When this movie was first aired on the History Channel (US), the moment when the character of Neil Armstrong puts his foot on the moon was timed to within a minute of the 40th anniversary of Armstrong actually stepping on the moon.
The conversations between Armstrong, Aldrin and mission control after Commander Armstrong began descending the ladder of the lunar module were the actual voices of the astronauts on July 20 1969 and not those of the actors playing them. The actors simply mouthed the words when they were in frame.
"Moonshot" was also the title of a fictional film mentioned in Tropic Thunder (2008) where-in Robert Downey Jr.'s character Kirk Lazuras played Neil Armstrong.
