I give this a 5 for effects a 4 on script mainly for the "bad guy" and Egon's dialog that's it. The rest of the script they should have burned it. Get ready for the cheese when you watch this one. Now I fully understand the meaning of cheesy and we all know what cheese is made from old milk and that's what this is. They stole lines from the original maybe to make it better in their minds. This script is trash. I read the other reviews, I am not sure what movie they saw but they must be either geeks or the actors. This insults the great creation that is Ghost busters. This is worse then that extreme ghost buster cartoon, that also sucks monkey balls. They tried I give them that, but it is painful to watch. They had the tools but no talent with this one, except for Egon they were on the money with him and the bad guy is OK he needs work though. Watch if you must see everything that is ghost busters only, otherwise skip and watch some classic ghost buster cartoons on youtube.

I have been in the special effects business for over twenty years working as an entertainment designer within the movie industry. Yes, I am a huge fan of the whole Ghostbusters franchise and I'm known within this community as Paranorman, the dude that builds proton packs and related props for Ghostbusters collectors and ghostheads throughout the world. When Hank Braxtan asked me to create the new design and to fabricate the production's Neutrino Pack for 'Return of the Ghostbusters' I said to him "well, I'll need time to think about it...HECK YEAH!"
First I was greeted with wonderful visual effects with the title sequence and shortly after, I was immediately drawn into the plot. 'Return of the Ghostbusters' computer-generated imagery were well executed and were not overpowering and the old school physical effects were well placed as well. This is one of my favorite fan films!

That would be an understatement.
Never before, in the history of fan-film-making, has there been such dedication and passion put into a film that would yield NO financial benefits whatsoever. This was a film (video, movie, whatever) put together BY fans, FOR fans, period. If you liked Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, you'd be hard pressed not to believe that this was Ghostbusters III.
The cast, those returning from 'Freddy Vs. Ghostbusters' and the newcomers, really pull this piece together. I especially thought that Wiess gave an amazing performance.
How many fan-films can boast original music? Well, Jon Vandergriff, along with a few other contributors, make this one a first! The score to this film, from the opening credits, to the ending ones, is nothing short of fantastic.
Now let's talk about the special FX. Wow. When you watch this film, you understand that it is a film made with limited money, resources, and materials, but that's the LAST thing you think when you see the FX. The crew behind the visual fx in 'Return' did their jobs, and they did it well.
I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that this is an amazing film, as both a fanfilm and a standalone film. It is better than its predecessor in every way (don't get me wrong, I love FvGB).

I actually watch both pieces by BraxtranFILM but this in particular movie was pretty good coming from an independent film, and yeah I mean with the no 3rd G.B. ever ever ever ever, you'd have to expect it to come from a huge fan. However I felt this wasn't just a fan made movie, I felt this was someone that wanted to really keep true to the Ghostbusters and what it was about. I do have to say that some of it was a bit cheesy and could of done with a bit less, or maybe it might of been some of the actors doing what they did. But I feel for the kinda budget they probably had, they did a marvelous job bring back to life one great classic.

When I think of fan films, I cringe. In fact, sequels or remakes created by professional, authorized, official production companies cause me various levels gastric distress. (I Spy, Thunderbirds, Star Trek I, War of the Worlds, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Invasion of the Body Snatchers just to name a few) Naturally I was skeptical when I started watching Return of the Ghostbusters online. But, instead of being a laughable (or unbearable) gushing, goofy fan mess, it's actually
(I can't believe I'm saying this) It's actually GOOD!!! And, good on just about every level.
They show superb understanding and respect for the original, while being able to pick up the pieces and make their own mark with the work. That ain't an easy task! The plot was interesting and original and included several character stories providing motivation and context for character actions and interactions. Apart from a good script and nice pacing, the cinematography is PDGwell framed and nicely lit, SFX, acting, comedy sense, characters all deserve special note.
The Plucky Girl Reporter is gorgeous and adorable. The boys are engaging and equally adorable. It's all great fun to watch.
I'm not saying it's Citizen Kane, but considering it's an amateur work, it's pretty impressive. Clearly these are not just a bunch of idiots with a VHS camera. They're a bunch of very TALENTED idiots with many skills (not unlike Ackroyd, Reitman, Ramis, Murray et al).
Great work folks! Hope you get to make more of these, or better yet I hope you get snapped up as professional filmmakers. Thanks!

