It doesn’t feel like hyperbole to say that there’s little separating Gunna’s A Gift & a Curse from 2Pac’s Me Against the World. Outside of a few notable historical differences, both albums find their creators defending their honor against a “world” (read: media apparatus) that allegedly longs for their downfall. They also equally embrace martyrdom narratives, where the rappers present themselves as utterly bewildered as to how anyone could take issue with their past actions, and that any animosity aimed their way stems from bitter jealousy.
On A Gift & a Curse, though, the only figure treated with more reverence than Gunna is Young Thug, whom the former may or may not have “snitched” on and who’s spoken of here with an almost Christ-like holiness. Across the album’s 15 tracks, Gunna’s repeated line of defense against naysayers is that his unwavering love for Thug is proof...

Megan Thee Stallion is taking another step to put her professional relationship with 1501 Certified Entertainment behind her.
In court documents obtained by People, the 27-year-old’s attorneys requested 1 million in relief from the record label, with whom she has previously had legal issues regarding music releases. The rapper — who goes by her legal name Megan Pete in the filing — claims that her last two albums, Something for Thee Hotties and Traumazine, have fulfilled the requirements of her contract with 1501, which she has called “unconscionable.”
“Over the past two (2) years, Pete and 1501 shared a long and tortured history of disputes with each other concerning Pete’s recording agreement, including the unconscionability of the agreement in its original form, as well as disputes concerning the release of Pete’s music,” the complaint reads.

This category will be a face-off between Drake and The Weeknd. The former topped the Billboard year-end Top Male Artists chart, which gives him an obvious advantage. The Weeknd has not only had more longevity than Drake, he also dropped a whole new album in 2022. The 2022 Billboard Music Awards are set to take place on May 15 at MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. This year's show is shaping up to be an exciting event with major artists like Ed Sheeran, Travis Scott, Megan Thee Stallion, Silk Sonic, and more tapped to set the stage ablaze. The performance lineup for the BBMAs, announced on May 9, is noticeably missing this year's seven-time nominated act BTS. So why has the K-pop supergroup decided to sit out the 2022 BBMAs? We may have an idea.
BTS have amassed a whopping seven nods at the 2022 BBMAs, which include major categories such as top selling song for both their singles "Butter" and "Permission to Dance," top global 200 (excluding US), and top rock song for their collaborative effort with Coldplay for "My Universe." The global superstars sit atop the list of finalists with the most nominations among duo or group acts this year.

BTS were the big winners at the 2021 American Music Awards, prevailing in all three of their categories: Favorite Pop Duo or Group, Favorite Pop Song for “Butter,” and Artist of the Year. Keeping up with the theme, the stage illuminated with bright yellow lights and the animated "Butter" sign. Of course, BTS did the choreography that got more than the Army screaming. The K-pop...

What’s old was suddenly New again during Sunday’s American Music Awards, which welcomed an iconic pair of ’80s music groups to the stage for a performance decades in the making.
Actually, it was more of a face-off than a traditional performance. New Edition (Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant) and New Kids on the Block (Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood) came together for something billed as the “Battle of Boston.”

When the American Music Awards asked Jennifer Lopez if she wanted to perform during Sunday’s ceremony, she said, “I do.”
Just three days after the trailer for her buzzy rom-com Marry Me set Twitter ablaze (with questions), Lopez took to the AMAs stage for a performance of the movie’s first single “On My Way.” Lopez began the performance seated in a black gown, from which she soon quick-changed into a wedding dress, complete with a veil. Pop is always a stacked genre, but the race this year at the American Music Awards might be stronger than ever. Everyone — from big established artists like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and The Weeknd, to newer artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Doja Cat — is on the hunt to pick up one or two awards to add to their shelves. Let’s consider who’s most likely to prevail.
Favorite Male Pop Artist
A win for Justin Bieber is more than likely here. Not only does he have a big fan base, he has also had one of his strongest years ever thanks to the success of his album “Justice” and the number-one singles “Peaches” and “Stay.” If an upset happens, it could be Lil Nas X, who has also had a successful year with his own hit album “Montero” and number-one singles “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” and “Industry Baby.

BTS has a lot going on these days - then again, when do they not? Even when BTS could not jet-set around the world for international events because of the pandemic, they still maintained a packed schedule, attending Korean events in person and U.S. ones virtually. But, on Nov. 17, that all changed because BTS landed in L.A. for their first in-person U.S. promotion spree since February 2020. U.S.-based fans will get live concerts, late-night T.V. appearances, and even award show performances. But with all this going on, the question is: Will BTS attend the Melon Music Awards in Korea? BTS has banked so many unforgettable performances at the show (their 2018 "Idol" performance still lives rent-free in ARMYs' minds), so it's hard to imagine the boys not attending. However, there's a chance this year will be one where BTS won't be there in person for a couple of reasons.

The first live performance of the remix version of “Butter” by the joined forces of BTS and Megan Thee Stallion is among the initial lineup promised for the 2021 American Music Awards, set to be broadcast live on ABC from L.A.’s Microsoft Theatre Nov. 21.

British singer-songwriter Adele has returned in style, setting a new Spotify single-day record for streams on her forthcoming album’s first single, “Easy On Me.”
The record was set less than 24 hours after the single’s release. It’s part of her new album, 30, which comes out Nov. 19.
Music streamer Spotify certified the record Friday on Twitter, congratulating Adele by tweeting, “And just like that, Adele set a new record.”
The actual streaming numbers were not released. The Twitter post arrived with three hours left in the 24-hour cycle since the “Easy On Me” release.
The previous record was held by BTS’ “Butter,” which made its Spotify debut on May 21 and garnered more than 11 million streams. It was at the time the largest global debut in the platform’s history, surpassing BTS’ own record set by 2020’s “Dynamite.”
The new Adele album is, according to her, about her divorce from husband Simon Konecki.

BTS and Coldplay debuted at number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 with their collaboration “My Universe,” which will be featured on Coldplay‘s imminent “Music of the Spheres” album (due for release on October 15). That was no surprise given what a hot streak BTS have been on. But while the Korean boy band has been making waves around the world for years now, they have accumulated all of their six number-one hits so far in a span of just 13 months. That puts them in elite company.

BTS and Coldplay went fully, gloriously sci-fi in the music video for their collaboration, “My Universe.” In the new music video, released at midnight on September 30th, the two bands exist in a futuristic reality where music is forbidden. In spite of the ban, and with the help of a space DJ, the groups come together for a high-energy, galaxy-spanning performance of their new song.
The “My Universe” music video/short film is directed by Dave Meyers, an American filmmaker best known for his commercials and music videos, which include MVs for artists Drake, Ed Sheeran, Pink, Normani, Ariana Grande, and many, many more. High-concept, genre-driven music videos are par for the course in the visually immersive world of K-pop, but are less common in western music videos, which have more “grounded,” realistic aesthetics, even when they skew fantastical. A great example of the latter is Harry Styles’ “Adore You” video.
