Stars: Dominic Sherwood, Jacky Lai, McKinley Belcher III, Kai Luke Brummer, Eddie Ramos, Mampho Brescia, Soyama Mbashe, Tamer Burjaq, Nathan Castle, Rizelle Januk, Anton David Jeftha | Written by Michael D. Weiss | Directed by John Pogue
Talk about reviving a franchise from the grave! Twenty-six years (26!) after Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1996 action film Eraser comes a franchise reboot featuring none of the original cast and with two veterans of franchise reboots and Dtv sequels at the helm, director John Pogue and writer Michael D. Weiss. Yet whilst both filmmakers have experience in reboots and sequels they also have some other fantastic movies under their belts – Pogue wrote all Three of The Skulls movies (the second being a personal favourite) and Weiss penned some classic Dtv movies that went on to be staples of the early days of budget DVDs – Octopus and it’s sequel, Crocodile and US Seals 2… Yes, Eraser: Reborn has quite the pedigree.

James Nunn‘s Shark Bait earns its praise only by comparison in today’s grim state of contemporary fin flicks. Anyone could record more thrilling aquatic horrors than 2021’s Great White or 2022’s The Requin with a handheld camera, a kiddie pool, and a Street Sharks puppet. Not since 2020’s Deep Blue Sea 3 has shark cinema […]

Since Steven Spielberg formed the summer blockbuster and scared the bejesus out of crowds with Jaws back in 1975, it is fair to say that shark cinema has exponentially grown in number. Some offerings sinking into the murky depths of ineptitude but others have struck with such razor-toothed ferocity that they have found themselves ranked highly in this crowded finned sub-genre of nature attacks filmmaking. In fact, of late, there have been some very impressive offerings like Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Shallows, Johannes Roberts’ 47 Meters Down, and the underrated Deep Blue Sea 3 and found footage spin Cage Dive. Sadly Martin Wilson’s Great White does not quite raise to those higher tides but still has some thrashing thrills on offer.

Shia Labeouf may have gotten famous as a Disney Channel child star before featuring in a number of box office hits that quickly turned him into one of the fastest-rising young talents in the business, but after swearing off big budget projects, the 34 year-old has spent the last little while reinventing himself as one of the most versatile and dedicated performers around.
He may still find himself in the headlines due to eccentric behavior, but he’s recently delivered a string of acclaimed performances in films like Borg vs. McEnroe, the semi-autobiographical Honey Boy and The Peanut Butter Falcon, the latter of which led to co-star Dakota Johnson claiming that he may even be the greatest actor of his generation.
Labeouf’s latest effort sees him working again with Fury director David Ayer, with The Tax Collector marking a return for the filmmaker to his roots with a gritty street-level crime drama.

The original Tremors was one of the best B-movies of the early 1990s. After a brief but successful run in cinemas, the horror-comedy became a hit on home video (helped by truly iconic VHS cover art). Since that first film, we’ve had five sequels (and a TV show) of varying levels of quality, but the franchise is ready to burrow back into our hearts with Tremors 7, now officially titled Tremors: Shrieker Island.
The movie will, of course, see the return of the monstrous Graboids, giant subterranean worm-like creatures that detect vibrations on the surface and burst up from below to devour people. This time the conceit is that a number of Graboids have been captured by a bored billionaire desperate for some thrills. He’s transported the deadly monsters to an island resort with the intention of hunting them for sport. Something tells me that this show of hubris is going to backfire…...

With less than three weeks before U.S. theaters reopen August 21, major studios have slowed their PVOD releases. With the promise of reopening comes a shot at a profitable theatrical life, but the PVOD revolution continued apace with Liongate’s “The Secret: Dare to Dream.” It immediately reached as high as #1 on VOD charts on Friday.
The film is the very definition of a high-concept presale: A self-help book published in 2006, “The Secret” was an Oprah Winfrey Club title that sold 30 million copies. Directed by Andy Tennant (“Hitch”), it stars Katie Holmes and Josh Lucas. Gravitas Ventures and Roadside Attractions acquired it last November, and planned an April theatrical release. After the theaters closed, it moved to Roadside partner Lionsgate, which has a dedicated VOD division. It opened July 31 on PVOD at $19.99.
On FandangoNow, it landed immediately as #1 and holds the slot for the full week, despite having only three days of release.

A little less than a decade ago, the streaming service industry was small and simple to navigate. Even though Netflix was still up and coming, the company remained both a novelty and an anomaly to the film studios and their theatrical distribution network. Fast forward to now, however, and the family of streamers includes Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max and a wealth of others.
With so many subscriptions available, content is being produced and distributed at faster rates and in higher quantities than ever before. Add to that a global pandemic which has forced the world to stay indoors and work from home, and the demand for entertainment has skyrocketed even higher. Luckily for society, there’s a bunch of new stuff being made available all the time and here’s a quick overview of some of the movies that are hitting VOD and the various streaming sites this weekend.

Deep Blue Sea 3 has hit the internet, and one of the most frequent postings about it, aside from links to illicit downloads and queries of when the hell Deep Blue Sea 2 slipped into existence, are comments from viewers observing how surprisingly enjoyable they found it.
Deep Blue Sea 2 saw a shady biotech company experimenting on bull sharks to enhance their intelligence to develop mind-expanding pharmaceuticals, and ended with several of their number escaping into the ocean. This third movie takes place on an almost entirely abandoned fishing island where scientist Emma Collins and her team are researching the effects of climate change, when an assortment of stubbled manly men, led by Emma’s ex, come swaggering over the horizon as they attempt to track and capture the genetically modified predators, leading to the blue sea turning red in explosions of carnage.

