I collect my favorite starlets on DVD, and my research showed AnnaLynne McCord of 90210 is in NIP/TUCK, so I rushed in and got me #1 to kick it off. A highly unusual show, full of intricate surgery, close-ups, how do they do that stuff (well, in due course I got an understanding of that, thanks to the DVD extras showing the rubber prosthesis) but that is not the point right now. Even though I saw that Eden Lord was still far off, I green-lighted the further purchases, and eventually, I had all six. Since then, I have been watching. People, you're gonna think my negative responses come from being shocked by all that surgery. No. The more this show progresses, the more you see the debasement of humanity. It is getting worse and worse. And worse.
Blood and gore as entertainment is kinda sick, but, okay then, okay... But seeing pathetic people presented comically... To laugh at? Well, I don't. But I suspect MANY if not MOST of this show's ghouls, er, fans, DO.
This particular episode kicked off very badly as well, with that nerdy little Raj laughing at a pathetic transgender patient. But, okay, Raj is a story character, okay. I just think he is very representative of the general NIP/TUCK fan-base.
You will have noticed that I gave the episode a 7...? So, what gives?
There is this most beautiful girl in this plot, the rough-handed medical student who secretly has an infantile philia, which she later demonstrates to Sean, especially when she (er, ah, damn this being a family site, how an I gonna say this) gives him the nether-region French kisses of his life (!!!), and then babies him, shaving him bare (there!!!) and as the coup d'grace, wrapping him up in a diaper. Now that last bit is pretty damn stupid-looking as well, but wow, that beautiful actress, Jamie Ray Newman, and she sounds just like Julie Benz did in her hey-day!
I am ploughing through buckets and buckets of vomit (well, yeah, I'm not exaggerating, dammit, this episode is tops in barfing, what with Christian's chemo) and gore and severed toes and gay dudes this way and gay dudes that way and more gay friends of Mister Ryan Murphy that way, to get to the liberal sprinklings of the regular high-quality glamour. Along the way, I have developed very, very hostile feelings to the creators of this show. For once in my life, I AM OFFENDED.
About myself, I have a very liberal, to-each- their-own attitude. Go do as you like, just don't hurt others, that's more or less it. Nudity? Nudity is fine and beautiful. I am opposed to cosmetic surgery, not if it's actually reconstructive, that's why it should exist. But I abhor the DDD breast implant mentality, and I originally feared NIP/TUCK would be all about that. Okay, so it's not. Instead, NIP/TUCK is about giving some idle stupid dumb goofballs exactly what they want, realizing their inane dreams. Well, okay, some characters come with legitimate requests, but there is of course the trend to show the most extreme of extreme banal requests.
But, I was trying to paint you a picture of myself there, and I meandered off course. I am the kind of guy who believes in freedom of expression, I'm definitely not the kind of guy who goes around being disgusted/offended BUT jumping jellybeans, people! Enough is enough, this is el sicko, yucksville!
And the injuries the main characters have suffered! Julia has gone through a glass wall, been poisoned, shot point blank, Matt was on fire, remember what The Carver did... but, hell, these people are virtually indestructible thanks to plastic surgery. Show really should carry a health hazard warning: This Is Total Fiction, Flesh Cannot This Easily Be Repaired.
My rating of 7 is for the lovely actress, I cannot bear to rate it as a 1 or 2 as it truly deserves for the multitude of sins it committed against this viewer in the 34 minutes or so when she is not on the screen. I will battle on through the rest of the episodes, for AnnaLynne, for other beautiful starlets, but I curse your name, Ryan Murphy, and I think you are a weird old poof!
(I suppose you could say NIP/TUCK is reflective of a sick society, a sick angst-ridden society gorging on its own entrails, so it is a statement, a piece of art. But then, it is the trashiest, and corniest, art to gain mainstream success, imaginable)
