Before the David Tyree catch in Super Bowl Xlii and before Julian Edelman’s memorable grab in Super Bowl Li got their reputations as conceivably the two best catches in all of Super Bowl history, there was one other catch that would always and will always be mentioned in the pantheon of famous NFL post season plays. “The Catch” as it is called, was made when Joe Montana threw a prayer in the 1981 Nfc championship game to none other than Dwight Clark. With 58 seconds left in the game, San Francisco wide receiver Dwight Clark made a leaping grab in

The short story goes... During Super Bowl Xlii, played on February 3, 2008, at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, the New York Giants played the New England Patriots, who were undefeated going into the big game. With two minutes left in the game, just when it looked like Giants Quarterback Eli Manning would go down, he spotted David Tyree, the veteran special teams player, down the field, threw the ball deep, setting up one of the most memorable plays in football history - aka "The Greatest Catch Ever." Spike Lee teamed up with Espn to revisit the moment on film, in a short (just over 30-minute film) titled "The Greatest Catch Ever"...

"Well, I can just watch the commercials." For decades, that's been the Super Bowl Sunday motto of many who care more about pop culture than they do football. And why not? Here, then, are nine Super Bowl commercials that feature celebs doing some very odd, awkward or otherwise unusual things. They just might make you proclaim, "Wow, what a weird idea for a commercial!" - and then wonder how much these stars got paid. 1. Michael J. Fox...

CBS announced last week that freshman series Elementary, which airs Thursday nights, will air an episode after Super Bowl Xlvii on Feb. 3.
The procedural, starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu as the mystery-solving duo of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, averages 14.2 million viewers per episode and has already received a full season.
This coveted post-Super Bowl spot usually gives shows a major boost in the ratings, as the game attracts record-size audiences and viewers are likely to stick around to see what follows. It’s certain CBS hopes for the same with Elementary.
This year, NBC’s Super Bowl Xlvi — the New York Giants vs. the New England Patriots — surpassed the ratings of last year’s game (Fox’s Super Bowl Xlv, 111 million viewers), becoming the most-watched telecast in U.S. TV history by scoring 111.3 million viewers. The telecast also garnered a rating of 40.5 in the key 18-49 demo.

New England Patriots' fans are buzzing over the latest gridiron trade, as wide receiver Brandon Lloyd is headed to Gilette stadium in Massachusetts. The addition of the talented 30 year-old will give the championship team added edge to complement their formidable offense. The Pats have an exceptional recent history for NFL championships. Between 2001 and 2005, they became the second team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in four years (Super Bowl Xxxvi, Xxxviii, and Xxxix), and the eighth (and most recent) to win consecutive Super Bowls. The New York Giants beat the Pats in Super Bowl Xlii, after winning the first 18 games of their 2007 season. They were defeated again by the New York...

It's deja vu all over again as a New York Giants wide receiver makes an outstanding catch to help win them the Super Bowl. It happened in 2008 with David Tyree. And now, in 2012, it's happened again with Mario Manningham. But which catch was best?
Let's review. With 3:45 left in Super Bowl Xlvi and the Giants down by two, New York needed to make their way out of the shadow of their own end zone. So Eli Manning uncorks a 38-yard pass to Manningham, who makes a nearly impossible catch. The Giants then proceed to drive down the field and score the game-winning touchdown against the New England Patriots.
Of course then there's the fabled "helmet catch" of Tyree in Super Bowl Xlii. The Giants were trailing the Patriots by four with 1:15 left to play. Manning escapes a near sack and throws the ball 32 yards to the outstretched arms of Tyree.

Multiplatinum producer Timbaland, who's looking for the New England Patriots to defeat the New York Giants on Sunday night (February 5), decided to make a song about it.
"I just did it almost to be playing around, just to do it," Timbaland told MTV News on Friday from his home in Miami. "It turned out bigger than what I thought."

On Sunday, February 5th, the New England Patriots will try to avenge their Super Bowl Xlii loss to the New York Giants as the two teams square off again, this time in Indianapolis, in Super Bowl Lxvi. Some of you can't wait for the game. Others couldn't give a crap less. But there are definitely cool things everyone can enjoy about the Super Bowl: the parties and the commercials, especially this one featuring some unlucky vamps.
I don't care how much you hate sports; there's no reason not to attend a Super Bowl party. Great food covered in grease and sauce and cheese, beer flowing like a river, and probably a couple of gambling pools which might be able to turn your measly $10 into a couple hundred. Hell, if you hate the game that much, just hang out in the kitchen until the commercials come on.

