Brilliant haunting love story
vicci-943942 March 2024
It's hard to describe the impact that this film had on me without spoilers, but I'm going to try and do so. It manages to mix haunting surreality with questioning reality. As the film developed I found myself asking what was real. It is an emotional love story that left me feeling Alice's emotions. Afterwards it took me a while to come away from those feelings. Some of the scenes are filmed in such a way that you feel that you're there sitting in the bar, listening to the songs. The beautiful Keswick town and countryside are portrayed in a very understated way, perfect to suit the film. The passing of time, or not, which questions the reality of time is really well portrayed within the film. When I was a student I was profoundly affected by the film 'Truly madly deeply'. This film had the same effect on me and will stay with me forever. The only criticism I have is that at times it was difficult to hear the dialogue clearly.

Memorable, thought-provoking and entertaining

Saw this at the Keswick film festival, and really enjoyed it. It is a spiritual love story, which kept me on edge. I enjoyed the Christmas setting and remembered the feeling of falling in love and all the excitement, power and opportunities that open up. I enjoyed the spiritual side, how it made me think of what might exist beyond what we can see, and how different levels of belief might play out in a couple.

The characters and events will stay with me for quite a while, and I will be recommending it to family and friends when it goes on general release.

It was a brilliant start to the festival.

Beautiful, haunting, memorable

Between the Lights has stuck with me unlike any film I've seen in a truly long time. It's like a feeling surrounding you that lingers and keeps you in its aura, thinking about it. Visually it is a spectacular, beautiful film. The music creates an entire otherworldly experience. The entire film stays with you, envelops you in its magic. I was lucky enough to see the movie around the holidays and months later I am still thinking about it.

It was more than a film-more of a thought provoking transcendent experience that you find yourself turning over and feeling. I would love to study this film, and if I taught I would absolutely assign it. It lends itself to extremely thoughtful and deep discussion and feeling.

A wonderfully poignant film portraying the love that people share and the cruel bad luck that can drive them apart... the spiritual side of the film made me question which parts were real and which were not from within. A good bit of humour within when watching scenes were welcome which I suppose is what you would get if you were ever within a similar scenario. . The reunion by way of which you do not expect shows the thought that has gone into making a film and also reality of what many people believe may well be a reality. As ever with a Christmas film, ending to remember for many different reason. Bravo 👏 👏👏

Haunting, stays with you long after the credit's roll

Set across three years against a backdrop of the Lake District and York. It's a hauntingly beautiful tale of love and loss with a supernatural edge.

The acting is incredible and chemistry between the two leads is a joy to watch. The story takes the viewer on many twists and turns keeps you guessing throughout. It's been a long time since I've sat in a cinema and needed to sit for a while after the credits roll to process. It was enough to give me goosebumps and want to immediately hug the people I love the most.

Stella acting, beautiful cinematography combined with a truly unique script has resulted in my new favourite Christmas film.

To believe or not to believe??

I managed to catch Between the Lights at the Keswick Film Festival. A beautiful, emotive and poignant film set against the stunning backdrop of both the Lake District and beautiful city of York, with a love story at the heart of the film, and a great chemistry between the two main roles, it wasn't quite what I was expecting. It was the exploration of realms of spirituality that stayed with me long after watching, capturing Alices journey from skepticism to spiritual discovery whilst falling in love with someone who was already emersed in the spirit world, invited viewers to look at their own beliefs and kept me hooked.

And to finish, the soundtrack is eerily wonderful!

Looking forward to being able to watch again.
