A brilliantly funny dark comedy - this is a "Classic of the Future"
lastofthegangtodie30 December 2008
I only became aware of this film when I started reading reviews on the Aberdeen Footy Mad website (just a viewer with me being a southerner!) The dialogue is spoken in "Doric" - north eastern Scottish dialect, but this actually adds an extra dimension to this unique comedy. The two main characters are perfect - just normal everyday blokes trying to scratch a living - until THIS day - when the farcical catalogue of errors just gets worse and worse with every move they make, leading to the ultimate conclusion. It is most definitely one of those films... the more you watch it, the funnier it gets. The language content is very strong - it contains more bad language than Goodfellas!! - but it is in good humour rather than being offensive. The dialogue between the two main characters is perfect, especially the scene where they discuss "who off the telly would you like to hit"!! I bought the film on recommendation only... and now I would recommend it to anyone - good to see such a funny film once again coming from the ever-increasing independent gang

good film
ianross620 November 2009
Well it was a pleasure to see a local Aberdeenshire film with local Doric speech, but the good acting and production was totally spoilt by the amount of swearing which took away a great deal of the enjoyment, and before the finish I would have preferred to watch without sound and still get tremendous enjoyment. I agree in reality swearing would have been part and parcel of the day but never in my experience to this degree, why did they spoil a good film like this Best wishes for their next one but please please one fit for family viewing, just watch real life to get the percentage right.

funniest thing i've seen in a long time
marybdeans6 September 2009
i have watched this about 4 times so far, with different groups of friends and even with my parents! there was just the one moment when i cringed with embarrassment- you'll have to guess which but it involved the w word...Everyone so far has loved it and i'm not exaggerating...even my 2 English friends got all the dialogue- no subtitles needed even if it is in that quaint Scottish dialect known as doric. the record for sweariest movie is well deserved but that only adds to the humour and some of the location shots , particularly at the start, are quite literally breathtaking. what else can i say without giving the game away? its 2 guys in a van having one hell of a day really!

Raindance Premiere
bill-howie42720 October 2008
I saw this movie at the Raindance festival in London and I, along with most of the audience, thought it was a very funny film indeed. The set up is basic. 2 Scottish removals men accidentally murder a van load of innocent folk.

So far, so good. The slapstick nature of the killings is quite fun in itself. But the real source of the comedy is the fantastic script and great performances from the 2 lead actors. Watching these guys 'going mental' at each other is very funny! Sure the ascents are amazingly broad - but that just seemed to help the film be even funnier! I loved this film! All out funny and all the better for it!

Quite simply an excellent piece of film-making. The film is a non stop riot from beginning to end.

Quite simply an excellent piece of film-making. The film is a non stop riot from beginning to end. Based in Aberdeen, Scotland it is the story of two removal men who's apparently easy day turns out to be an absolute nightmare. Lot's of swearing, lots of un-intentional dead bodies and by heck a barrel load of laughs to wash it all down. The local dialect mentioned in previous reviews is Doric, it is native to the North-East of Scotland and actually isn't that difficult to pick up, thankfully as an Aberdonian I don't have a problem. Don't be put off by the dialect, this film is a riot! I would highly recommend purchasing/viewing this film.

Fantastic. Enjoyed "The Planet" loved "One Day Removals"
rickdink12 January 2009
Well I know its maybe a bit much to give it 10 as nobody's perfect, but they don't do 9.9! I do think that "One day Removals" is excellent, coming from Aberdeen myself and being brought up in "tcheuchter" country (Inverurie). I fully appreciated the Doric and Aberdeenshire accents in the film. Great to see some fantastic shots of Aberdeen and lesser known areas surrounding Aberdeen. The plot is fantastic, a simple idea made brilliant by great comedy acting by all members of the cast especially Patrick and Scott. Two guys struggling by to make a living, end up in a bit of bother when their first job of the day goes a little wrong when an accident leaves them with a "package" to dispose of. With one thing going wrong after another you cant help but feel sorry for them but laugh at the same time! Thoroughly enjoyable by all adults who don't mind a "bittie O' sweerin" (or a lot of swearing which is acceptable as it makes the North East Doric sound that much more authentic. Another great film by Stirton Productions!

