Dana is failing Biology. To pass she must attend an extra credit assignment with several classmates that will lead them into a remote region of the Great Dismal Swamp, a place teeming with life… and death. For the top of the food chain lives in a dingy cabin not too far from their campsite, and he has an appetite for human flesh.

I can't help it, I'm a sucker for intriguing key art that coincides with a horror film (or any movie for that matter). Many films have been overlooked simply because the graphic art totally sucks. This is not one of those cases (as you can see by the creepy poster we've got for you to feast your eyes on).
On May 1st, Phase 4 Films will reportedly be unleashing a flesh eating clown among other scary visuals, as the release of Scary or Die hits VOD.
Scary or Die stars horror genre actor Bill Oberst Jr. (Abraham Lincoln vs Zombies, Dismal, Scare Tactics), Corbin Bleu (Galaxy Quest), and Nikki Moore (Sorority Row), and is directed by Bob Badway, Michael Emanuel, and Igor Meglic.
Check out the teaser trailer below the official details below as well as the large version of the Scary Or Die poster.

Well, this is surreal. Opening the mail box this week produces a lifelike severed ear! This product, seen left, is taken from a mold of actor
Bill Oberst Jr.'s actual ear. Squishy, blood-coated and attached to a piece of gore encrusted twine, this is the horror fans ultimate collector's item. As well, each prosthetic, from make-up artist Simpat B., comes with a signed photo that says: "I certify that this is my actual severed ear!" The shock does not end there.
This fan received another picture of Bill Oberst Jr. probably taken from the film Dismal with Bill offering his trademark: "you got Dale's word on that!" Here is hoping that Dale does not make a pitstop near here with his sneering mug. Also, The only thing more menacing than Bill's picture is the quality of this piece. It feels like a freaking ear! Here is an early preview of an upcoming independent thriller titled Resolution. The plotline is as follows: a drug addicted friend, Chris (Vinny Curran) is helped by Michael (Peter Cilella), when Chris has reached rock bottom because of his addictions. A forced drug withdrawal is the prescribed order of the day. Then, something mysterious begins to take place. A spirit seems to haunt the premise, demanding a "story." Strange tapes and pictures turn up, as Michael searches for answers to bizarre comings and goings.
Resolution was completed with a modest budget, under a 100K and the film stars Peter Cilella, Zahn McClarnon (Repo Chick) and Bill Oberst Jr. (A Haunting in Salem) . A release date has not been announced, but horror fans of indies will enjoy the first trailer for the film below. However, this is a restricted clip for strong language, drug use and tone. Bill Oberst Jr. Veteran horror actor Bill Oberst Jr. (Vivid, Scary or Die, Dismal), who has carved out a stake as the go to guy for playing horror movie villains, killers and rapists, attempts to bring some dimensionality to his resume by taking on a thoughtful turn in the indie psychological horror thriller short Overtime.
Overtime is the story of a factory worker, played by Bill Oberst Jr., whose mental and physical health has begun to decline with his lack of sleep. He is haunted by his past and during the course of an ill-timed graveyard shift, he comes to be haunted by images familiar and unfamiliar as he attempts to come to terms with what his life has become. Guided through the night by a Boy from his past, played by Andy Scott Harris, he will relive the moments he tried so hard to forget and will be forced...

Corbin Bleu I never thought in my lifetime that I would be running a post talking about a horror film starring both Corbin Bleu (High School Musical) and Bill Oberst Jr. (Dismal). The two seem so completely opposite of one another. Corbin Bleu was this cute little kid in High School Musical. Bill Oberst Jr. is a frightening, iconic indie horror film actor of such films as Dismal, Vivid & A Haunting in Salem. The two team up together to star in the new horror themed anthology "Scary or Die".
I have to say when I initially heard about the project, I was expecting something family friendly cause of Corbin's background, but it seems that Scary or Die is the full throttle horror that genre fans crave. It also appears that Scary or Die is a solid chance for Corbin to be seen as an adult actor. This masterfully done teaser...

Dismal (Gary King, 2009)
There are three basic types of low budget independent films. There are the small personal films that showcase the personal vision of the filmmaker. No one sees these unless they helped pay for them.
The second group is made up of the films that go for the shock and awe to get their audience. They’re the ones that cross the line to get attention and notoriety. His honorable Lloyd Kaufman of Troma has made an art form out of this tier.
The third type of indie film, at least when it comes to genre pics, is the type that ignore that they have no budget and just set out to make a movie no matter what. They tend to play by the same rules as big Hollywood flick but only cost a fraction of the budget. Whether they succeed or not is really up to the viewer,...

