorkin might win an oscar great.
-Brian Michael Bendis, Writer ("New Avengers," "Ultimate Spider-Man")
Deadpool pt. 1: @robertliefeld Also excited...

Kevin Smith just completed a 24-hour tweet-a-thon that puts the Twitter commitment of other directors and comics writers to shame. Since yesterday, Smith has been responding to questions about everything from Archie and Veronica to Batman and Robin and Orson Welles. I've pulled out a few highlights below.
Elsewhere, Jock tweeted some kind words about "Judge Dredd" screenwriter Alex Garland, whose script the "Losers" artist is currently developing visuals for. Check out what he had to say below along with Lee Garbett's new Batgirl design and Andy Diggle's possible job in India.
It's all in the Twitter Report for September 8, 2009.
Kevin Smith pt 1: @ThatKevinSmithFrom @mojorojo "Archie chose Veronica. Good call?" Typical: she's from money. He'll just slum it with Betty behind his rich wife's back.
