Dangerous revisionist history
blaxblew10 July 2022
There were some very interesting points in this documentary, and there were certainly some irregularities with the trial, though none of the trial irregularities were smoking guns that swayed his and Larry Demery's clear involvement in James Jordan's murder. It's possible to have a bad police department and still have someone guilty as hell. Much of what he and his attorney want the viewers to believe is downright insulting. He knew exactly who James Jordan was either before they killed him or immediately afterwards - certainly by the time he robbed him of his jewelry which he then wore in that ridiculous homemade rap video. This is the problem I have with this moment in time of revisionist history where we are more focused on criminal rights than humanity toward victims and their families. There was absolutely no remorse shown in the several hours from Daniel Green, which I find remarkable in and of itself. If you are already that void of humanity by 18 years of age, you're already gone. Neither of these men should ever be released from jail because they would probably do it again. The only reason they're muddying the water now is to create reasonable doubt for both of them. That's what criminals do.

Could have been better
saiken-303418 April 2021
If the point of this show is to examine the guilt or innocence of Daniel Green or irregularities in his trial then it was poorly conceived. They waste an entire episode talking about unproven accusations of police corruption and the unproven assertions of racism that occur prior to this trail and are, utterly, unrelated to Green's case. They go so far as to ascribe "White privilege" to an Indian. If I were Daniel and I really was innocent of 1st degree, I'd be a bit disappointed by the circus sideshow. He's no angel for sure. But, is he the guy that pulled the trigger? I'm not too sure about that.

High quality.
etmachina3 April 2021
As compelling as the best murder doc series around. No narration, heavy-handed soundtrack or gimmicks. Although the focus is of course on the murder of James Jordan, it's also very informative about Robeson County, NC, and would be of interest to anyone interested in docs about NC.

Criminal justice reform....
tbuestrin3 April 2021
Whether you believe Daniels claims of innocence or not....this is another documentary which shows the growing need for criminal justice reform in our country. As well as the idea that not all people convicted of violent crimes are incapable of reform. Being a teenager and then 27+ years in prison...it's amazing to watch Daniels persistence. Captivating series...

Must see. Justice denied.
rdisantostefano4 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There was a conviction, but justice has not been served. This series provides a compelling case for wrongful conviction of Daniel Green as the trigger man based on evidence, a solid alibi, and testimony. Add police corruption in Robeson County and racial prejudice into the mix. Shocking. James Jordan was murdered and that's tragic, but they seemed to have convicted the wrong guy as the trigger man. North Carolina legal system needs to take another look.

Not good at all
rmossredd9 April 2021
I feel bad for James Jordan's family who's having to watch this documentary attempt to paint Daniel Greene as a victim of the criminal justice system instead of a murderer. He took a man's life.

Where is the justice?
acarr83 April 2021
Excellent documentary. Shows the reality about corruption in Robeson County, and it seems someone is still getting "paid" to keep Daniel Green from getting a new and fair trial. Daniel never got a fair trial. High profile case rushed to a conviction....only makes Robeson County look worse. Cudos to Chris Mumaw and her team for trying to get justice for Daniel. There are so many more questions than answers....

Unsatisfying... Sanctimonious and unfocused
3lazycats4 April 2021
This series suffers from it's lack of focus on the victim and a very poorly presented timeline of the crime or the evidence. I wanted to know more about the victim, the police investigation and the trial. From episode 2, but the docuseries fails to present a cogent telling of what happened, or present a timeline of the crime as well as the corruption in the community.

At it's heart, the series attempts to tell a more important story about justice reform, but does so in a way that's very insulting to the viewer. I expect socially minded documentaries to tell a factual story that leads the viewer to the same high minded conclusions as the directors/editors. This documentary fails to do this, from Epsiode 2 on they tell us what to think, and as a critical viewer it feels preachy. Justice reform is an obvious conclusion, however the constant, repetitive heavy handedness takes away from the impact and importance of the message.

This could have been smart and thought provoking, but instead it comes off as sanctimonious, uncaring about the victim, unfocused and unsatisfying.

The corruption!!!!
imbackbasics16 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Wow, I knew Robeson was corrupt but didn't realize just how much. Dimery admitted to the shooting, Greenes trial was a sham. It's time to let him out. He never got a fair trial.

