If you’ve tuned in for even a second of awards season this year, you know that La La Land is the film to watch. It swept the Golden Globes, taking home seven awards (which, by the way, set a new record for the most Globes won by a single film, ever) and tied the record for most Academy Award nominations received by a single film — 14. But will it do the same at this weekend’s Screen Actors Guild Awards? Not likely — in fact, the Best Picture contender isn’t even in the running for the SAG equivalent, outstanding cast in a motion picture.

Pitch Perfect fan-favorite Anna Kendrick is in negotiations to headline Disney’s new, as-yet-untitled festive comedy in which she’ll play Santa Claus.
Per Variety, the project is currently brewing under the fetching name of Untitled Disney Female Santa Claus Movie – Nicole is another tentative title – and chronicles the story of Santa’s daughter (Kendrick) who is forced to take control of the family business at the 11th hour. It’s Christmas Eve, and those presents aren’t going to deliver themselves, leaving Nicole with little choice but to take matters into her own hands, check the list twice, and bring the festive spirit to one and all.
Miss Congeniality scribe Marc Lawrence is behind the pitch and may wind up directing should the project coalesce, though no further details were disclosed at the time of writing. Kendrick, who recently starred in DreamWorks’ Trolls movie and Ben Affleck thriller The Accountant,...

If there’s one thing we’ve grown to love about Anna Kendrick — perhaps even more than her acting talent and killer soprano — it’s her self-deprecating, charmingly caustic sense of humor, which she showcases very well on social media and in her new book, Scrappy Little Nobody.
From her random musings on pop culture, to her sarcasm, to smart and only semi-shameless self-promotion, Kendrick is, to her 13.5 million followers (and likely book readers), everyone’s favorite sassy Bff. Anna Kendrick is a Broadway alumna, an Academy Award nominee, a singer and now an author. Her new book, “Scrappy Little Nobody,” is a a collection of autobiographical essays that give a personal and inside view into the actress’ life.
Kendrick began her career in theater productions and earned her first Tony nomination in 1998 at the age of 13, though many fans became familiar with the actress because of her supporting role in the “Twilight” franchise. In her memoir, she reveals how portraying Jessica Stanley really helped pay for bills while she went on to do indie movies.
“None of the other filmmakers I worked with during those years had ever seen ‘Twilight’” she wrote, per Vulture. “But the series kept me in room and board while I did their movies for no money. It was like the world’s most ridiculous day job.”

Who doesn't love J.K. Simmons?
The character actor who most would recognize from having supporting roles in almost every movie, finally got the praise he deserved when he won as Oscar for his career defining role as a mean music teacher in Damien Chazelle's Whiplash.
This fall, Simmons co-stars alongside Ben Affleck in The Accountant. While he has risen to stardom, it was those small roles where he truly won our hearts, and we're looking back on our five favourites.
The Meddler
Playing the love interest to Rose Byrne's overbearing, recently widowed mother (Susan Sarandon), J.K. Simmons made us fall in love with him as well. Rarely portraying the romantic lead in a film, here this Harley Davidson riding adventurer had us at hello. He can be as charming as he can be mean, and...

The Accountant is one of the most anticipated upcoming movies, but it isn’t revealing a lot of details, even in the trailer. The film has finally released a large set of images, and while it isn’t really the norm, you can get quite a bit more detail from them, including a look at a lot more characters and the situations Affleck’s character finds himself in.

We also know that things go wildly wrong because Christian starts shooting people and goes a little “Bond.”

Everyone knows a couple whose behavior prompts the question, “How are they still together?” Clea DuVall’s debut feature film “The Intervention” takes that question to the next level by actually staging a couple intervention. The film follows Annie (Melanie Lynskey) and her fiancé Matt (Jason Ritter) who plan a getaway weekend as an excuse to confront Ruby (Cobie Smulders) and Peter (Vincent Piazza) about their toxic relationship. They invite along two other couples — Jessie (DuVall) and Sarah (Natasha Lyonne) and Jack (Ben Schwartz) and his 22-year-old girlfriend Lola (Alia Shawkat) — in order to ease the tension, but everyone’s presence inevitably ratchets up the awkwardness. Soon, problems arise, secrets are revealed, and relationships are tested as they all start to examine their own lives and connections with others. Watch an exclusive clip from the film below.

While Independence Day: Resurgence isn’t going over as well as the original, we found some things to appreciate. Nonetheless, Roland Emmerich is already gearing up for another sci-fi mammoth. Deadline reports Emmerich is teaming up with long-time collaborating writer Harald Kloser for Moonfall, which the pair wrote together in 2012 with screenwriter Spencer Cohen. Apparently a mix between Emmerich’s own 2012 and Spielberg’s Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Moonfall’s titular event is quite literal as a band of misfits must unite to save our planet and everyone on it when the moon drops from orbit and plummets towards Earth.
There’s no dates attached to the project, but it has been fast-tracked by Universal and will be co-produced by Emmerich and Kloser. In the meantime, read our review of Independence Day: Resurgence and watch a video essay on why the original has held up after 20 years.

