- In a nocturnal and hostile Rome, Valerio must investigate the death of his estranged son, an apparent suicide.
- Valerio (Alessandro Gassmann), a dishonorably discharged ex-cop who leads an isolated and solitary life, receives news of the death of his son Ettore (Luigi Fedele) - apparently by suicide. The twosome hadn't seen each other in years and distance between had become an unbridgeable chasm.
Upon returning to Rome, Valerio discovers, thanks to the help of his ex-colleague Sara, that something is fishy about Ettore' death: too many murky events, too many inconsistencies in that investigation that was hastily shelved as a suicide.
With Sara (Maya Sansa), the woman he had loved so deeply and had never really managed to forget, Valerio undertakes an investigation to discover the truth about his son's death. A rough and tumble obstacle course to obtain justice, a struggle against everything and everyone; but perhaps, also a last chance to come to terms with his own past, as a man and as a father. A painful rebirth to re-establish a bond that not even death can break.
