X-Men ’97 delivered one of its most devastating episodes with Episode 5, which saw the brutal deaths of multiple mutants in the nation of Genosha, while also depicting the tragic fates of Magneto and Gambit. With the estimated number of mutants that were killed still under wraps, the event, as put forth by the writer of the show, was meant to emulate real-world tragedies like 9/11 and the Tulsa Massacre.

The original Fox’s ‘X-Men’ film series cast is the cast that we will associate with some of the most popular Marvel characters in years to come. If you think about Storm it’s impossible not to conjure up images of Halle Berry, or associate Patric Stewart with Charles Xavier.
Famke Janssen, the actress behind the iconic Jean Grey portrayal is still the best live-action Jean Grey, despite Sophia Turner also portraying the character in the latter installments.
With ‘Deadpool 3’ release looming on the horizon and all the various rumors associated with former X-Men characters making a big comeback for Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU, it’s impossible not to wonder whether Famke will make an appearance as Jean Grey as well.

Saying that James Marsden rose to fame as Cyclops (Scott Summers) after he starred in Fox’s 2000 flick adaptation of the mutant team, X-Men, won’t be wrong. Playing the mutant Scott Summers, who shoots intense energy beams from his eyes, Marsden made his X-Men team debut alongside Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey, and Halle Berry’s Storm.
Despite being a prominent character in Marvel Comics, Cyclops’ role in the X-Men films was nevertheless greatly diminished. And he seemed so unimportant that the third installment of the series, X-Men: The Last Stand, could have done without him.

Kids from the '90s kids rejoice! The X-Men are back, specifically the version from the animated series. Though it's been decades since "X-Men: The Animated Series" went off the air, the new show treats it as if no time has passed.
Despite the controversial last-minute firing of the show's creator, "X-Men '97" is exactly what you'd want it to be. In his review for /Film, Witney Seibold wrote "Just like classic rock, "X-Men '97" is familiar and comforting." Indeed, this is a rare revival that truly feels like a proper continuation of the original. Sure, the animation is a big upgrade and the action scenes are spectacular, but a lot of effort was put into making the new episodes feel like they belong to the same show as the '90s episodes.

The beauty of “X-Men ’97” (currently streaming on Disney+) is that it’s more than just a nostalgia trip — it’s a very timely continuation of “X-Men: The Animated Series” that addresses today’s more complicated world while staying true to the spirit of the original. There’s a greater celebration of queer diversity (Morph has been redesigned as a non-binary shapeshifter) but also an accelerated powder keg of hate, which makes the mutants’ enemies much more formidable. This calls for drastic action, which is why the torch has been passed to former arch nemesis Magneto (Matthew Waterson) to lead the X-Men following the loss of Professor Xavier.

With a rich history as well as a complex personality, Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, the X-Men’s leader, has long been an enduring favorite. However, in the live-action adaptations of the X-Men franchise, particularly in the Fox flicks, Cyclops has been frequently reduced to a supporting role, overshadowed by other characters (particularly Wolverine).

How many of us still enjoy the good times we had on weekend mornings when we poured a bowl of cereal and turned on Fox Kids to see what Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, and the gang were up to? Well, fans are left feeling nostalgic as the first two episodes of Kevin Feige’s latest X-Men ‘97 brought back iconic characters like Jean Grey and Cyclops. Disney Plus finally started airing the much-awaited animated series a few hours ago.

Mary Shelley’s magnum opus Frankenstein might have highlighted the theme prominently with potent fright and nuance, but creators being haunted by their creations has been a recurrent motif in art and literature since antiquities. In works of merit, a thorough delineation of the topic often entails a narrative discussion of topics like the tribulations and failures involving the creative process, the pursuit of perfection, hindrances through self-doubt, the search for a creative voice, etc. Robert Morgan’s Stopmotion, a doomed, grotesque celebration of everything creative, juggles all these topics and more with enough care as to not become tedious or pretentious while teetering on the midpoint of psychological and supernatural horror at the same time. By no means is it implied that the movie reinvents the genre or subverts expectations, as it mostly retreads familiar tracks while showcasing the horrors that can plague a creative mind. Stopmotion excels in acing the basics,...

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has been one of the significant characters in Fox’s X-Men films in addition to the rivalry between Professor X and Magneto. Fans have celebrated the rich and layered arc of the character throughout the films and its emotional conclusion with 2017’s Logan.

