Tony Angelotti is a renowned stunt performer who has worked on several high-profile projects, including the Pirates of the Caribbean films. He served as Johnny Depp‘s body double in the movies and performed some of Jack Sparrow’s most memorable stunts in the series. However, according to Angelotti, there was one stunt he did that left Depp “extremely angry.”

Keira Knightley was only 17, going on 18, when she became an international star with 2003’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” But in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar U.K., the Oscar nominee said playing an object of desire like Elizabeth Swann at such a young age left her feeling “stuck” and “constrained” in the industry.
“I had quite an entrance into adult life, an extreme landing because of the experience of fame at a very early age,” Knightley said. “There’s a funny place where women are meant to sit, publicly, and I never felt comfortable with that. It was a big jolt.”
“[Elizabeth Swann] was the object of everybody’s lust,” Knightley continued. “Not that she doesn’t have a lot of fight in her. But it was interesting coming from being really tomboyish to getting projected as quite the opposite. I felt very constrained.

While fans wait to see if Johnny Depp will return to Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as Captain Jack Sparrow, Orlando Bloom says he’d like to know what his beloved character, Will Turner, has been getting up to after all these years. Speaking with Parade about the second and final season of Amazon‘s Carnival Row, Bloom said it would be fun to revisit his blacksmith’s apprentice-turned-pirate character.
“Oh gosh, you know, I did get to go back and play Legolas in The Hobbit, which was ten years later. I was like, ‘This is a lot of fun,'” Bloom said about restringing his bow and perking up his pointy ears to play the fair-haired archer. “Because he’s such a great space to be in, and I think Will [Turner from Pirates of the Caribbean]—I mean, Will’s so great,” Bloom said. “I wouldn’t mind...

Before we even knew there was such a thing as the ‘Cornetto Trilogy’, there was just…Shaun of the Dead, a remarkably fresh, funny and surprisingly sweet take on the zombie genre unlike any we had seen before. Along with Zack Snyder’s remake of Dawn of the Dead and Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later – yeah, we know, not a real zombie movie – it helped reignite interest in the brainless ghouls known as zombies, and the undead are still rockin’ and rollin’ to this day.
Coming from the British trio of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Shaun was a continuation of sorts of the splendid U.K. comedy series Spaced, which was pretty much an unknown commodity at that point for most of us. Shaun was a genre fan’s dream, and it seemed like a very tough movie to top, so the pressure was on Edgar...

The first "Pirates of the Caribbean" film may now be regarded as a seminal piece of blockbuster filmmaking, but there was a time when many filmmakers wrote off the risky endeavor. In an era when it seemed pirates were no longer apt for the big screen, the Gore Verbinski-helmed movie wanted to reshape the theatrical landscape and give the genre an exciting, original tale. The ambitious mission was led by Johnny Depp's (career-defining) role as Jack Sparrow, but that aspect was also questioned before the release of "The Curse of the Black Pearl." And that's not all — even the creative talent behind the project was doubtful of the film's success.
Hans Zimmer, who composed music for four films of the long-running film series, was especially skeptical when Verbinski pitched him the idea of scoring the first installment. The composer had good reason to be dubious about joining the first "Pirates of the Caribbean,...

Throughout the 2000s, there was a bit of a trend of studios greenlighting multiple movies in a franchise at once and having them filmed back-to-back to avoid any long gaps in releases. "The Lord of the Rings" was the most obvious example, with all three films being made at once and released one year after the other. The first two "Matrix" sequels were also produced back-to-back and were released with only a six-month gap between them. By the time "Revolutions" was released, it was clear that this strategy had diminishing returns: both "Matrix" sequels ended up feeling messy and incomplete. They felt like two halves of a single movie, and as a result neither of them really worked on their own.
The first two sequels of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise were a little bit more successful. They weren't as critically acclaimed as the series' first entry, but they...

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise is no stranger to cool cameos. After all, they had Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards play Jack Sparrow's (Johnny Depp) father in "At World's End" and "On Stranger Tides." In fact, he was set to come back for "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales." Considering Depp has said a number of times that he based the character of Jack Sparrow on Richards, it made total sense to have the man himself as Papa Sparrow.
As we know, however, Richards didn't return for the 2017 film, which was directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg....

It’s summer and the sheer amount of cash being generated on a non-holiday weekday is clearly showing that.
In the wake of scoring the best Memorial Day opening of all time at the domestic box office with 160.5M, Paramount/Skydance’s Top Gun: Maverick didn’t let up yesterday grossing 15.8M. While that’s the third best Tuesday in May stateside after Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War (23.4M; May 1, 2018) and The Avengers (17.6M, May 8, 2012), it’s easily the best Tuesday in May for a non-Marvel movie; the comic book franchise continually dominating the month. Top Gun 2‘s Tuesday is also ahead of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, that pic making 12.6M on May 10. In regards to the previous biggest Tuesday in May for a non-Marvel movie, that belonged to Disney’s Aladdin with 12M on May 28, 2019.
Top Gun 2‘s Tuesday was 53 off its Memorial Day Monday of 33.8M.

