The Pink Panther in paradise
'The Pink Panther' "Pink Paradise" (1969)
Opening thoughts: All the previous years' batches were on the whole very solid, with a very high number of good cartoons and mostly more than that. Only a few disappointed. 'Pink Paradise' sees the 1967 batch back on track. The 1967 batch was also generally a solid year for the Pink Panther series, with plenty of things that make the series as good as it is at its best present and with little wrong. The little there is that is wrong didn't come over as massive issues. Not one of the best of the series, a long way from one of the worst as well.
Bad things: It isn't perfect. The ending did feel rushed.
One may/will wish that there was more of Pink.
Good things: However, Pink is still a cool fun character, as well as easy to like, and the story allows his personality to be played to its strengths. And thankfully he does have strong support characters, the little hunter man is an amusing adversary but the dog especially with the howl steals the show. The animation wisely keeps things simple, considering that the Pink Panther cartoons are simple to begin with.
The colours are also beautiful and everything is drawn in a way that is not too sparse or static. The music is jazzy and catchy, with the theme tune still not losing any of its timeless value. There are enough gags to keep things going and they all work, being cleverly timed and never less than amusing. The story is simple and perhaps a little on the predictable side but kept at bay by the gags and the zippy pacing.
Closing thoughts: Overall, entertaining and worth recommending even if it lacks that extra something to be one of the best.
8/10.