It’s time to get out of the water, as Deep Blue Sea 3 has just been released. The third entry in the genetically-enhanced shark saga is set in an abandoned fishing village where a team of photogenic marine biologists are tasked with learning about the impact of global warming on great white sharks. Unfortunately for them (but awesomely for us), they come under attack from killer smart sharks who may have crossbred with the great whites.
Surprisingly, the first reviews and reactions are broadly positive. Bloody Disgusting (who I trust implicitly when it comes to this kind of thing) says that Deep Blue Sea 3 “goes all-in on a continuous ramp-up of the action. The more it barrels toward and through the climax, the more outlandish it gets. Entrails float, blood paints the town red, and things get silly,” concluding that this is “pure summer entertainment.” What To Watch echoes this,...

On July 28, 1999 Renny Harlin’s Deep Blue Sea swam into theaters and was the first big shark movie to terrify audiences. Starring Samuel L. Deep Blue Sea 3, the latest installment of one the unlikeliest and sporadically continued of horror franchises, is released on VOD today and a new clip (which you can check out over at ComicBook.com) gives us some idea of what we can expect from the killer shark threequel.
Released in 1999, the first Deep Blue Sea was set in an isolated sub-aquatic research facility where mako sharks were being experimented on, their brains being enhanced as a precursor to developing a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. Despite being the same kind of big budget, glorified B-movie that many late-‘90s blockbusters were, it’s retrospectively gained greater appreciation for its more inventive ideas and occasional surprising death.
Although a standalone sequel, 2018’s Deep Blue Sea 2 followed much the same concept, except the pharmaceutical research is far more ludicrous, creating intelligence enhancers to expand the human mind and prevent the technological singularity.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of killer shark movies. The combination of beautiful ocean scenery, attractive actors in wetsuits and giant ravenous fish is difficult to screw up so badly that it becomes unwatchable. So, that’s why I’m looking forward to Deep Blue Sea 3 when it lands on VOD later this month. Okay, it’s not going to be a cinematic classic, but its tropical scenery will at least function as escapism as we can’t do any proper travelling in the hell year of 2020.
With its release now just over a week away, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment have dropped a new clip from the movie and some stills. Sadly, the clip appears to be an exposition scene rather than a tease of the film’s shark action. The two stills fare a little better though, with one big (albeit dead) shark in pride of place.

"Those sharks have been altered, engineered! They're not sharks!" Wait, there is a Deep Blue Sea 2? When? Warner Bros has released an official trailer for Deep Blue Sea 3, another sequel in the shark action horror movie series that none of us knew was really a series. The first movie, Deep Blue Sea, opened in 1999. Then sequel came out in 2018, but it was a terrible direct-to-dvd sequel and it's utter trash. This new one looks just as trashy, just as terrible, but perhaps somewhat enjoyable in a so-bad-it's-good way. Dr. Emma Collins and her team are spending their third summer on the island of Little Happy studying the effects of climate change on the great white sharks. Their peaceful life is disrupted when a "scientific" team, led by her ex-boyfriend and marine biologist Richard, show up looking for three bull sharks who we soon learn aren't just any bull sharks...

The first trailer for Deep Blue Sea 3 ticks a lot of boxes. Its characters yell “shark!” and “get out of the water!” a team of marine professionals are clearly in over their heads; there’s an obligatory jump scare towards the end, and the big fish occasionally go ‘nom’. That’s all we need, so we’re officially on board for this next underwater adventure.
We acknowledge, though, that we may have lost you at ‘Deep Blue Sea 3‘. Indeed, the second film in the franchise arrived direct-to-video back in April 2018 as a ‘standalone sequel’ to Renny Harlin’s late-90s sci-fi horror, and really we can only assume that Darin Scott’s effort at a follow up did well enough on home release for Warner Bros to okay a third. On checking its impact, Deep Blue Sea 2 celebrated being “the only non-theatrical release to appear in the top...

In the crowded field of killer shark movies, 1999’s Deep Blue Sea lands somewhere in the middle. Its tale of genetically modified killer sharks (featuring LL Cool J) is pretty goofy, but it’s no Sharknado. It’s got at least one absolutely awesome moment though involving Samuel L. Jackson. You know the one. Anyhow, it seems the sharks are back for more in Deep Blue Sea 3.
Cards on the table, I had no idea there’d even been a Deep Blue Sea 2, so this threequel is something of a surprise. Apparently, the first sequel went straight-to-video in 2018 and doesn’t directly follow the plot of the 1999 original. Deep Blue Sea 3 will be a proper sequel to that though, building on the last film’s tale of genetically enhanced Bull Sharks that turn on their human masters.

We have a lot of love for 1999’s Deep Blue Sea, from Samuel L. Jackson’s performance to the somewhat bonkers plot. A direct-to-video sequel came out in 2018 and while it wasn’t particularly well received, a third entry in the series is now reportedly planned for Netflix.
We’ve known since last year that Deep Blue 3 is in development, and more recently that the sequel will be rated R and may be out this summer. It’s worth, then, taking a look at everything we know right now about Deep Blue Sea 3, from the plot to the cast.
First off, IMDb are listing a release date of July 28th, 2020, and as previously mentioned, the MPAA have granted the movie an R-rating.