Superb film
billystephen20025 January 2009
I spotted this film being discussed on an Aberdeen football message board and clicked on the links to you-tube for the preview of the film. As soon as this film was released on DVD i decided i must buy it and i was not disappointed.

This film is possibly one of the funniest i have ever seen, it is good for a local lad like myself as very few Scottish films feature our native Doric accent, which in my opinion makes the film what it is. The story line is simple yet well told and you just don't know whats going to happen next.

A must have for any Aberdonian or folk with an interest in Scottish comedy. The sooner this film is previewed in cinemas the better.

Wonderful and funny
peterlorre25 January 2009
I too come from Aberdeen,i was given this DVD by my brother and it sat in my cupboard for ages.Didn't realise i had one of the funniest films i have watched in years, don't say this often but laugh out loud,OK the accents are local but anybody from outside this area should still watch it.The interaction between the two leads is brilliant,a lot of swearing,no i mean A LOT,this just adds to the humour of the script.

Its good to see a lot of well known landmarks but the secret of the film is the day could start like this for millions of people everyday, its only when the first incident happens that things soon get totally out of control, stay with it right to the end as the ending sums up the luck of the two removal buddies.Thank you Bro.

One Day Removals

Dear Mark Stirton,

I just had to tell you that my partner and I have watched this amazing film at least a dozen times !!!! It is excellent and I just wish everyone could know about it. Being regular movie moguls we have watched films such as 2012 , Clint Eastwood movies, Stallone, Jolie the lot !! And while all great productions I have to say that One Day Removals is in a class of it's own.

The fact that Andy and Ronnie are one without the other (what a combination) we cannot think of Andy without Ronnie !! The dialogue is excellent and the whole formatting of the film is both interesting and artistic, I especially admired the way in which you had depicted the media reporting this crime all in small snips with excellent music. Let's face it there was real horror going on people were being fatally injured at yet you managed to show humour throughout even to the last scene in prison when Ronnie yet again innocently kills a prisoner by slamming the cell door. Patrick and Scott are a credit to you and you are an amazing producer. Its a pity that you hadn't done a series with these guys as I think it would put viewing figures through the roof.

All the best to you and an amazing crew.......................oops and we will never forget that day !!! Or the Big BLOO VAN....................

Miss Caroline Green Paisley.

Shocking language!!!
angryangus19 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Have to say that I find bad language on-screen offensive..really offensive. I swear like a trooper myself but generally find that scriptwriters and directors use swearing for 'padding' a movie or for 'street-cred'....but to me it's just pure laziness.

I also have to say that this is the funniest film I have ever watched.... ..I mean it! The scene on the bridge was so funny it hurt my hernia! And the London copper's incredulity also cracked me up! He was convinced he had a killing-crew under arrest because of the evidence against them, but with their obvious lack of villainous phsycopathy they had him sitting on the fence eventually.

Because the film made me feel like a third man in the removals crew, the swearing became what it was...genuine between blokes.

Mark Stirton and all the actors & crew deserve huge plaudits for making a superb film that unfortunately won't be seen by a massive audience because of the dialect and the language.

The Yanks may complain about the accents or lack of subtitles but we Brits don't complain or ask for subtitles for their movies where the dialect is pure Southern or from the Ozark's etc....we just re-tune our hearing... ..it's dead easy y'know.

Super bit of filming and black Comedy
misteryoungie12 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Just when you think things can't get any worse.........they can for this dastardly duo and it's not over until the fat lady sings.

This film is right up there with Trainspotting, Twin Town and Shallow Grave, I feel. Some fantastic one-lines and anyone who's lived in Aberdeen will feel close to home, particularly those like myself who have worked off-shore, as the opening scene shows the docks in Aberdeen, even the Haudagain roundabout gets an honorable mention, not to mention the Brig O Don. If you like black comedy this is certainly a film for you with some great one liners "Am geyin' haime, am having a McDonald's and a w**k!!!" Classic stuff. Well done Mark Stirton. Too bad I'd not heard of this film before.
