A personal issue for John...

... since he himself has gone through the process of immigrating from Britain and becoming an American citizen. He actually met his wife at the 2008 Republican Convention, when she hid him from security there. If he had been arrested for what he was doing, he could have been deported, so he feels comradery with other immigrants, and it shows.

Here he highlights the plight mainly of Central American asylum seekers and their difficulties waiting for an asylum hearing in Mexico where they often don't get word of the correct date and place of their hearing. One got a hearing date on a weekend, one at 1 AM, and often the place is not mentioned. He's taking a bit of a chance bringing this up right before the election and highlighting it as something that would change under a Biden administration, because I'm not sure many of his/my fellow Americans are as charitable as he is towards immigrants, especially in the numbers that we could be getting them. I'm sure he knows that if Biden wins it will probably be because Americans are impatient with the federal non response to Covid and nothing else.

Some of the scenes from this episode came from the documentary "Immigration Nation" on Netflix, and that looks like something worth seeking out on the subject.