Even though Jackman is reprising the role in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, the MCU will surely have its own Wolverine in the near future. Way back in 2000, audiences watching X-Men gave a knowing chuckle when a leather-clad Cyclops asked Wolverine, “What would you prefer, yellow spandex?” At the time, even those of us who love the Canucklehead’s traditional duds understood the point. In a world where Superman’s blue and red suit disappeared from screens in 1987 and only Batman’s nipple-y but dark suits remained, the lavish X-Men costumes of the comics wouldn’t fly with general audiences.
For all the successes across the 13 films in the Fox X-Men franchise, concessions to a general audience not inundated with superheroes meant that the studio felt the need to cut some corners. Some of the revisions worked, especially the tall, handsome Aussie Hugh Jackman’s more romantic take on the short, ugly Canadian Wolverine. Others, however, left much to be desired.

“What would you prefer, yellow spandex?” When James Marsden’s Cyclops delivered that line in 2000’s X-Men, we all got the joke. The yellow spandex sported by Wolverine and other members of Marvel’s Merry Band of Mutants could never look cool in a live-action movie, which is why the black leather costumes made more sense. But even the most understanding movie-goer couldn’t help but feel a slight pang at the quip. “Yeah,” we thought to ourselves. “We would prefer Wolverine in yellow spandex.”
According to a recently-released photo from Deadpool 3, fans are finally getting their wish. We’ve long known that the third Deadpool movie will bring the Merc with a Mouth from the Fox movie universe where he began, over to the MCU. And we’ve also known that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine would be coming along for the ride, the character’s first appearance in the MCU.

Bert I. Gordon, the sci-fi director who aimed to terrify drive-in denizens of the 1950s and ’60s with low-budget films featuring colossal creatures, shrinking humans and radioactive monsters, has died. He was 100.
Gordon died Wednesday in Los Angeles of complications from a fall in his Beverly Hills home, his daughter Patricia Gordon told The Hollywood Reporter.
Highlights (lowlights?) on his B-movie résumé include The Cyclops (1957), The Amazing Colossal Man (1957), Beginning of the End (1957), Earth vs. the Spider (1958), Attack of the Puppet People (1958), Tormented (1960), The Boy and the Pirates (1960) and Picture Mommy Dead (1966).
In the ’70s, Gordon directed Vince Edwards and Chuck Connors in The Police Connection (1973) and wrote and directed How to Succeed With Sex (1970), Necromancy (1972), The Food of the Gods (1976) and, starring Joan Collins in the muck, Empire of the Ants (1977).

The latest episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law featured a pretty huge Easter egg for Marvel fanatics.
As spotted by eagle-eyed viewers, episode two (released on Disney+ on Thursday 25 August), discreetly welcomed one of Marvel’s biggest heroes into the shared cinematic universe known as the MCU.
Minor spoilers follow for She-Hulk episode two – you have been warned!
For years, the rights to the X-Men franchise had been owned by Fox, meaning the characters were unable to cross over into the MCU, which is produced by Disney. Ever since Fox was acquired by Disney in 2019, however, fans have been wondering how and when the X-Men would be making an appearance.
This year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness saw Patrick Stewart reprise his longstanding X-Men role of Charles Xavier, albeit in an alternate dimension.

In 2019, The Walt Disney Company officially acquired many of the most prominent entertainment assets from 20th Century Fox. Many percieved it as a dark day for the industry, since merging two industry titans meant thousands of people would lose their jobs, and it's scary to think that only a few corporations will control the future of the entertainment industry.
The merger did add an interesting wrinkle to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though: Among the new assets that Disney acquired was Fox's "X-Men" franchise. As it existed since 2000, Fox's X-movies were very different from the universe that Kevin Feige had helped establish at Disney's Marvel Studios. It could be exciting to see beloved characters like Charles Xavier and Magneto interact with the McU's collection of heroes, but "X-Men" fans have good reasons to be skeptical. Although there were very few clues about the future of the "X-Men...

Shout! Factory’s “Scream Factory” arm continues to release some of the most awesomely obscure and beloved horror titles ever and this coming Tuesday February 19 is no exception. Terence Winkless’ cult cockroach classic The Nest finally gets the high-definition treatment in the form of an excellent Blu-ray+DVD Combo Pack that features a commentary track from the director himself. Tasked with making a film about man-eating cockroaches, Winkless makes what is easily the very best (and probably the only) film about killer cockroaches ever made. It’s a horror fan’s dream come true. That is, if your dreams consist of a terrifying Man-Roach and a healthy dose of gore. Here at FEARnet, that’s all we dream about.
FEARnet sat down with Winkless to discuss working with Roger Corman, wrangling cockroaches in the middle of the night, and the infamous Cat-Roach.