The Super Bowl teams have been decided. Early Sunday (Jan. 22), the New England Patriots defeated the Baltimore Ravens in a rather heartbreaking fashion for Ravens' fans (or just Pats haters, who number plenty too). Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff missed a 32-yard field goal at the end of the game that would have tied the score. But instead Tom Brady and his Patriots are headed to Super Bowl Xlvi.
In the late game, the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers took the game to overtime tied at a mere 17 points apiece. Halfway through the overtime period, the Giants won on a 31-yard field goal.
So the Harbaugh Super Bowl is not to be - brothers John Harbaugh (head coach of the Ravens) and Jim Harbaugh (head coach of the 49ers) will not be facing off in the championship.
Instead, it is a rematch of Super Bowl Xlii in 2008, where the...

Jordin Sparks apparently isn't shy about showing off her bikini body. The young singer, who found fame by winning season 6 of "American Idol", snapped a picture of herself wearing only a pair of mismatched bikini, and has shared it with her fans via Twitter.
The photo was taken by the 21-year-old herself using what seems to be a mobile phone. It captures her standing in front of a huge bathroom mirror. This weekend is going to be a massive one for the worlds of music, television and sports. The Super Bowl is finally here, and the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers will be squaring off against one another to determine who is this year's NFL champion is only about the fifth-most important thing happening over the next few days. In addition to the game, there will be the headline-grabbing advertisements (including a number of movie trailer premieres and appearances by both Justin Bieber and Eminem), the new episode of "Glee" that will follow the big game (which features the much-talked-about "Thriller" sequence), the national anthem care of Christina Aguilera (which bodes well for the Steelers) and the fact that this could be the most-watched American television broadcast in history (besting last year's Super Bowl, which drew 106.5 million viewers).

Three years ago, during Super Bowl Xlii, eTrade entrusted its public image to a talking (and puking) baby. The next day, eTrade registered more new accounts than it had on any other day in the company's history. Dozens of promotions and a couple NFL championships later, the "eTrade baby," as he's been christened, is one of the most recognizable ads on television, and one of the most famous spots in Super Bowl history--last year's ad helped eTrade reach an estimated 768 million people.
But it was never a sure thing that the eTrade baby would mature into such a phenomenon. In fact, when the idea was first born, the agency behind the spot, Grey New York, wasn't sure whether it had struck gold, or produced an ad no more appealing than one of its animated baby's dirty diapers.

Electronic Arts has used the yearly update to its beloved "Madden NFL" franchise to predict Super Bowl winners for over half a decade. Perfection is more or less impossible, even in the world of sports. Except for a select few instances, all streaks come to an end and all records fall. But in professional football, one accomplishment has stood the test of time, as the Miami Dolphins are the only team in the history of the NFL to have a completely undefeated season. On this day in 1973, the Dolphins beat the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII to win the championship and finish their season with 17 wins and no losses.
The Dolphins' unbeaten run was lead by coach Don Shula, quarterbacks Bob Griese and Earl Morrall (Griese hurt his ankle a third of the way through the season) and running backs Larry Csonka and Jim Kiick. None of those headliners were truly spectacular players, but their workmanlike approach under Shula's offensive system made them a formidable force on the field. They truly dominated on defense,...

Paramount's reported decision to buy ad spots during Super Bowl Xliv for "The Last Airbender" and "Shutter Island" instead of reserving a slot for a new "Iron Man 2" trailer might go down as the biggest Big Game disappointment for comic book fans since "Blade II" got a better trailer than "Spider-Man" during Super Bowl Xxxvi in 2002. However, such letdowns shouldn't detract from the growing legacy of comic book-related ads that have enriched the proud history of Super Bowl commercials.
Here are five of the most memorable Super Bowl commercials starring comics-born characters, presented with the hope that they'll set the bar for either a killer "Thor" trailer in 2011 — or at the very least, a Deadpool ad for Visa.
