Omid Djalili Launches Production Outfit
British actor-comedian Omid Djalili has launched a TV, film and podcast production company. The star of The Infidel is forging Tiny Speck Productions with Infidel producer Shahin Sobhani and his “family of creatives” including producers Ara Devine, Isabella Djalili-Devine, and Louis Djalili. The company already has a scripted campus comedy series, a climate-related feature film, podcasts, and a feature documentary in development, it said. “My family and I have been working together for years, and we thought it would make sense to formalise it,” said Djalili. “I’ve always believed that when we are laughing our brains work better – we see things more clearly and feel better able to handle life’s difficult questions. It’s something we need in the world, now more than ever.” Djalili is a well-known British comedian who is a regular on the stand-up circuit and has also starred in the likes of Gladiator,...

A number of directors are pursuing litigation against the digital indie film distributor 1091 Pictures for failing to make promised revenue-sharing payments after selling their films to the platform, now owned by Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment. Helmers are scrambling to reclaim distribution rights to their work out of fear that 1091 Pictures’ parent company could declare bankruptcy.
Filmmakers say they are owed their share of distribution revenue from licensing deals with 1091 but Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment has not come through with payments. Some have taken the company to court, including small-claims court, to press their cases.
Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment acknowledges that the company, which also owns Redbox and Crackle, has faced “cash flow issues,” as CEO Bill Rouhana told Variety. The company already disclosed that it was unable to file its third-quarter earnings information on time.

Exclusive: Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, whose subsidiaries include specialty film distributor Screen Media, is acquiring 1091 Pictures.

It bought Screen Media in 2017 and plans to combine 1091 with that existing business unit.
Sony launched 1091 as a film and TV subsidiary of The Orchard in 2015. It rebranded as 1091 in 2019.

1091 Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to “Varginha: The Roswell of Brazil,” James Fox’s follow-up to “The Phenomenon.”
The film is another exploration of potential extraterrestrial encounters, this one centered on a series of events in 1996 when citizens of Varginha, Brazil, reported seeing one or more strange creatures and a UFO crash. According to the description from the studio, a number of locals, including a group of girls ranging in age from 14-21, had a close encounter with a being described as about 4 feet tall, with brown oily skin, a large head and huge red eyes. The town of Varginha was cordoned off by military and emergency response teams and two creatures were captured. Local military policeman Marco Cherese died under mysterious circumstances after allegedly handling one of the creatures.

If you aren’t disturbed after you watch this documentary, you weren’t paying attention. You will Want to pay attention to this information. The new documentary The Phenomenon, directed by James Fox, starts off like any of a hundred other UFO documentaries, cataloguing eyewitness testimonies, all of whom seem credible, but in most cases, a testimony is all you get, or some sketchy photographs that could be fake, particularly in an era of pretty convincing Photoshop.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s still important to pay attention even at the beginning, as what you see is not just some dry documentary, but a case being built for what’s to come. The information flow is important, and so by the time we get to the now famous recordings taken directly from US Navy fighter planes, you aren’t surprised at the footage, but at what...

As the coronavirus-forced lockdown continues, movie studios have realized releasing new titles directly for consumers to stream and rent at home may continue to be necessary. Upcoming releases on subscription platforms and VOD range from horror films for stay-at-home Halloween to family movies for the holiday season.
While a handful of high-profile films still plan to premiere in theaters, there is a wealth of content to choose from on home viewing platforms, including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus or Apple Plus. Many more titles are available through virtual cinemas and on rental/purchase platforms such as iTunes.
October is particularly loaded with spooky new movies, including horror titles “Books of Blood” on Hulu, “Scare me” on Shudder and “A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting” on Netflix. Premiering Oct. 21, Netflix’s romantic drama “Rebecca” centers on a newlywed who is faced with the legacy of her husband’s late wife.