The success of Star Wars inspired a legion of similarly themed rip-offs. Here, Rob salutes some of the best and worst…
1977 was a big year for sci-fi, given that it's when George Lucas first gave the world Star Wars. And while it's been said that George himself 'borrowed' from a lot of other films to make the original trilogy (and from a lot of poor computer games for the latter ones), there were those who jumped on the sci-fi bandwagon at the time and tried, no matter what the quality, to give us more space opera fun.

It's hard to believe, but this is what I'm doing with my Saturday night. It won't be as bad as The Client List (it's can't be. Please, God, don't let it be worse than The Client List), but it's not gonna be good. Once again, additional commentary is provided by Mrs. Tk. And we are joined by one surly cat named Little Man and one mildly retarded one named Desmond.

Since news broke that recent honorary Oscar winner Roger Corman and Syfy were teaming up to gift the world with a motion picture about a half-shark/half-octopus oceanic killing machine gone wild, Sharktopus-mania has engulfed the World Wide Web. Now comes news that a former Oscar nominee has signed on to star.
Eric Roberts was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 1985 for his role in Runaway Train. Now he's starring in Sharktopus. I smell Emmy.
Roberts stars as a research scientist who, with his talented daughter (presumably not to be portrayed by his real-life daughter Emma Roberts), develops a top secret military weapon - a hybrid shark/octopus that can be controlled by electrical implants. Seems the military is prepared to go to any length to deal with modern-day pirates. But in a shocking turn of events, the controls break down and Sharktopus goes wild. The resort beaches of Mexico...

In the world of comics, a few superstar creators have made names for themselves on both Marvel and DC Comics titles. Artist Jim Lee launched "X-Men" and went on to do a classic run on "Batman." John Byrne defined "Fantastic Four" for years before redefining "Superman" in the 1980s.
Now, some of the biggest names in film are getting the chance to do the same with Marvel and DC's biggest characters, and big-name actors like Ryan Reynolds and Natalie Portman are getting the chance to define both publishers' characters for filmgoers.
Here are five actors who have been cast in live-action roles for characters originating in both the Marvel and DC Comics worlds.
Halle Berry
Marvel Role: Storm in "X-Men"/"X2"/"X-Men: The Last Stand"
DC Role: Catwoman in "Catwoman"

At our recently concluded New York City Weekend of Horrors convention, Fango got a chance to sit down with director Declan O’Brien, who was there to talk up his eagerly awaited sequel Wrong Turn 3, now subtitled Left For Dead. The filmmaker shared the details of where fans will be able to check out the latest adventures of the bloodthirsty redneck mutants.
“I just heard before I came to New York that it has been accepted by London’s FrightFest, and it will debut there in late August,” O’Brien (pictured) tells us. “That’ll be the world premiere, and then I think—though I’m not 100 percent positive—that we’re going to be at Los Angeles’ Screamfest after that.”
As for Wrong Turn 3’s disc debut via Fox Home Entertainment, the street date is tentatively set for October 20. “I’ve already done the special features,” O’Brien says.

The seed for another remake has been planted. Roger Corman's "The Little Shop Of Horrors" is going to be updated under the direction of Corman vet and "Wrong Turn 3" helmer Declan O'Brien. "I just optioned the remake rights," O'Brien announced to ShockTillYouDrop.com this morning. "We're going to set that up as a studio feature." The director is going to be shepherded by Roger Corman and "The Bourne Identity" producer Andrew Tennenbaum "After I did this movie for Roger called Cyclops he was so happy he said, 'This is the best movie that's come through my doors in 20 years, so here's my catalogue, pick something else.'" The original "Little Shop Of Horrors" was produced in 1960 with star Jonathan Haze. This tale of a mild-mannered young man who discovers a carnivorous plant was...

In news that should divide audiences, it appears that our best buds over at Shock Til You Drop have gotten the inside scoop exclusive from Declan O'Brien who claims that he'll follow up making Wrong Turn 3 by re-upping a remake of Little Shop of Horrors. So I imagine a few of you are rejoicing at the news - because it's a cool story. A few of you are cursing the screen right now - because it's an iconic story. A few of you are questioning what a shop of horrors is and how it got so small. O'Brien got the gig after making Cyclops for Roger Corman, who was so impressed that he opened up his library of rights to the writer/director. O'Brien chose what might be the most ridiculous space-alien human-eating plant musical ever produced. As for plot details? I have a take on it you're not going to expect. I'm...
