Two weeks after opening Lois Lowry’s novel adaptation The Giver in the #5 weekend box office spot, Walden Media and The Weinstein Co. are making a pledge for the upcoming Labor Day weekend. Fifty cents of every ticket sold during the holiday frame will go to the National Education Association Foundation. The Ticket To A Better World initiative will provide books to American children in need from ticket sale proceeds, up to the amount of $250,000.
That’s about 500,000 tickets that Walden and TWC will have to sell over the long weekend, or $4 million in box office going by average ticket prices. Last weekend the fantasy-drama starring Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites, and Meryl Streep made $6.43 million over three days. Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy held strong for #1 last weekend and teen drama If I Stay may give The Giver its closest competition in its second week, but the only new...

50 Cent is a financial titan. The rapper has expanded his brand into sneakers, books, body spray, condoms, vitamin water, energy drinks and, of course, film production via his Cheetah Vision production company. And that's what we're here to talk about. You see, while 50 Cent likes to make money -- lots of it -- that doesn't necessarily mean he cares about the quality of product he puts out there. And so, it's hardly a shock that his steps into the film production world have resulted in movies that pretty much go straight-to-dvd. We're talking about his cancer drama "All Things Fall Apart" or the thriller "Setup" with Bruce Willis and Ryan Phillippe. And now his latest attempt at moviemaking, "Freelancers," seems headed for the same fate, and this time it will bring down two Academy Award winners with it.
The project was first announced last spring, and then we forgot about it,...

With vast experience on stage and screen (big and small), Eileen Dietz' career has woven a path in-and-out of the horror genre. While horror fans will no doubt associate the actress with her role as the face of evil in William Friedkin's Oscar-winning 1973 film The Exorcist, Dietz has many stories to tell. Fangoria's Australian correspondent Lee Gambin recently sat down for a one-on-one interview to discuss her career and craft.
Lee Gambin/Fangoria: What were some of your very first jobs in the entertainment industry, as I understand you started super young and how did the Neighborhood Playhouse Theatre School benefit you as a young actress?
Eileen Dietz: I worked at a Summer Stock company in Kalamazoo Michigan. It was a very bad place and the director of the theatre only brought me up there to rob me of my innocence if you know what I mean.
