After officially stepping down as senior members of the British royal family in March, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly shopping an idea for a new project to a variety of media companies. While the concept of their pitch is unknown, according to Variety, Meghan and Harry took meetings in June with different networks, including Bonnie Hammer from NBCUniversal. April 22, 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and as the global community comes together to fight the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the event serves as a reminder that we’re all living on this planet together.
From family-friendly features to critical conservationist documentaries, here’s a list of educational Earth Day programs to watch.
Disney+
The Disney streaming service has a slew of options, including the Disneynature Meghan Markel-narrated documentary “Elephant” and Natalie Portman’s “Dolphin Reef.”
There’s also conservation-minded feature films including “Avatar,” “Bambi” and “Pocahontas” — something for everyone in the family.
Earth Day also coincides with National Parks Week, and National Geographic has its eight-part “America’s National Parks” series, which highlights sites like The Grand Canyon and Yellowstone — places we’d definitely want to visit instead of sheltering at home. National Geographic also has over a dozen documentaries, including the premiere of Jane Goodall’s “The Hope.

Meghan Markle is making a subtle and stylish nod to hubby Prince Harry and their son, Archie Harrison. In a newly released look at the making of the Elephant movie, the Duchess of Sussex sports two gold pendants that honor the two most important men in her life. Fans of the former Suits star noticed Meghan is wearing the Vanessa Coin Zodiac necklace with a Taurus charm from Suetables, a charming Canadian brand. She layered this $39 piece of jewelry with a longer 10k gold chain and a personalized 10k gold Shirley horoscope pendant with Prince Harry's Virgo star sign. Though the Duchess made reference to her hubby and son, she didn't discuss the pair in her featurette...

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have continued their war with British tabloids, writing to the editors of The Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Mirror and Daily Express to say they are severing ties with the newspapers.
After stepping back from their royal duties, ending their reliance on public funding and moving to Los Angeles, the pair said they will no longer tolerate dealing with the tabloids because they refuse to “offer themselves up as currency for an economy of clickbait and distortion.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they will have “zero engagement” with the newspapers themselves or through their press representatives. The only line of communication will be through their lawyers where necessary.

Over the last dozen years, Disneynature, Disney’s nature documentary wing, has churned out a wide variety of films that cover all manner of the animal kingdom and its attendant environs. Some have been huge hits, like wide-ranging smashes “Earth” and “Oceans” or the beloved animal-centric offerings “Chimpanzee” and “African Cats,” while others have fizzled (remember “Ghost of the Mountains”? maybe “Penguins”?). Along the way, the dozen-strong film lineup has shored up a predictable formula that combines on-the-ground insight with a cutesy, anthropomorphized look at some of the wild’s most majestic creatures.
And when it works, it really works. Mark Linfield’s “Elephant,” the first of two new Disneynature docs pushed directly to Disney’s fledgling streaming service Disney+, is one that works. Linfield, who previously co-directed sterling Disneynature offerings “Earth” and “Chimpanzee” alongside Alastair Fothergill, is now armed with a new partner: co-director Vanessa Berlowitz, a long-time producer...

It’s about wild animals. It’s narrated by Meghan Markle. And it’s one of the first Disneynature films to be released as a Disney+ exclusive. That ought to be enough give “Elephant” a shot of pop-culture currency rare for a nature documentary, and attract some curious viewers who’d otherwise be interested in “Tiger King” or “The Mandalorian.”
Make no mistake, though: “Elephant,” premiering on April 3 on Disney+ alongside another Disneynature doc, “Dolphin Reef,” does not have the train-wreck appeal of “Tiger King.” It’s got some big cats who briefly threaten our plucky pachyderms, but no crazy people around them. And Markle, who is listed in the credits as “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex” and who came on board in return for a hefty Disney donation to the Elephants Without Borders charity she supports, is a nondescript narrator who mostly stays out of the way; if you didn’t know it was her,...

Of all the members of the animal kingdom we think of as akin to humans — chimps, dolphins, whales, perhaps (if we’re being honest about it) our dogs — elephants may be the most movingly and preternaturally aware. Because you can see how intelligent they are. You see it in a chimp’s face, too, of course, but elephants have that special pensive, lost-in-the-ages quality. These lumberingly noble, sad-eyed creatures, whose defining features — the massive ears and extended trunks — appear to have been sculpted out of modeling clay by a God who couldn’t decide whether he was making a clown or a sage, can live to 60 or 70 and are part of reverent extended families (they bond by delicately entwining their trunks). The reason we say that they “never forget” is that they carry the ancient weight of their experience in every movement and action, in every furrowed crease of their thick gray hides,...

The Duchess of Sussex has provided the voiceover – including plenty of unverifiable comment – for this sugary documentary about elephant migration
Last autumn, before she and her husband made it into their current Californian lockdown, Meghan Markle recorded the narration for this lavish new documentary from the Disneynature production unit, streaming on Disney+, her fee being a donation to the Elephants Without Borders conservation charity working in Botswana. The film shows the annual, dramatic migration of an elephant herd across the Kalahari in search of food and drinking water, moving from Botswana’s Okavango Delta in its dry season, heading for the Zambezi and the Victoria Falls: the last being an awe-inspiring phenomenon which Meghan matches with her own spectacular torrents of schmaltz. She takes to Disney-narration like an anthropomorphic duck to water. “For elephants, family is everything! In this tight-knit group, someone always has your back!”

"Two powerful stories that show just how far family can take you." Disneynature has debuted one trailer for two of their upcoming nature documentaries: Elephant and Dolphin Reef. With the current situation, Disney has decided to release both directly to Disney+ for streaming next week. Usually they release a new Disneynature movie in theaters (and IMAX) once a year in April, but now they're releasing two right away. By now, everyone knows what to expect with these nature docs. Elephant, narrated by Meghan Markle, follows an African elephant named Shani and her son Joao as their heard make an epic journey across the Kalashnikov Desert. Dolphin Reef, narrated by Natalie Portman, follows Echo, a bottlenose dolphin who can't quite decide if it's time to grow up and take on new responsibilities – or give in to his silly side and just have fun. Dolphin society is tricky, and the coral reef...

Meghan Markle will narrate the Disneynature documentary “Elephant,” which will debut on Disney Plus on April 3, the studio announced Thursday.
Earlier this year, news broke that Markle had partnered with Disney on an unspecified project after she and her husband Prince Harry announced they would be stepping back from their royal duties.
Disneynature’s announcement credited Markle as “The Duchess of Sussex,” which is likely the last time Markle will be able to claim that title; she and her husband officially step down from their royal roles on March 31.

Meghan Markle has a voiceover deal on an unspecified Disney project in return for a donation to an elephant charity.
The deal, which will benefit the conservation charity Elephants Without Borders, was signed before the recent uproar over Markle and husband Prince Harry’s plans to disengage from the Royal Family and pursue other opportunities. The Times of London reported the deal.
The voiceover deal may be a prelude to future endeavors for the family, which has trademarked the Sussex Royal brand name.
Negotiations on the couple’s exit plan from Royal duties continues. Markle is in Canada, while Prince Harry is negotiating with the Royal family.
There was a pre-existing relationship between Disney and the couple – the company gave them a watercolor Winnie-the-Pooh animation to celebrate their child Archie’s birth.
