The carjack and the cheating wife
jotix1001 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The episode begins with a carjack on a solitary road where a couple is overtaken by bandits that want their fancy car, nothing else. Unfortunately, the criminals take the couple's young boy, sleeping in the back seat.

The burglaries to some of the businesses near the agency continue. This time is Mr. Patel's shop. He is not too upset, but he wants to discuss something with Mme Ramotswe. His interest is for the detective to keep an eye on Patel's teenage daughter. He wants to know whether she is seeing any boys, their customs do not see kindly to dating so young.

Mme. Pekwane comes to see Precious with a problem. Her husband has a brand new car and she cannot imagine how he got it. His explanations do not make sense. Feeling it is a stolen car, she wants Mme Ramotswe to track down the right owner to return it. JLB explains to Precious most cars are stolen in South Africa, then sold to neighboring countries, which fits the case she is undertaking.

The other case she gets involves the local butcher, Rra Badule, a decent man who cannot make any sense of how his wife is paying for their son's fancy school and their credit card debts. He suspects she is having an affair. For this investigation she asks Grace to follow Mme Badule and see what's going on. Her assistant's first case is a success, she has followed the butcher's wife to a rich suburb where the was seen with a man in compromising ways.

Mme. Ramotswe deals with all the cases in her usual manner. Her intuition, plus common sense works well with this intelligent woman, the heroine of Alexander McCall Smith's beloved novels about the detective from Botswana. This episode was directed by Tim Bricknell and adapted by Robert Johnson. The African cast, led by American Jill Scott, do their best for the director, resulting in another great chapter in the series.