First of all, a bit about myself as the reviewer: I have a huge respect for Ghostbusters as a brand, and as a phenomenon. I am a HUGE fan of both Ghostbusters movies with Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Sigourney Weaver in leading roles, and have a huge respect for them as actors and performers. The first movie being my favorite. I am also a fan of "The real ghostbusters" which was a cartoon, with great music, atmosphere, and good stories to help feed my Ghostbusters hunger. But of course it is the movies that I love the most. I am 29 years old. The last movie came out in 1989, and I want more..
Return of the Ghostbusters is a movie made by a group of fans of the original Ghostbusters movies (1 and 2). It is made by a group of fans, with a budget of a little under 10000 dollars or something like that.
Dan Aykroyd, "the man with the plan" has stated many times that there will not be a third Ghostbusters movie. Never ever. So a group of fans took it upon themselves to make a third one. This movie tells the story of a completely different ghostbusters unit located in Denver. I am not going to say anymore than that.
So why should you see it you say? You don't believe in fan movies, or you just don't think that this movie is up to par with the actual original ghostbuster movies? Well, for those of you who really believe that, don't see this movie. But Dan Aykroyd could have said like "maybe in the future", or "hmm would be cool to do a third one" instead of "NO" all the time. Fans tend to get a little crazy. We don't want to hear "no." We are like kids in a sense, in that we have a craving for something. Let's call it sugar. To me, Ghostbusters is sugar, and I want more. I guess that is why this movie exists. So it is any good? Well the acting is not top notch, as it is played by fans, not actors. But the acting is far from bad, and for some reason gets better as the movie progresses. Nonetheless Neil Anderson delivers a brilliant performance throughout as the "bad guy." I got a tear or three in my eye on one occasion in this movie, and I actually couldn't believe myself. This movie has managed to keep very strong to the original material, and added some new twists into the formula to honour the new decade. The soundtrack, which mixes a lot of music from the first movie, with a completely new written score which is absolutely amazing, helps that good old Ghostbusters feeling return, which has been gone a while. And last but not least, the script, and the story are very well written. The famous Dan Aykroyd did say on one occasion that there never was a third movie because the scripts were all bad.. . Well there you have it.
I recommend this movie not only to fans, but for all who are interested in movies in general. If you tell yourself that this is made by fans, and does not come from Hollywood BEFORE you see the movie, I can 100% guarantee you that you will have a good time. It only goes to show that people in general love movies, and good movies even better. I'll burn this out on a DVD, and put it on the shelf with Ghostbuster 1 and 2, and write a big 3 on this one. As a die hard fan of the ghostbusters I was blown away when I saw Freddy VS Ghostbusters. I told my friends and family about it and showed the film to everybody who would watch. When I heard a follow up film was being produced my expectations were pretty high. I was absolutely floored when I watched the Return of the Ghostbusters. This film is Hank Braxton's Rocky Balboa to the film industry's Apollo Creed begging for just one chance, one opportunity to shine. While lacking the fanfare and budgets of a major movie production, what this movie does bring to the table is tons of heart and an obvious love for both the craft of film making as well as a love for the source material. Return of the Ghostbusters improves upon Braxton Films' earlier Ghostbuster fan film in every category: Cinematography, Acting, Scenery, Pacing, Casting, Effects, Audio, Script -- the list goes on. If you have ever even been so much as a casual fan of Ghostbusters, consider yourself a connoisseur of pop culture or are simply a fan of independent artists you owe it to yourself to watch this film. Rarely will a major motion picture capture the heart, dedication and love for the craft that this picture has produced in spades.

