Toward the end of this episode, The Middleman exclaims, "Sweet Molly Brown!" Molly Brown was a socialite from Denver, Colorado who survived the sinking of the Titanic.
One of the scenes is set in the Edward J Smith Public School. Edward John Smith was the captain of the RMS Titanic when she sank into the icy waters of the North Atlantic on 15 April 1912.
When investigating the initial crime, the Middleman announces that he and Watson are agents Boetticher and Kennedy. Burt Kennedy and Budd Boetticher respectively wrote and directed Ride Lonesome (1959), the movie the Middleman continually attempts to see throughout the episode.
When the luxury liner sets sail, Noser turns to Wendy and says, "I think we're sailing away into the virgin sea." His line is a reference to "Come Sail Away" by Styx.
At Johny John's door the Middleman identifies himself and Wendy as Harland and Wolff. Harland and Wolff Heavy Industries built the RMS Titanic.
