The series is edited to follow Akira Toriyama's manga more closely than the previous adaptation of the latter half of his manga (Dragon Ball Z.) In other words, the good majority of filler segments are being removed. Because of this, the series is slated to run 100 episodes, as opposed to Z's 291.
The series only covers the "Z" half of the manga. However the first segment of the series incorporated elements of both the Bardock special and Goku growing up (the latter of which was depicted in the original Dragon Ball)
Toei Animation has corrected animation errors from the original anime adaptation, including Vegeta's color scheme prior to arriving on earth.
Where possible, the original voice actors have been brought back to reprise their respective roles.
The show is NOT a new animation, but rather a remastered version of Z. Damaged frames have been removed, the colors have been touched up, and the frames have been edited, due to widescreen televisions becoming the norm in recent years.
