The Matrix cast and crew revolutionized movies 25 years ago with a mesmerizing story and cutting-edge technology. Directed by the Wachowskis, The Matrix became a surprise hit in 1999 and launched a franchise that extended to movies, comics, and video games.
Keanu Reeves gave a career-defining performance as Neo, paving the way for his status as a bonafide action star and fan-favorite actor. His supporting cast in The Matrix included Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne, and Hugo Weaving. Together, they delivered a movie that influenced a generation of filmmaking and holds up 25 years later. The Matrix may have been a surprise then, but now it’s no wonder the cast remains active in movies and TV.

Michigan five-piece Liquid Mike have released a riffy new single, “American Caveman,” ahead of their upcoming album, Paul Bunyan’s Slingshot.
On “American Caveman,” the group — which we named one of our artists to watch this year — juxtaposes their signature, hook-heavy sound with devastating lyricism about death, dying, and general malaise. It’s what your favorite small-town hero has been saying all along: there is no American Dream. Stream the track below.
Co-founded by Mike Maples and Monica Nelson (synth/horns/vocals), Liquid Mike also includes guitarist Dave Daignault, bassist Zack Alworden, and drummer Cody Marecek.
Paul Bunyan’s Slingshot is due out on February 2nd and marks the follow-up to Liquid Mike’s 2023 power-pop record, S/T. In a statement about the new album’s title, Maples said, “I’ve always thought it was funny how many Midwest towns claim to be the home of Paul Bunyan or have...

Although nowadays his style has changed completely, Brillante Mendoza became famous for his non-stop, documentary-like filmmaking that deals with life in the slums in a way that is both realistic and entertaining. “Slingshot” highlights these elements to the highest degree.

The movie opens in the most in-your-face fashion, with a police raid in a shanty town in Quiapo, in one of the poorest slums in Philippines, that is implemented here in order to show as many aspects of Filipino society as possible. The policemen talk somewhat politely but are definitely forceful as they are searching for a series of particular young people, with their raid bringing them across gay men having sex, Muslims, a couple having sex, drug addicts, thieves, Catholics, while a moment before a number of people cautioned the inhabitants of the area about the raid. The news comes a day after Amazon revealed it will be taking studio space at Pinewood’s Shepperton Studios in a multimillion pound 10-year deal. The first wave of apprentices will start in May and the second in September.

Nordic streamer Viaplay is partnering with filmmaker Mikael Håfström to produce the ambitious period film “Stockholm Bloodbath.” The female-led epic adventure movie will mark the service’s second English-language film original, following Oscar-nominated helmer Lasse Hallström’s biopic “Hilma,” which will premiere later this year.
Set in 1520, “Stockholm Bloodbath” explores a dark chapter in Sweden’s history, which saw the infamous massacre of nearly 100 nobles and civilians in the Swedish capital.
