Over a decade in the making, "It's Not Repetition, It's Discipline" is a loose and untutored well-done documentary on the great Rock band The Fall centering on its complicated and interesting frontman Mark E. Smith. Focusing on interviews with band members of the time, colleagues, fans and musical luminaries influenced by the band the documentary shows a talented band whose great strength and appeal lay in its outsider and idiosyncratic nature. Smith comes across as expected - rude, strange and with the myth of his personality and legacy preceding him. Henry Rollins, Thurston Moore and John Peel are among the stars who give their interesting views on Smith and the band. Images and live performances of the band reveal.the group's power and relevance. Made by amateurs the film moves at a nontraditional pace and the lack of interviews with members from the band's glory days sell this short but the individuals involved and the music keep one on board from start to finish. Check this out if you're a fan or if you want a glimpse at one of the leading lights of Post-Punk's glory days.
