After spending untold amounts of cash on hundreds of dramas and comedies — most of which will never make it to your living rooms — the five broadcast networks will begin announcing in New York next week which projects are good enough to earn a coveted fall pickup. (NBC and Fox will present their fall schedule to advertisers on Monday, followed by ABC on Tuesday, CBS on Wednesday and the CW on Thursday).
Buzz is already strong for several projects (for more on the hot ones, click here). But every year, we always wonder what diamond-in-the-rough was left on the cutting room...

And they’re off! Casting is all but completed and production has already begun on scores of pilots for the five broadcast networks. But not every comedy and drama will go the distance. Which project has the right stuff? What pilot already has you feeling like you popped a Lunesta? Check out the mammoth slate for fall consideration. (And remember, all projects are whittled down in late April/early May before the nets present their fall slates to advertisers in New York):

Robin Lippin on Gerard Butler: I was casting "Attila," the miniseries, and it was an extremely hard role. We had to find someone who could carry the mini and have charisma and yet be able to exude leadership and a barbaric quality. He also had to have an amazing body and good looks (it is TV, after all). Gerry had been referred by the CD in London, and I brought him in. I felt he had it all, but the executive at the time wasn't convinced. He wanted me to keep looking and told me to go to Crunch, the gym where all the hotties worked out. I wanted to die. I mean, this was a powerful role and needed an amazing actor. I think the exec was worried about his accent.I fought really hard for him, and luckily the director and producers were behind him. I even offered to...

The movie has seen financing come and go and return again, and the cast has gone through Tetris-style combinations with names including Jessica Alba, Christopher Walken and Blythe Danner circling.
Financing is being finalized, but the movie produced by Michelle Chydzik is slated to go before cameras April 19 in Louisiana. Nathalie Marciano is executive producing the picture, whose title might change to "Keep It Together."
The story centers on a newlywed marriage counselor (Moore) who is thrown for a loop when she learns that her parents, whose marriage she's always idealized, are headed for divorce. Casting director Jami Rudofsky has one word of advice for the auditioning actor: relax. "Don't be nervous," she says with a laugh. "I'm a totally regular person. I'm there to help you get the job." Rudofsky can also empathize with the jittery performers sitting across from her: She was once an aspiring actor, studying theatre at UCLA. "About halfway through, I realized that it wasn't the path I wanted to take," she says. "I didn't like auditioning. I knew I wasn't going to be successful as an actress, but I really loved acting, so I wanted to find something that was like it." An internship with CD Vicki Rosenberg (Bones, Joan of Arcadia) set Rudofsky on a new career track. She fell in love with the casting process, started working in the industry the day after graduation, and hasn't looked back. These days she has nearly a decade and a half of casting experience,...