How you did it, I don't know...but that is talent.
Yes there were some flaws, not in storyline but in overall production, but on something of this caliber, that is easily overlooked.
For most part, actors had no prior film experience...and while it showed abit, is still better than any movies I've seen made in the multi-millions.
Your true talent shines...and I look forward to seeing other films by you.
I realize that this is not on DVD, but only online due to legal matters, but having a feature film on DVD should be seriously considered.
I tend to spend that amount of money in one weekend without hesitation...but you know how to really work with it.
I should be investing in your company, as you guys really have the skills that so many Hollywood writers, actors, producers, directors and crew lack.
The only parts in this movie that really didn't fit - was the bar fight scene and the odd cursing - that was really out of place along with the MILF comment.
Aside all, your special FX, costumes, score, camera work and editing were pretty damn good.
As from your resumes, most of your work comes from self produced films, it's time to breakout into a higher budget and have your work shown across the public.
I don't know how many movies I've watched where I was so unimpressed - they had major "stars", big money and all the tools available - backed up by a major production company and they still came out with something that I would not rate above a 3.
You guys have what it takes and lets hope that you never lose it.
I can only imagine what you all could do with a 20 million plus budget...
Good luck, great job and keep them rolling.

Fan films are supposed to be just that, films for the fans. Braxton Film definitely took this in to play. This movie can't be used for commercial use, for copyright laws and whatnot. The fact that they knew this, and still took the time and money to make a very good fan film is an amazing feat. I have watched many, many fan films, honestly haven't seen to many good ones, most of them, it is a swing and a miss. But with Return of the Ghostbusters, I was beyond impressed. Braxton Film put together a great movie, with great actors, a good script, great special effects, for in-house effects. It's not your Hollywood glorified CGI, but it does a damn good job. It related great with the old Ghostbuster movies, definitely made for the fans, they kept all the same Ghostbuster language, same types of equipment, etc. Definitely a great storyline, it seems like one that could've been used in a real ghostbusters sequel. Bottom line, I was impressed. Damn good job Braxton Film, I will always trust you in the future, because you make true fan films, not pathetic attempts, like most fan films out there. I enjoyed watching this movie a lot more that a lot of the crap Hollywood is putting out these days. It is nice to see someone who truly cares, and isn't just sucked in by the money. 10 stars, best Fan Film out there, hands down. Also, reference Freddy vs. The Ghostbusters, it is somewhat of a prequel. Keep up the good work, Braxton.

Having watched the film dozens of times (for studying purposes), it becomes clear that one should not expect a $144M budget type of movie. Instead, for $3,000, all the heart and fun that stretched dollars can afford are put on screen.
The film sure has its cheesy moments and it has to be expected instead of hoping for a miracle. And in some ways, this fan film is sort of a miracle in itself. You have quirky characters, a clichéd villain, the reporter (who reminded me a lot of TMNT's April O'Neil for some reason) and a few great action scenes for the tight budget they had.
The camera work is interesting and is much more determined to shoot a cool looking scene than most fan films I've seen lying around. Not that they're any bad, but it's nice to dissect them and try and see where there are a few problems, where scenes could be trimmed, etc.
This film could have used a bit of trimming or a few extra takes instead of keeping a scene where the same word can be heard two or three times. Not to be picky, it just creates a redundancy that slowly can cripple the narrative when repeated too many times. Although I'm sure these were most unintentional and they do not hinder my fun of watching it.
Knowing that this is a low budget production, I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of accuracy, the fun, the efforts to try and tell an original story, to have a few references to the original Ghostbusters while also covering its own grounds. The film does mention some of the original characters, but that's where the movie gets some of its best fun: talking about other fictional characters, thus making them seem more real, as well as the Ghostbusters name and the overall story at the same time.
It's not a Stanley Kubrick film, and it's not a Rolland Emmerich film either. It's a Hank Braxtan film. The man wrote and directed it and before that, he did the same with "Freddy VS. Ghostbusters", another fun short film featuring some of the characters seen in "Return".
For doing all this by himself, and for the fun results I still enjoy to this day, I'd say he's more than earned my eternal respect.