Bill Oberst Jr. When it comes to horror films involving characters being provocatively chained up, usually you think it's the women being chained up. The most mainstream effort in that type of film would be something along the lines of Hostel: Part II. Welll, in director Waide Arron Riddle's latest effort, Something Wicked Dwells, they flip that upside down by creating equal opportunity employment for the men to get down and to get chained up instead. Making it so the women can take a break for the moment! Victims in this lineup include character actor Bill Oberst Jr. (Dismal), the male version of Debbie Rochon, who will have to think up of a way to escape or get dragged to the depths of Hell instead.
A nightmarish vision of horror from writer/director Waide Aaron Riddle, Something Wicked Dwells has been described by the director as "a Renaissance painting in hell.

Bill Oberst Jr. Dubbed the male version of legendary scream queen Debbie Rochon by this very site, horror film actor Bill Oberst Jr. (The Devil Within, Dismal, Vivid) has just been cast in Chad Ferrin's (Someone's Knocking At The Door) latest horror film production of 333 (originally titled Tormented Souls) from Illusion Film Studios.
333 is about a couple on a romantic roadtrip who spend the night at an eeire honeymooner's retreat. They soon suspect the place is haunted. ...Or could it possibly be that the creepy caretakers are up to something far more sinister?
In 333, Bill Oberst Jr. will play a shadow man with goat eyes who torments the main character, Amy, as he pursues her at supernaturally high speeds, all the while whispering sweet nothings in her terrified ears like "You're gonna burn Amy!" Think back to Robert De Niro (Heat). Think back to Al Pacino (Scent of a Woman). Robert De Niro was known for his intensity. Al Pacino was known for his flashy screen presence. Now think of veteran character actor of horror films, Bill Oberst Jr. (Dismal, Vivid, The Devil Within). Bill Oberst Jr. has both the flash of Pacino and the intensity of De Niro. It's the best of both worlds in one package. And directors and producers are taking notice. In less then four years, Bill Oberst Jr. has had well over thirty film credits. Since he works his fair share in the horror genre, he is often seen playing the villain or the creepy guy or even, on occasion, the rapist. However, Bill Oberst Jr. wants you to know that their is more to him then just that. That he has an extra layer of dimensionality. That he's not just one note.

*Full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Gary King.
**Some spoilers be here.
Director: Gary King.
Writer: Bo Buckley.
There is something that happens to you after reviewing hundreds of horror films. One becomes desensitized to the violence, but an individual also becomes less tolerant of films that do not break any type of mold. Dismal is one of these films whose qualities put the flick firmly in the horror genre; yet, there is lots of repetition here. Tried and true lines are delivered in Dismal, such as "we'll be right back," and "why are you doing this?" (Dismal). Other tropes deliver the overused mantrap, a hooded killer, and a family of cannibals. Some of the elements have been used in countless horror films before e.g. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jim Gillespie's Venom and Dismal does not break out of the box of horror cliches.

I’d be lying if I told you I’ve never experienced a period of academic overextension at some point or another. In this regard, the predicament Dana (Lydia Chandler) faces in Dismal (on DVD from Cinema Epoch) provided a kind of instant sympathy. The class in which she’s stuck, and that she can’t stand or care to invest in, is Biology, and the option of extra credit becomes something of a desperate necessity. The movie, then, could be a forewarning about the perils of procrastination, with some pertinent circumstances. But for now, I’ll turn off my imagination (as the movie commands us) and get to telling what actually happens.

To market themselves, all actors need to know their type: blue-collar or white-collar, sexy teacher, nerdy bus driver, or sweet little old lady. When Bill Oberst Jr. left the New York stage to make his way in Hollywood, he was surprised to discover that the camera saw him in a whole new way."I'm terrifying," Oberst says, laughing. "I had no idea I was terrifying before I came out here, but I am. It's really weird. The camera sees faces differently than the eye does. I've had people say, 'Oh, you don't look creepy to me,' but then when I get on camera, boom, there it is. So once I narrowed it down to that sort of niche and found out that I was Mr. Creepy, I work a lot. I've had to develop camera techniques to go with my face."Happily, Oberst enjoys doing horror films. "I did a movie called 'Dismal,...
