Dyer's Close Encounter On TV Show

12 November 2009 8:06 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

British actor Danny Dyer had an out-of-this-world experience filming a new TV show about spaceships - he saw a U.F.O.

The Dead Man Running star mixed with alien-spotters when he investigated extra-terrestrials for his upcoming U.K. programme I Believe - but got a little too close to the subject matter for comfort.

He says, "I saw one, yeah. People think I'm a complete lunatic now but I did see something a bit mad. I went to America, to a hippie commune and had to get a bit spiritual... I went to meet some people who have been abducted and things like that, and they told me some really mad things. I think you have got to open your mind a little bit.

"I just want to believe that there's things (sic) out there. I did see something. It wasn't a plane, it wasn't a helicopter, it just looked like a massive star going across the sky. But it freaked me right out." »

Review: Movie Triple-Bill

11 November 2009 8:44 AM, PST | t5m.com | See recent t5m.com news »

I’ve been busy. I packed in three films over the weekend, and rather than dedicate a single review to each (and since others at t5m have already covered 2 of the films in depth) I’ve cut down my response to the bare essentials. Energy-efficient reviewing is going to be the next big thing. Why not put it on your iPhone/BlackBerry? Have you even got time to go to the cinema? Do something productive! Dead Man Running Most of the funding for this film was put up by Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole. They are professional footballers, in case you didn’t know, and as you might imagine their taste in films is roundly reflected in this cockney gangster action flick. It’s an absolutely ridiculous romp* through the underbelly of London and eventually Manchester, with an ex-con forced to payback £100,000 to an American kingpin (played with surprising »

The 'Crimewave' rapper said he was assured of the quality of the film when he found out the 63-year-old 'Atonement' actress would be cast alongside him in the British gangster film.

He said: "I only go for films which have a certain level of artistic integrity and I knew I would be safe in Brenda's company."

Brenda, meanwhile, has said she has enjoyed the boost to her "street cred".

She added: "My street cred has rocketed since I have been in a film with 50 cent."

The Week in Film: What will fly at the box office? And what won't?

23 October 2009 2:13 PM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Editor's note: This week we're welcoming Mike Wong on board to write our weekly movie column.

Another week, another set of movies. Hard to believe it’s already nearly November when the Oscar-bait starts being dangled, and unless you didn’t see any movies last week, I’m sorry to say it’s a good week to stay home or do something not movie related.

The first of the wide releases this week is Amelia starring the swanky Hilary Swank in a movie that almost no one was waiting for. This biopic about Amelia Earhart, the first female pilot to cross the Atlantic, seems to have flown out of the Hollywood machine with every cliché and formulaic fixture intact. Currently scoring a 22% on Rottentomatoes.com, I’ll wager that it’ll probably experience some serious turbulence in the box office.

According to Reuters, Cheetah Vision has already acquired eight scripts. One of them is titled "The Dance," which will star Jackson and Nicholas Cage.

"(The script) was previously passed around a little bit but both me and Nicolas Cage had an interest in the film so it will still happen. He plays the founder of a boxing program, and I play a fighter who goes to state prison," 50 Cent told Reuters.

Jackson also said he's not really worried about starting Cheetah Vision amid a struggling economy. The man's got plenty of money, and he said he'll make sure to back the whole thing financially.

Another project 50 Cent recently wrote and directed is "Before I Self Destruct," a drama that will be released with his new album in March.
