Not only was Steve Austin a talented and giving worker who could have a great match with most people and cut quality promos, he was also the biggest draw in wrestling history. In short, the perfect wrestler. Under rated by some, slightly over rated by others, Austin was a joy to behold throughout his career. His ego as his career went on did effect both him and those around him negatively, but hopefully he's taken his knocks and learned from them now.
Austin started off his career in the big time as a member of an under appreciated tag team in WCW. Along with his talented, high flying partner, Brian Pillman known collectively as the Hollywood Blondes, they had some scorching matches. One of those their steel cage match with Dos Hombres form Slamoree in 1993 is included on disc one.
Austin and Pillman's tag team was eventually broken up which led to a quality blow off match at Clash of Champions XXV in 1993.
Austin as a singles wrestler didn't have much to cow about in WCW but he did get to face Ricky Steamboat for the United States Championship in 1994, this is a good match and included on the DVD.
Austin was eventually let go by WCW and ended up in ECW. The facts in this are lacking, with only Austin's side given and no mention to the fact that Steve was acting in a childish and unprofessional way as well as hiding behind his wife when he was fired over the phone.
He cuts an awesome promo on the WCW hierarchy upon arriving in ECW and finds himself in a triple threat title match against Sandmana and Mikey Whipwreck, which is on the DVD.
Austin finally got the call from WWE and was put into Ted DiBIase's Million Dollar Club. DiBIase was forced to retire after our next match, Stone Cold's loss to Savio Vega in an entertaining Caribbean Strap Match at In Your House: Beware of the Dog in 1996.
Austin cut a promo about Austin 3:16 in there somewhere and our next match is one of the best of Austin's career as he takes on "The Hit-man" at Survivor Series 1996 in a No.1 contender's match to end disc one.
Disc Two starts off with Austin the second biggest star in the WWE behind the Undertaker and the two of them in a WWE TItle match from In Your House: A Cold Day in Hell from 1997. This is a passable match ending with an all in brawl thanks to the evil Hart Foundation.
The next stop on Austin's trip to mega stardom was joining with Shawn Micheals to win the tag team titles from Owen Hart and British Bulldog on RAW in May 1997. This led to another god match, with Austin taking on MIcheals one on one at the 1997 King of the Ring.
Stone Cold was still having issues with the Hart foundation and again found himself taking on Owen hart and British Bulldog for the tag titles, this time with Dude Love in his corner. Dude Love makes a hell of an entrance, they have a nice chaotic brawl. Good stuff.
Next is the infamous match where Stone Cold broke his neck against Owen Hart. This was a real shame as it had been a good match up until that point, but Austin's pain made the ending ridiculous.
Austin wins the WWE Championship and our next match is his first PPV TItle defence against DSde Love from Unforgiven 1998. This is a decent match. Next we have Kane defeating Austin in a First Blood match to win the WWE Title and then losing it to Austin the next night. Both are good matches, with the Undertaker having a heavy say in both outcomes. And so ends Disc Two.
Disc three starts off with Stone Cold's excellent win over the Rock in a No Holds Barred match at Backlash 1999. And then it talks about Austi missing a year due to his back injury. His first match back was with Eddie Geurrero on SmackDown in November 2000.
We then see two classic bouts between Austin and TRiple H. The first from survivor Series 2000 is a fairly generic brawl which ends incredibly with Triple H, trapped in a car, being dropped from height by an industrial forklift. The second match, one of the best of Austin's career is his Three Stages of Hell loss to Triple H at No Wy Out 2001.
The disc ends with another great match, Austin's win over the Rock in the main event of Wrestlemania X-7.
This is a solid collection, though it could easily have been better. Still, Austin's is a career worth re-living and this DVD does that well.