Justice not served!
snowbear-401658 April 2021
This case should have ended in a mistrial, for the way the prosecutor admitted to being pissed off, and taking his personal feelings of being attacked on the defendant. After the denial of appeals, with the cases of law enforcement being so heavely corrupt, it's impossible to believe they got any cases right! But the shirt evidence, the lack of blood, the statements of theco defendant co justice was not served! But let's not forget the victim deserves justice and the truth is the only way for the victim to rest in peace.

Defendant.

Giving Voice
dfcolpitts6 April 2021
This is a multi-faceted story - of a young man who did not have a voice in his trial, of the corruption and racial tension in Robeson County, and of a justice system that is unjust. Well documented and well-researched, the series presents compelling, newly seen evidence that provides background for Daniel Green's efforts to gain a new trial.

Lazy
dagqb5 April 2021
Intellectually lazy. Documentary points out "dots" but fails to fully clarify or connect them. A scene where the innocence project attorney is clearly speaking to an iPhone that is not connected to a call, demonstrates the theatrics... its "making a Murder" but without any real contradictory evidence. Incredibly lazy film making.

Poignant and Convincing
mark-stuart-cohen5 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The moment of truth is that Justice has been denied to Daniel Green. His incarceration has lasted long past his responsibility in the crimes committed no matter the high profile status of the case.

The evidence presented in the series and contriteness of Mr. Green for his actions measured against the legal system in North Carolina reveals a serious flaw. Not in Mr. Green but in the State of North Carolina.

The murder of Michael Jordan's father, James, is indeed very sad and tragic. But given the evidence presented in this series that Daniel Green had no part in the act his story is equally sad and tragic. And I hope that someone who has power in North Carolina will find it in themselves to do the right thing. God Bless everyone involved.

Think About It...
hlee-748873 April 2021
The documentary really focuses on 1 person. The one person who took the fall for the death of Michael Jordon's father. And from there, in the backdrop of the investigation, there is a strong message calling for criminal reform. But.....

....what is clear is that one of these guys either killed James Jordan, or/and they know a whole lot more than the police report says. So regardless of this trendy "crime reform"....what about justice for the man who was brutally killed at the height of MJ's career? The brutal death of an innocent man seems to fall through the cracks and replaced by trying to free someone who the evidence pointed to. And there lies the problem with criminal reform. Often, it means to overlook ACTUAL JUSTICE.

We can have crime reform AND have justice for the victims. But this documentary seems to focus more heavily on the reformation part.

I love crime shows... I tried...
dshell10214 April 2021
It starts with a crime.

Then it seemed like a completely separate crime in the second episode... Then it zig zagged into "racism" and other theories.

It doesn't stick to the facts, the line of thought is all over the place...

I wouldn't recommend this one at all. When they throw in "racism" theories instead of sticking to the facts, it loses credibility quickly. Tell the facts. If they point to that, so be it. But when you have to tell us all about it, it's pushing it.

It was painful to watch.

Lazy Production
chrissso2 January 2023
Regardless of content ... it is beyond me how someone could put together a production that is frequently totally inaudible! Yes I'm talking about all the courtroom recordings that sound like they were captured by a 1970 cassette recorder from Radio Shack (the one that was $9.99). The fact they would not take the time to augment with subtitles tells me this is a very questionable and lazy production.

Don't Waste Your Time
neilreedcom13 February 2023
I love how film makers try and change the outcome of trials to suit their narrative of events. Other that the facts you see presented them s is pretty much a plea that release a murder or at the very least a willing accomplice. This is filmed from one very slanted perspective, Daniel Green and his bleeding heart attorney who thought she was the Queen of courts! They speculate on what could have or should have happened in the court room, it matters not, it didn't happen and you have to accept the consequences of your actions. The two perpetrators who commuted this crime were and are still guilty. Matters not who pulled the trigger, the morals of some attorneys absolutely astound me, doesn't matter that they are guilty my ego will get them a new trial because the first one was flawed! All trials are flawed, they are all on the brink of a mistrial if rules are followed to the letter. This film try's to dream up new evidence that doesn't exist!
