The Pink Panther at the gym
'The Pink Panther' "In the Pink" (1967)
Opening thoughts: After such a strong run with the previous three 1967 Pink Panther cartoons, 'In the Pink' was a slight disappointment. While still managing on the whole to be pretty enjoyable. The Pink Panther cartoons as indicated already are always interesting at least to watch, not all of them are great (particularly the later cartoons) but most make for great entertainment and the best cartoons are wonderful. 'In The Pink' is nice enough, but it doesn't see the Pink Panther at its best by any stretch.
Bad things: Its story is somewhat formulaic with a couple of spots that were lacking in energy, and not all the gags work. Some do, the boxing ball gag is the best of them and it is hugely amusing in its absurdity.
Others don't with the shadowboxing jokes forced and predictable (also a couple are obscure to the extent that even an adult might be at a risk at not getting them).
Good things: However, the animation is detailed with some simple but very elegant-looking colours. The music is infectious in its upbeat jazziness and the theme tune for one so iconic has great staying power and doesn't annoy. While there are a couple of pacing lulls, 'In the Pink' generally moves briskly and there are a lot of gags at least, though admittedly their effectiveness is a mixed bag.
Furthermore, the little man is a funny and suitably bemused adversary, and Pinky is still charming and cool with great and wholly natural comic timing.
Closing thoughts: All in all, not one of the Pink Panther's finest hours but nice to watch.
7/10.