The Liam Neeson action thriller The Commuter just gained a shadowy new passenger. Deadline reports that actress Vera Farmiga (The Departed, Up in the Air) has come on board the new movie, which follows Neeson as a businessman who somehow unwittingly gets caught up in a criminal conspiracy on his commute home. (Yes, this is a real movie.)
Farmiga is playing "a mysterious woman who boards a commuter train and proposes an enticing opportunity to Neeson's character — one that has dire consequences if he accepts." She'll reunite with her Orphan director Jaume Collet-Serra, who's also worked with Neeson on movies like Unknown and Non-Stop. The actress is killing it right now on Bates Motel and on the big screen in The Conjuring 2, and I'm hoping she's the major villain in this Hitchcockian mystery because that'd be a fun type of role for her to sink her teeth into.

30 years ago today, Navy fighter pilot hotshots Maverick, Iceman, and Goose first flew across big screens around the world. It was on May 16, 1986 that Top Gun opened in theaters. Already well on his way to becoming a household name thanks to 1983’s Risky Business, Tom Cruise became a certified movie star with the release of Top Gun. It was also the first hit for director Tony Scott, who went on to direct other action flicks and thrillers like Crimson Tide, Man on Fire, and Déjà Vu (which reunited him with Top Gun star Val Kilmer) before his death in 2012. Top Gun, a slick, upbeat, Reagan-era ode to masculinity, boasted a memorable soundtrack (with Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away” and Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone”), impressive dogfights, an endlessly quotable though often goofy script, and, upon its release, immediate box office success. It became the highest grossing movie of 1986. Also on this day,...

In this satiric comedy-drama directed by Jodie Foster - it's her fifth feature film - George Clooney plays Lee Gates, a Wall Street prophet of profit who hosts a Jim Cramer-like cable show. Lee talks a manic streak of highs and lows, winners and losers, buy-nows and sell-sooners, all syncopated to the nano-beat of computerized financial algorithms. Fast-talking comedy isn't always Clooney's strong point - in his movies for the Coen Brothers, he has a rattling briskness that can seem forced - but here he's deadpan smooth even as Lee plays around his set with props, video screens and backup dancers.

When it comes to movie stars, few actors in Hollywood better encapsulate what you want out of a veteran A-lister than George Clooney. Not only is he an accomplished actor with an Academy Award on his mantle, he’s a highly regarded writer and director, with an Oscar for producing under his belt as well. He’s a jack of all trades, and with a new star vehicle out on Friday in Money Monster (which I actually see tomorrow), I thought it was high time to go over his best performances to date. There’s no shortage of quality on Clooney’s permanent record, so finding his top works so far won’t be hard, on top of being a pleasure. He’s had a great career that’s only about at the midway point, so there’s not only tons to look at, but plenty more to come as well!

With most of the Captain America: Civil War attention dedicated towards the protagonists feuding, there.s barely been any news regarding its main antagonist, Baron Helmut Zemo. Few details have been released about this iteration of the character, and he hasn.t been seen in any photos or previews.well, until today. When he’s not defending animals online, Ricky Gervais is keeping very busy with several film projects. While we all eagerly await the David Brent movie later this year, the first trailer for his Netflix original comedy Special Correspondents has arrived. It has some moment that made me smile, so I’m hoping there saving a lot for showtime.
The film is about a struggling New York based radio journalist whose arrogance and decadent lifestyle has hindered his career. With his job on the line, he fakes front line war reports from the comfort of his hideout above a Spanish restaurant in Queens.
The film was written and directed by Ricky Gervais and stars Eric Bana (Deliver Us From Evil, Lone Survivor), Gervais (Muppets Most Wanted, Derek), Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel, Up in the Air), Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire, Brave), Kevin Pollak (The Usual Suspects, Casino), America Ferrera (Ugly Betty,...

Jodie Foster has dealt with a boogeyman or two across her glittering career – Panic Room and of course, The Silence of the Lambs – but for her latest directorial effort, Foster will be guiding the Money Monster onto the silver screen, and today’s stylish new poster introduces George Clooney’s Wall Street mastermind.
Set for a worldwide premiere at Cannes in May – the second of Foster’s films to do so, following The Beaver in 2011 – Money Monster brings together Julia Roberts, Jack O’Connell, Dominic West, Caitriona Balfe and Giancarlo Esposito for a hostage thriller centering on Clooney’s TV personalty, Lee Gates.