I have to admit, I was very leery when I somehow stumbled across this. Wife was reading the lame Sci-Fi list posted on Yahoo this morning listing fan listings of the top Sci-Fi films of all times. Couldn't remember what year Ghostbusters was released so I jumped on IMDb to check and stumbled across this little gem. I thought I would give it a shot since I had nothing to do on a lazy Sunday. I am very impressed. For a fan film, this kicked ass in my opinion. For what they had to work with and the budget available, I loved it! I will recommend this to all my friends to check out and enjoy as well. Thank You for bringing the memories of the grand eighties back, but this time on a positive note :) I look forward to checking out other works by Hank Braxtan. Job well done! P.S. I didn't even have a IMDb account before watching this, I felt that compelled to give a review and offer some encouragement to watch this film that I made an account finally after years of using this site.

I ve just seen "The Return of the Ghostbusters" and I m just in awe. I cant believe this is just a fan film. Its professional in every way! Nice acting, great effects, good storyline. The editing as the gags were on the point. I even liked the one liners! There are tons of good ideas and new features in it to keep the film interesting. For example introducing a new neutrino-pack. Anyone that ever watched one of the previous Ghostbusters-Movies should take at least a look at it. You can feel the love for the material in the movie. I d even pay to see it. Unfortunately I read they wont make another one. Please guys, the world is ready for a return of the return of the ghostbusters. I am for sure! Do us a favor and make another one ... just one more!

This movie is the best movie ever made. Director Henty Braxtan has made a film for the ages. Imagine a bunch of dudes just totally going to town on ghosts while Henty says "action". It's a marvelous site that I picture when I'm chilling at home with a bottle of Schlitz. The only way this could be better is if it had some Jimmy Buff on the soundtrack. The special effects are amazing and I know it's cause Henty directed someone else to make them that way. Henty is amazing. One time Henty actually invented a time travel machine so he could film this movie in the 80's. That is dedication. Stay tuned for the credits because Henty Braxtan will come out of your TV and give you one of his patented hand shakes.

I'm a science fiction and horror movie fan and well yes I loved the original Ghostbusters when I was a youth, but compared to the tons of fan film material that were based on the Star Wars series, this was much, much better. I was even frightened watching it, you know, the subtle way! I couldn't get my eyes from the screen!

I am a fan of this group. i loved Freddy vs ghost-busters and when i heard about the new one i couldn't wait. i saw it the day it came out and i would like to say thank u to them for making it. i give it a 10 because its nice to see the ghost-busters back. what i didn't like though was it was a little corny but i have watched it a few times and would love to buy a DVD with hours and hours of extra footage and more scenes and a long documentary about why they did it. I'm 18 and i was so into the ghost busters when i first saw it i would watch it over and over. the last thing i think the movie needed was for them to make a sequel with James Rolfe(angry nerd) as a main cast member.

I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this film. It might have been while I was bored and was looking Ghostbusters on Google, or something like that, nonetheless after coming across a film which was mysteriously titled "Return of the Ghostbusters" I read a few things about on this wonderful site and made the jump to watch it with a group of friends on a Friday night.
My review will be short and pointless to a certain degree, as I feel there is little need to write things which have already been said. Nonetheless I feel compelled to write a review about how much I enjoyed watching this film.
Irrespective of this film's paltry budget and it's existence as a non profit fan film, 'Return of the Ghostbusters' for it's 85 minute duration kept me entertained and laughing throughout.
I watch a lot of films, probably about 2 films per week at the cinema, and do often watch a lot of 'arthouse' cinema (I hate that term!) but it is often easy to forget that cinema/film's a great medium for escapism. Which ROTG truly is. Sure there are some hokey bits now and again, but if you're not laughing at them then you should be and it will be alright! I hope the director continues to make films, I think he has a bright future in film.
My review will be short and pointless to a certain degree, as I feel there is little need to write things which have already been said. Nonetheless I feel compelled to write a review about how much I enjoyed watching this film.
Irrespective of this film's paltry budget and it's existence as a non profit fan film, 'Return of the Ghostbusters' for it's 85 minute duration kept me entertained and laughing throughout.
I watch a lot of films, probably about 2 films per week at the cinema, and do often watch a lot of 'arthouse' cinema (I hate that term!) but it is often easy to forget that cinema/film's a great medium for escapism. Which ROTG truly is. Sure there are some hokey bits now and again, but if you're not laughing at them then you should be and it will be alright! I hope the director continues to make films, I think he has a bright future in film.
