Before the bombshell allegations of sexual misconduct that led to Matt Lauer's firing from the Today show by NBC, he and former co-host Savannah Guthrie had grown close professionally in their five years of working together.
The 45-year-old morning show host, who made the announcement of Lauer's termination on-air last Wednesday, was "affected the most" by the news, a source told Et last week.
"She’s not herself. She’s visibly shaken," the source added, explaining that around the studio on Thursday morning, Guthrie appeared "sad, in deep thought and preoccupied" off-camera. "She is doing her best to stay upbeat and jolly on-air."
Guthrie and Lauer had shared the desk since July 9, 2012, when she took over for Ann Curry. Since then, the two, along with Al Roker, also hosted both the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as well as the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting ceremony.

Bb-8 was the scene-stealer in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but the droid felt like a distant memory the moment a porg popped up in the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Lucasfilm aired a new 15-second TV spot during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC Thursday. Though it didn't reveal any major plot points, given its compact time constraints, it did show Chewbacca smacking a porg while piloting the Millennium Falcon—and fans loved it. Directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in theaters Dec. 15. The ensemble cast includes Kenny Baker (R2-D2), John Boyega (Finn), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Anthony Daniels (C-3Po), Benicio Del Toro...

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2017 brought the '90s nostalgia! Famed boy band 98 Degrees recently reunited for a new holiday album, Let It Snow, some 20 years after they first formed, and gave fans a teaser from it at the event. Nick Lachey, Drew Lachey, Justin Jeffre and Jeff Timmons performed a new song, "Season of Love," on top of Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas advent calendar float. "You were a boy band. Are you now a man band?" Al Roker asked the group on NBC's Today show. "We're a gramps band," said Drew. "Twenty years later, we're like the old man band." "We...

For many families, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is an integral holiday morning tradition. In 2016, NBC modernized its yearly spectacle by partnering with Verizon to launch a live stream that offered 360-degree views of the floats, performances, and assorted acts that rolled through Manhattan.
Now, with Turkey Day right around the corner, Verizon and NBCUniversal are teaming up for the second straight year. The 2017 live stream of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will go live at 9 Am Est on Thursday, November 23 via the Verizon YouTube channel. Olivia Culpo, who emceed the digital broadcast last year, will return as co-host; this year, she'll be joined by Keith Habersberger, the BuzzFeed employee best known as one of the four members of the internet-famous outfit The Try Guys.

Josh Gad has played a lot of great roles throughout his career. From starring as Elder Cunningham in Broadway's hit "The Book of Mormon" to acting as the funny sidekick LeFou in Disney's 2017 Beauty and the Beast, the actor has received high praise for his performances. However, Gad is arguably best known for his portrayal as Olaf in Frozen. Gad's voiceover performance as the lovable snowman has earned him several Frozen spinoffs, as well as an Olaf balloon in the upcoming Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. But during a guest appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Gad admitted it can be hard for him to turn the Olaf voice off. Gad told host Stephen Colbert he reads Frozen books to...

Image Source: Getty / Michael Buckner After an '80s heyday of toning tushes on tapes, Richard Simmons continued to be in the pop culture stratosphere for decades, until recently. The lively fitness guru would appear on late-night segments, would teach classes at his Beverly Hills studio, and was always ready to pose with fans for a picture. Then, in 2014, he stopped showing up for classes. He stopped talking to his friends. He no longer bounded out of his home to meet buses full of tourists - he didn't leave his home at all. The disappearing act has become the subject of a hit podcast, Missing Richard Simmons. It's hosted by Dan Taberski, who, above all, seems genuinely concerned about a generous and caring man who he had come to think of as a friend. While we're still not exactly sure what Richard is up to or if he'll emerge any time soon,...

Forget everything you knew about Thanksgiving. This holiday is actually creepy Af. Sure, we gather around the television each year to kick off our festivities with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, but has anyone ever realized the beloved tradition actually stars a straight-up terrifying cast of characters? There has been a great deal of speculation about the possible appearance of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot. It was originally believed that the iconic lovable monster from the 1984 film would not show up in the Paul Feig-directed film, but Sony Pictures has just released a new TV spot featuring the sweet Stay Puft getting roasted for some ecto s'mores. Everyone's Gone Insane About The Ghostbusters, Here's Why Take a look at the new spot in the player above. Of course this isn't the sailor we know from the original. It's a tip of the hat more than an actual character, as the Stay Puft here is part of a stampede of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade ghost balloons. Two additional spots give us more of a sense of the dynamic between the leads. Take a look! Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth star in the new Ghostbusters which opens on July 15.

