Richard says he can drop a running deer at 200 paces with a crossbow. To give perspective on this: a crossbow without a modern cam and pully system fires a bolt off at about 300 feet per second; 200 paces is 600 feet; it would take 2 seconds to reach the target. Aside from the problem of predicting where a target will be when the bolt finally gets there, you have to account for drop. Gravity works on bolts in flight. To hit a target 600 feet away you need to aim at a spot roughly 64 feet above where the target will be two seconds after you fire.