Tuesday Am Update: The Tom Cruise Paramount/Skydance sequel goes to an even higher stratosphere with a 4-day 160.5M Memorial Day opening record. Global is at a 300M start. Important to note that given the whole thing of rolling the 13.2M Thursday previews of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End into its opening weekend, that movie still has the 3-day over Memorial Day weekend with 127.97M to Top Gun: Maverick‘s 126.7M.
Monday Am Update: Paramount/Skydance’s Top Gun: Maverick has beaten Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End fair and square for the Memorial Day opening 4-day record (+ previews) at the domestic box office with 156M. While easily Tom Cruise’s best opening of all-time, producer Jerry Bruckheimer is the common denominator of the two largest Memorial Day weekend openings at the domestic box office.

Action film delivers after multiple Covid-related delays.
After multiple Covid delays and last week’s European premiere in Cannes preceded by a show-stopping flyover above the Palais des festival, Top Gun: Maverick delivered the goods in North America and is heading for an estimated 151m record four-day Memorial Day opening weekend.
The number, which includes an estimated 124m over the Friday to Sunday portion of the US public holiday, becomes the biggest debut for star and producer Tom Cruise – no mean feat – as well as producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s second biggest debut in another impressive mark.

Bill Nighy (Love Actually) has been tapped to star opposite Chiwetel Ejiofor and Naomie Harris in Showtime’s The Man Who Fell To Earth drama series, based on the Walter Tevis novel and the cult classic 1976 film starring David Bowie. Nighy will take over the role played by Bowie in the film.
Showtime’s The Man Who Fell To Earth, which comes from Alex Kurtzman, Jenny Lumet and John Hlavin, will follow a new alien character (Ejiofor) who arrives on Earth at a turning point in human evolution and must confront his own past to determine our future.
Nighy will play the brilliant Thomas Newton, the first alien to arrive on earth over 40 years ago. Alone and desperate, Newton summons Faraday (Ejiofor) to complete his original mission. But Newton’s time marooned among human beings has cost him everything, possibly even his sanity.
The role marks a reunion for Nighy with both Ejiofor and Harris.

Well, this is indeed strange times for Hollywood. Let’s take some time to look at movie franchise that seriously needs a comeback. Who else wants more Pirates of the Caribbean? Every time I say yes to that question, I get more disappointing films. Now I’ll confess, I’m someone who likes the first three movies. I mean, the first one is a real classic in my book, but Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End were very entertaining for me. Were they as good as Curse of the Black Pearl? Maybe not, but I thought they were very entertaining movies. And

On one hand, you can’t help but admire the loyalty and dedication of Johnny Depp‘s fans, who have constantly backed the actor throughout the last several turbulent years of his career that have seen him dropped from two major blockbuster franchises and faced with a never-ending series of legal battles, with many insiders and analysts predicting that the 57 year-old’s standing in the industry has been dealt irreparable damage.
However, on the other side of the coin, there’s a feeling that many of his supporters are veering dangerously close to fanatical territory. As well as the various petitions to have him reinstated as Pirates of the Caribbean‘s Jack Sparrow while also attempting to have his ex-wife Amber Heard fired as Aquaman 2′s Mera, the Animaniacs revival faced backlash from a vocal minority for an out of date reference to a meme that was interpreted as a crack at Depp’s expense,...

It might seem strange to think in retrospect, but when Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was first released, it was not forecast to be much of a success. Defying such low expectations, the film went on to become the surprise hit of the summer and the fourth-highest grossing movie of 2003, after Return of the King, Finding Nemo and The Matrix Reloaded. Its popularity was largely down to Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, but during production, the studio bosses didn’t know what to make of his acting and were afraid it would contribute to the movie’s failure.

Streaming services have been doing an excellent job of keeping everyone busy as we all continue quarantining, and Disney Plus has been no exception. June was a particularly strong month for the platform with the additions of huge titles like Tarzan, Tarzan 2 and Avengers: Infinity War.
Meanwhile, July is already shaping up to be fantastic, too, with upcoming drops like the musical Hamilton, animated film Ice Age: Collision Course and classic sports movies like The Mighty Ducks and The Big Green. Of course, when Disney Plus giveth, Disney Plus taketh away, and the start of July means we’ve lost a few awesome films as well that some fans are sure to miss.
One of the biggest losses is Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Johnny Depp reprises his signature role as Jack Sparrow in this fourth installment of the popular franchise that acts as a standalone followup to 2007’s At World’s End.