If you've visited Facebook over the past, oh, let's say five years, you've probably noticed the proliferation of internet memes. Sure, they were always popular in certain circles online, but their customizable and sharable nature has pushed them out of niche culture and into the mainstream. We live in a world in which Rick Astley actually Rickrolled the entire nation during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2008. That's crazy.
You all probably know the origins of many of these, but WatchMojo put together a quick video that shows the movie scenes that inspired many of the internet's most popular memes. If you're new to the whole meme thing (hi, Mom), this will at least give you a baseline for where this stuff started.

"All About That Bass" is still the no. 1 song in the country, and Meghan Trainor has been duly rewarded with an appearance at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, alongside Nick Jonas, Becky G, Lucy Hale and Sting, as well as an unknown number of high-school marching bands and color guards. If this seems like an unimpressive lineup to you, remember that Rick Astley performed on the 2008 parade purely off of the popularity of Rickrolling. The standards are not super high. Idina Menzel is also appearing this year; her hit "Let It Go" would seem to be particularly bad advice for the parade's legions of balloon holders.

Austin Mahone set the record straight on rumors about dating Selena Gomez, insisting the two are “just friends.”
Mahone, 17, and Gomez, 21, first sparked rumors of a romance over the summer when they were spotted enjoying a day at Disneyland with friends following her split from Justin Bieber.
Mahone has been called a ‘young Justin Bieber’ by many, and his career has been picking up steam in the past few months. He appeared at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and is scheduled to perform on Good Morning America Friday, Jan. 31. And now, Manhone is reaching out to quash rumors of a relationship with Gomez, telling people, “We’re just friends.”
“She’s really cool… I mean, I think she’s really pretty but every time I’m in L.A., she’s like, ‘Hey you’re in L.A., lets hang out.’ So it’s cool,” Mahone said.

In his column for The Huffington Post last night, Jujamcyn Theaters president Jordan Roth addressed several issues having to do with blinding ourselves to experiences and realities that we don't want to see. Roth zeroed in on Kinky Boots' recent Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade performance, which prompted a backlash on Twitter. The responses ranged from supportive to downright nasty, but the most common reaction was from concerned parents who would now have to explain men in drag to their children.

Kinky Boots won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Musical, so of course the show would be one of the four major Broadway shows to perform at this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, right? Apparently the show's elaborate performance did not go over so well in parts of the country not used to seeing drag queens dancing in high red leather boots.

One of the big celebrity headliners of the 2013 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was the Robertson family from the hit A&E reality show "Duck Dynasty." Willie Robertson (middle), third son of Phil and Miss Kay and CEO of Duck Commander, tells FOX411 that they were extremely excited to be a part of the festivities.
"It's something we watched together as a family. It's an honor to be up here, we're real excited so we brought the whole crew," says Robertson.
"It's been quite a year. The good Lord's been good to us, blessed us a bunch, so we hope we can continue on the path we're on, staying positive and keeping it real and moving forward with our faith and family," he adds. "That's the recipe that's gotten us here, so we're going to stick with that."

Bringing a little drama, as well as a little humor to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Kristin Chenoweth tried lip syncing while waving to the spectators.
Although the 45-year-old's heart was in it, her voice was not. She was slated to perform "New York New York," but when she forgot to start singing, the pre-recored track continued on without her.
Knowing that the show must go on, the "Alone" singer carried on with the performance, lip-syncing the entire song, as energetic as ever.
In related news, Chenoweth is currently working on a very Real movie project, named "Hard Sell," which comes to theaters in the United States in 2014.
The synopsis states that, "Hardy Buchanan, a poor student surrounded by affluence at an elite private school, uses the help of a stripper to raise money for his dog's surgery."...

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were one of the acts riding a float and performing for the 2013 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. They were on some kind of cheerleader-themed float performing "Any Weather," the lead single of 2013 album "Unvarnished."
And frankly, not looking particularly enthused to be there. Perhaps she doesn't really mean "any weather" -- at least in regards to riding with a giant megaphone down 34th Street in freezing temperatures as teenybopper girls wave pom-poms (and possibly wonder who Joan Jett even is).
Heh. What was your favorite performance from the Macy's 2013 Thanksgiving Day Parade? We really liked Kristin Chenoweth on "New York, New York" -- even despite the lip-sync flub.
